Phil Spencer: "You are going to see more of our games on more platforms"

Look at his veins pop due to his anger. This pic should've been in the OP!

I do. And i don't even own a PS5. I want Xbox to fold because I want to see someone else take a shot. Xbox hanging on, is stopping the natural churn and new challengers.

Like who? They just need to reorganize. So many companies have tried and haven't even got out of the gate!!

GamePass only works because it includes 3rd party games.

But that only worked because Xbox needed to pay 3rd party publishers a large amount of money to cover the (potential) loss in revenue from sales.
And that only worked because Xbox has a much smaller marketshare.

Bringing the concept to Playstation will require insane amounts of money that A) would make Xbox bleed crazy amounts of money and B) will skyrocket the prize of GP.

The only way it could work, is if MS would offer 1st party only, but then GP wouldn't be nearly as interesting.

I don't think it would even work then. For Sony, that is, especially now that more and more games are being ported to PS5. A percentage of a sub fee isn't going to be comparable to a percentage of every copy sold of a game and the potential conflict with their own sub service. Game Pass on PS and Nintendo will, imo, never happen. As well, the inherent problems with the Game Pass model have been gone over ad nauseam. There's no reason for other platform holders to introduce that risk to their healthy ecosystems.

What potential?
Cloud is just having the hardware in a different room from the user. The hardware would always be better off in the same room as the user rather than be a city block away. It doesn't matter how advanced the hardware, it doesn't change anything because that same hardware would also improve for the home computer.

The only "potential" for Cloud is to take away the customer's ability to own their own hardware and have the freedom to install what they want. As in, the only beneficiary is the one who owns the hardware. There is no potential to renting rather than owning, had been that way for centuries.

What it boils down to, is that companies want what is the most profitable, even if that isn't what the customer wants. And when they try to push that thing the customer leaves.

I would like the future to be everyone on Earth paying me a dollar a day to do nothing. That would certainly be good for me. The fact that it is bad for the rest of you is not my problem because "it is the future".
Delusional take, the ending comparison particularly embarrassing.

The fear that new tech is inherently evil or anti-consumer is just bizarre. It's like a vocal minority stuck in an echo chamber, obsessed with paranoia over not 'owning' anything. PC gaming ditched physical media years ago, and hardly anyone would argue it's not better for it. But no, some can't see the forest for the trees. I can just picture it: 50 years from now, some old gamer clutches his vast physical game library—right before someone chucks it all in the trash. You can look at collecting as nostalgia or whatever but ultimately it's gong away whether you like it or not, and most people are better off for it.

Imagine talking about 1st party going 3rd party for the next 10 years, that makes zero sense for the players.

Makes sense. They have an incredible portfolio of IPs now and keeping them locked to their ecosystem makes no sense. Specially with how expensive games are to create nowadays.

I do think that they should be more open about this. I know its all "fluid" so will move but I think initially laying it out like.

" You can expect these games to release on other platforms 12 months after launch" - or something to that effect. Then at least people are on the same page for the short term. Saying that, no one would believe them.

I agree. I was thinking tonight about how Microsoft just needs to quit playing games and be straight up. Say what games will be coming, what won't, what kind of exclusivity there will be if they're going that route, etc. At least if they did that then everyone could move on with their lives.

Hardly. Game publishers will be just as willing to sell their games to people playing local hardware even if/when gains popularity with the majority of consumers. Music labels still make vinyl records to this day. If there is enough demand, businesses will make money off of it.
I don't disagree with you at all, but does this mean in the future we'll have... console hipsters?

I want Gamepass to fold as it's a true cancer that will result in more studios closing. The sooner that pile of shit ends, the better
Yes I hate it and the shit playstation subscription there rubbish and are just gonna end up making games have more micro transactions for shit that was free

I truly think this half-ass statements do more damage than finally making everything multiplatform, this guy is playing both sides and you cant do that in this situation

Prettt much all games will come at some point.

That's all we need to know, really.

Phil really lost it with this comment. Like we don't know what you've been doing all these years with exclusivity and buying out publishers wholesale.

Let's not forgot who was doing the cod deals prior to playstation.

Phil acts like it's his choice to offer parity with cod, when in reality it was them getting spooked by regulator push back that made them offer that parity and 10 year deal.

If I were Sony, I'd ask for a 45% cut on Xbox game sales and never allow GP on Playstation. Lol

I didn't see Sony shelling out $80 *billion* for entire PUBLISHERS with subsequent court-revealed information about how you planned to make all of it exclusive and "spend someone out of business" until regulators pretty clearly told you CoD wasn't gonna happen.

It was really uncomfortable watching him. It was like he was simultaneously in awe, whilst wanting to go psycho too. Unhinged. I could imagine Ryan suddenly getting up and trying to punch shit out of Phil and then breaking down in tears. Very, very weird/cringe viewing.

They want people to still buy an xbox which is why they're leaving it uncertain. same with playstation 5 putting games on pc.

