Nicki Minaj and Drake in the top 20.

How

Granted I don't really have any opinions of both of them either way, but neither of those two songs are special.

I feel like Rolling in the Deep should be in that top 20.

MBDTF will probably be number one album, by lack of any real contender I think.
Maybe RAM or Channel Orange?

19. Beach House - “Zebra”
18. Kanye West - “Monster” [ft. Justin Vernon, Rick Ross, Jay-Z, and Nicki Minaj]
17. LCD Soundsystem - “Dance Yrself Clean”
16. Todd Terje - “Inspector Norse”
15. Nicki Minaj - “Super Bass” [ft. Ester Dean]
14. Sky Ferreira - “Everything Is Embarrassing”
13. Usher - “Climax”
12. Beyoncé - “Countdown”
11. Tame Impala - “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards”
10. Drake - “Hold On We're Going Home”
09. Deerhunter - “Helicopter”
08. Frank Ocean - “Pyramids”
07. Azealia Banks - “212” [ft. Lazy Jay]
06. Robyn - “Dancing on My Own”
05. Kendrick Lamar - “Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe”

I don't even listen to a whole lot of music and I know that is an awful list. If I took that as fact then I would have to conclude that music is dead as an art form.

You know, I can figure some of those artists earning spots up there, just the song choices are completely wtf

Going back they were:

2010. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
2011. Bon Iver - Bon Iver
2012. Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city
2013. Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City

Logically speaking, these albums should be in the top 5, with the 5th album being whatever will be considered the best album of 2014.

Plenty of good tracks, but some of the rankings are way off for me. Though I'm not quite sure how you can even rank a thing like this to be honest.

I could maybe understand ranking 20 songs, but 200 songs is ridiculous. There is no meaning when a song is ranked #130 over #150.
Yeah, basically this :lol

Like what about song 201 versus 198?

What about the list do you disagree with? What would you have picked instead?

Everything. Here's a few albums that are missing off the top of my head:

The Mark of Cain - Songs of the Third and Fifth
Charisma.com - I I Syndrome

20. Daft Punk - “Get Lucky” [ft. Pharrell]
19. Beach House - “Zebra”
18. Kanye West - “Monster” [ft. Justin Vernon, Rick Ross, Jay-Z, and Nicki Minaj]
17. LCD Soundsystem - “Dance Yrself Clean”
16. Todd Terje - “Inspector Norse”
15. Nicki Minaj - “Super Bass” [ft. Ester Dean]
14. Sky Ferreira - “Everything Is Embarrassing”
13. Usher - “Climax”
12. Beyoncé - “Countdown”
11. Tame Impala - “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards”
10. Drake - “Hold On We're Going Home”
09. Deerhunter - “Helicopter”
08. Frank Ocean - “Pyramids”
07. Azealia Banks - “212” [ft. Lazy Jay]
06. Robyn - “Dancing on My Own”
05. Kendrick Lamar - “Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe”
04. M83 - “Midnight City”
03. Kanye West - “Runaway” [ft. Pusha T]
02. Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - “Round and Round”
01. Grimes - “Oblivion”

I only recognise that Daft Punk song. Am I really that out of touch?

not… really? what if some years were better than others? like maybe that Vampire Weekend album would've been number 3 in 2010.

Where the fuck is Lil B - "Straps on Deck"?

Never heard of pitchfork, but looking at that list I assume they dislike guitars and have no appreciation for rock or metal? Yeah, fuck 'em.

Pitchfork has never been metal-focused (they even gave Lateralus 1.9/10).

Can't personally say the decade has been very good with metal though, except for Mladic by GY!BE and basically anything by Mastodon.

Sadly, metal is sort of fringe and odd nowadays. Bands like Black Keys and BRMC are more attractive nowadays.

2011 had one of the best Grails album ever (Deep Politics).

Then we had two fantastic Swans albums (The Seer; To be kind).

In 2012 we had a pretty great Godspeed You! Black Emperor album ('Alleluja! Don't bend! Ascend!)

Then 2 great Esmerine albums (La Lechuza; Dalmak) and a couple of fantastic ones from Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra (Kollaps Tradixionales; Fuck off get free we pour light on everything)

Lighting Dust had a great album (Fantasy), and Perturbator,(I am the night).

It'd be silly to try and list them all anyway, but they were some pretty fantastic 5 years for music, as far as I am concerned.

I think - as objectively as possible - Likke Li's Follow Rivers should be #1. Even though I personally like oblivion more and neither are my personal #1.

Or was that last decade?

lush is the one who tipped me off to Grimes, and I've been a fan since then, but I feel like Oblivion isn't even the best song on that album. It's the most popular and the grimes tag on tumblr is constantly filled with shitheads all reposting gifs from the video and all, but it's not the song I'd pick off there. But then, I don't always need my music to be making some statement or whatever, either.

I really don't get the Grimes pick at number 1, I mean I like the album, enough to buy it on vinyl even but no song on it ever stood out enough to be top 10 of any year, let alone number 1 of the last 5.
