I actually love The Division Bell, it's grown with me heavily over time and cemented my preference for Gilmour-era Floyd over Waters' more influential tenure with The Wall and The Final Cut (though I still group Dark Side, Wish You Were Here and Animals into the best period of the band), so I was quite excited for this release.
I think people who expect more of a "regular" kind of album will be disappointed but for the people who are attuned to the final Pink Floyd escapades they'll probably find a deal to like here. It's less of a swan song and more of an extended goodbye from the band. It's far from the band's best but it feels like distant echoes from a time when Pink Floyd were still active and inspiring the world. I don't know how to best describe it, I suppose it would be... nostalgic?
It feels so surreal listening to new Floyd material in this day and age, and it's completely genuine. I realize this is the end of the line as far as the band goes but it's a really lovely sendoff. Richard Wright really deserved more after the fallout, and this tribute is a lovely way to finally pay some respects. Many of the songs here really emit his spirit. Side 3 and 4 are absolutely beautiful and I love the little call backs to The Division Bell.
