The rumors we've heard so far of the 2017 design sound closer to the iPhone 4/4S design than to the 5/5S design.

Glass back, possibly no bezels (iOS 10's bubble-focused design is basically introducing a small bit of bezel space into the OS itself, negating whatever hand-grip based design justifications exist for having hardware bezels), possibly zero moving parts (unless you count the taptic engine and speakers) or holes. Also, AMOLED would mean getting to do a lot of nice design stuff with blacks in the OS that would look gorgeous on a fully black piece of hardware.

The 6/6S feel like a modernized refresh of the original iPhone design, so perhaps Apple intends to sort of cycle between that, a version of the iPhone 4/4S design, and something like the 5/5S design well into the future.

i think the 4 phones look pretty bad now since the screen is still 4:3 and it has those MASSIVE chunks of empty space above and below the screen

The screen is 3:2 not 4:3 and the proportions of the 4/4S are beyond perfection.
It is the iPhone design that will be remembered when the only thought of a smartphone will be archaic.

people really shouldn't be listening to super loud music in cars, either, though. You need to be able to hear the environment around you for safety reasons

The one thing I do miss most about Android are the front facing speakers on the Nexus phones. Apple really needs to follow suit. I have trying to use an iPhone to watch something only to have my hand cover up the one speaker.
