I do, just not a big fan of nugget nectar.

I'll actually grant you that. It's way too hoppy generally speaking, I just excuse it because I generally avoid hoppy beers entirely, but make a few exceptions and it's one of them, mostly because it's hard to come across so the window for having it is relatively small.

Fellow Francisville-ians, that giant empty lot across the street from the park has signs on it saying no parking as of February 1st. Developer must finally be doing something with it (it wasn't a city sign), anyone know what's up?

nope but im in your neighborhood and that giant white building on fairmount ave and 17th turns into what looks like an AWESOME new restaurant/bar on the 3rd.

SEE YOU THERE.

To your point, i hope they do something with it. even though it was like the only place to park after they forgot to plow the rest of our hood

Ok I posted about this before, but I really need to make Valentine's day reservations. What's a classic and upsacleish (looking to spend about $50 before tip for our meals) Italian restaurant in the city that would be good for V day?

My vote goes to the spinach gnocchi. Laurel is next on the list; super pumped.

I never did bother with Laurel. I should go there eventually. FWIW I thought Volver was excellent, nearly as good as Vetri.

I got my V-day reservations at the Le Cheri. We're doing the orchestra beforehand.

Anyway, is that $50 per person before tip? Or $50 for both of you before tip? I'd recommend Osteria or Little Nonna's for Italian. Maybe Amis.

This the second time this place came up! $50 before or after tip is fine, just not more than.

EDIT: Fuck, Nonnas has no open reservations.

Anybody ever wait in line for Pizzeria Beddia?

"Best Pizza in America" sounds like high praise on the one hand, on the other hand it also sounds like the lines are still very long and it is also still only Pizza after all.

Yeah, you're actually a bit late in the game for V-day reservations! Especially since it's on a weekend.

Never bothered. I'd like to some time but I can't be bothered to screw around with purposefully ridiculous hipstery behavior like Beddia insists on doing.

I had reservations at Jamonera but canceled them because we weren't going to be around, now we are and I'm screwed.

EDIT: An Italian restaurant called August in South Philly had a 5:15pm opening, looks like they have good Valentine's day special. I know nothing about this place but it seems like it has good reviews.

Go to Aldine. Not Italian, but really an underappreciated gem of a restaurant, and it's open pretty much all day on V-day. It's a New/Contemporary American cuisine restaurant by George Sabatino. I've been there four times and I've been satisfied every time. Frankly I think it's one of the best restaurants in the city and I can't figure out why it's never more full than it is given the quality. At the same time I love it because I can always get a table when I am in a bind.

If you need more convincing check out their instagram.

This place looks great. They are offering a Valentine's Day special that is $75 a person. I should be able to order other stuff off the menu though, right? Just checking before I make the reservation, I'm not looking to drop $150 on dinner.

Honestly I don't know. You'd have to give them a call.

Hi, guys. I am applying for a position at Philly and would like to know what I could expect for monthly rent for 700 sq ft. (or larger, if you know that instead). What's one thing you like the most about your city?

Thanks!

It's really going to vary depending on location, but in a nicer neighborhood I would bank on the $1200-1500 range. Housing here is cheaper Than a lot of places.

Lot's to love about the city. Great food, culture, and lots of fun events.

Kathryn Knott is being sentenced today. Very interested to see if she's given jail time or not.

And to further respond to the above, philly is awesome and you should move here if you get the chance (but I'm biased because I work for the city haha).

Trocadero is playing Blade Runner tonight. I don't think it's the special one that is airing now, just a regular version, but I might check it out. Never been there before.

For me it's the relatively cheap living costs and the huge variety of musical acts that come through Philadelphia.

I'm actually currently helping a buddy find a similarly sized studio, and I've been finding 800-1000 in Center City.

The city's super walkable. Probably my favorite thing.

There are still studios for <1000 in center city? I thought those days were over! Kinda glad they're not though. I feel like housing in this city, while still cheap, costs so much more than it was even just 2-3 years ago.

All depends on where you want to live and want to pay. 1200 is a solid number if you want to live basically anywhere in the city. You can live downtown/olde city for that kinda money with little trouble I would think. I live in West Philly and I dont pay anything close to that...however people keep getting shot where I live so there's that too.

And the best thing about living here is that you're about an hour and a half from everything. The beach, mountains, skiing, casinos, amusement parks, sports, theaters.

Tons actually. I was surprised there were so many when I searched. Obviously, utilities will take you to a little north of 1000, but that's still pretty good for the Rittenhouse Square area.

its good, real crowded cause it just opened but really good

Yeah, I actually basically closed the place on Friday night. I am pretty sure all the people left at the bar were staff and they were giving us the evil eye.

I was thinking 1BRs with my price range, but I can imagine studios would be cheaper.

Believe it or not I think rents fell last quarter, for the first time in a while. Not sure if it was all rents or just high end rents, though. I think mainly it's a function of the amount of new units coming on to the market. Several large buildings opened in University City, and I think at least two large buildings opened last year in Center City. This fall and early next year we're going to see a shitton more. Hopefully it keeps rents low and keeps people moving into the city.
