That would still only be 587.52MB. Windows 7 is much larger than that.

The unformatted capacity of a "1.44 MB 2HD" or similarly-named floppy is 80 (tracks) * 18 (sectors / track) * 512 (B / sector) * 2 (double sided), which equates to 1,474,560 bytes.

Using FAT, you've got your boot sector (1 sector), FAT (9 sectors), FAT copy (another 9 sectors) and your root directory which is 224 entries of 32 Bytes each, or 7168 Bytes, or 14 more sectors.

Formatting thus takes up a total of 33 sectors out of the total, which is 16896 bytes.

A formatted floppy thus yields 1,457,664 bytes, and 408 floppy diskettes gives you a total formatted capacity of 594,726,912 bytes, or a little over 567 MB.

I hope SJRB doesn't mind me borrowing this gif.

OK couldn't resist. So given the install size is around 2.5GB give or take a closer picture would be

Really goes to show you how the times have changed.

Lol, What's $3398 with inflation figured in? That's a lot of money back then. Crazy. You could build a beast of an entire system these days for half that.

I payed about 600 Dollars for my first 60 MB Hard Disk for my Amiga.