Some of the Bethesda games like Doom of course will show up on PS5 (for $70) and other smaller games. I think any game with a GAAS or MP element will show up (like Sea of Thieves and Grounded). But I doubt NEW 1st party MGS games will show up day one (if at all). Meaning, no new Halo (Master Chief may go over), no Gears, No Horizon, No Starfield, No Fable and no Perfect Dark. PS5 can have Redfall though.

I wouldnt bet on that... the new Gears dont have any platform attach to it, I think it will be day one in 2026

Xbox know about slimy deals don't they.

Paying Epic for Gears 1-3, paying for Mass Effect, Bioshock, GTA IV DLC, COD DLC, Tomb Raider Underworld DLC.

Randomly making Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusive to go against Uncharted 4, cited by themselves, that's slime ball tactics. Even more slimy trying to buy the gamer with cheap game pass paying for sales upfront and giving them away and buying up major third party publishers canceling Starfield on PS5, the height of slime buying the industry they don't know how to compete in. Had it all worked they'd be lauding it and laughing at being no 1 trying to pull the rug form other platforms with money. Now it's sob, deathloop sob sob.

What do you think when Phil Spencer says "more games to more platforms?". Outside of Doom, what other titles are porting over? Elder Scrolls 6 would certainly make sense, right, but that is not coming out until 2027 at the earliest. Games like Starfield and Indy will be on PS5 by next year, book it

He legit looks like he is about to fucking cry mid interview

Geez!! Yes! Xbox only.......for a while at least. There likely won't be any Xbox games released day and date with PS5. The only one which will, is COD. Maybe 6 months later Doom will go to other platforms....for $70

Who needs logic when you've got audacity, right? So here's to your new predictions—may they age like fine wine, fermenting in the cellar of delusion! 🥂📈

Yeah but no ones buying xboxs if there is the narrative that all the games are coming to playstation. At least stating that it may take a year or so would let people make their own decision on if they can wait that time.

Man talk about irony - wake the fuck up already.
Your entire argument is that people shouldn't own anything because somehow giving that up to the oversight and arbitration of corporations (who time and again have shown they could care less & fucked over consumers) is "beneficial".

Phil has a complete lack of self awareness.

I think Phil thinks everyone else lacks awareness. It's why he continually makes statements that are easily disproven and hypocritical. He's like a slimy politician that, fortunately, many people can see through nowadays.

Can't not wait for the new twitter/discord/ambassador/influencer marketing orders this week.
Atm the orders from the "ambassadors", the shill journalists and people who believe them is.

Exclusives = bad.

Consoles and Platforms cant survive without going multiplatform.

Playstation is bad because they dont release games on Xbox.

Playstation isnt making profit on its games (no evidence) and needs the PC and XBox market to keep alive lol

There's also the introduction of more expensive consoles later in the year, with the two mainstream ones being digital. And if the expensive 2tb one is a limited run and they sunset the current ones. Then its forced digital only. Now where as that might be fine for enthusiasts and they can swallow the uptick on cost. If I'm Mrs Miggins shopping for Christmas pressies and I walk into a store. Where not only are there no longer any physical Xbox games to buy, but my only console choices are digital or an insanely priced 2tb disc special edition version. I cant see that strategy putting them into a good place for some parent choosing a console.

Is that how your paranoid brain interpreted it?

He gets told constantly by the Xbox community how great he is. It's only the minority of fellow fans who don't rate him or his reign in charge.

The media are up his arse too.

I don't think I've seen a gaming executive put on such a pedestal for delivering so little whilst devaluing a console people were supposed to be fans of and be applauded for it in the process.

The whole thing stinks to be honest.

Sassy Red Wine GIF by Married At First Sight

This is pretty wild considering they never even mentioned the word exclusive once at the showcase or after and he is here not even putting a number on how many games are coming, just saying more games are coming to other platforms.

Makes sense why none of their titles said "exclusive" at the event when they've been so proud (rightly so, regardless of game quality) to shout it from the rooftops in years past.
At some point we, not just as gamers, but human beings need to let go of comparison and competition and embrace cooperation and unity.

When everyone plays we all win

Every single Xbox game will be multiplatform. Halo, Forza, Starfield, Fable, Perfect Dark, Indiana Jones, Avowed, and everything else.

You all need to just accept it. If they have a full PlayStation porting and development operation, and they do, they are not going to halt it on the games with the most market potential. If the games can ably run on Switch 2 they will put it on there too if the success of that platform is anything like the Switch. Remember they are first and foremost a software company and are in a mode where they want to sell software. They don't do that by leaving their most popular games off the most popular console.

It would be like leaving MS Office off iOS, which oh yea they actually did once then realized how retarded it was.

Reddit made a list.

Both Sony and MS have shown 3rd party games at their events over the years. Nothing new. Add in Phil confirming they're bringing their over games to more platforms.

I know this a departure from the console war mentality we've seen since Nintendo vs Sega but it seems here to stay, at least for Sony and MS.

I agree. More ports equals more growth for MS. Want them in gaming for the long haul.

What's new is the move to first party games being released on other platforms. That's what people invested in one console brand or the other are upset about.
