Oh gosh, I didn't even check the album list. Psychic is a great album (but I'd put the EP above it :p) it definitely deserves to be higher up there. I have a feeling it's going to help lead some future acts down some crazy roads.

Hmm, prefer Jaar's solo stuff to be honest.

There are some good picks in there, but where are Julia Holter and Colin Stetson and Fuck Buttons and Chelsea Wolfe and Ben Frost and Lower Dens and Women and Mount Eerie and Laetitia Sadier and Crystal Stilts and The Flaming Lips and Julianna Barwick and Scott Walker and Melt-Banana and Liars and Braids and Have a Nice Life and Jenny Hval and The Books and Deerhoof and These New Puritans and Battles and and and

as someone who could die happily if Neighborhood 1 or Sprawl ii were playing: Reflektor is a bad album

me too (kinda hoping Darkside breaking up means a new nico lp will be on other people in 2015) but I'm at least glad they didn't forget Space is Only Noise entirely.

I love so many of these bands but like Pitchfork is already a mainstream publication and with this list they're explicitly trying to pick out influential/decade-encapsulating works. so while Fuck Buttons and Have a Nice Life have enormously passionate cult followings (deservedly so) it's not like too many people are wilding over Brainfreeze and Cropsey

I know, I was being (somewhat) tongue-in-cheek.

Finally Famous and Young Thug's mediocre ass 1017 Thug made the list. LOL. P4K trying hard to jump on some bandwagon there.

Only if you only read sites like Pitchfork.

Does anyone genuinely read p4k these days? Like being earnestly interested in their opinions in a non-ironic way?

I'm pretty sure people only read it to shit on it. It's the cool kid at school who went bald and got fat after graduation but still thinks he's got it.

Did I completely overlook them or are the National not on the albums list at all?

Teen Dream also seems way too high for me personally, always thought Bloom was much better in every way

I really think you should give those tracks a listen, most of those are legitimately good.
It's not that I don't think some of those songs are good, it's just the selection is so limited in scope. That's really not acceptable for a publication dedicated to a single art form.

just listened to the Grimes song and even though I'm no fan of her work, that's honestly a pretty good track... can't really say that about the rest of the list though

The top 20 is a pretty good list of music but holy shit the ordering after that. Seeing Miguel above To Be Kind made my heart hurt.

And The Reflektor shouldn't even't be in a top 100 best albums list at all. :)

it's a music blog that deals with mostly pop and alt music. you should look at NME, Spin and Rolling Stone and then see that P4K is typically more diverse than most music publications...

P4k has never liked The National.

Only thing that rubs my rhubarb the wrong way is the lack of DARKSIDE. A1 is a monster of a track. That entire EP is beastly.

It's one of the worst albums I've heard this decade. Vile music imo.

Their album list isn't actually that bad. I'm surprised people haven't realized how mediocre Channel Orange is yet, but whatever.

Teen Dream is a great fucking album and I've always enjoyed it more than Bloom. You guys need to give it a few more listens.

I still don't understand Pitchfork's fascination with Ariel Pink.

Teen Dream over Bloom? Aside from that last track going on way too damn long, Bloom blows away Beach House's other work.

Lack of The National is also strange, since High Violent and Trouble are two of their strongest records.

On that note, sucks that they're disbanding. :(

"For now." I'd assume we'll see something new from them in a few years.

P4k has never liked The National.

Pitchfork always gives The National good reviews, but never recognition at the end of the year. Also, you're crazy. Psychic is fucking fantastic.

Teen Dream is amazing. I had the album for years before it finally clicked with me. Ariel Pink is pretty great too.

How big is actually Todd Terje? People talk about him like he is some household name...

He's not really, but his album came out this year and it's really damn good.

Never heard of pitchfork, but looking at that list I assume they dislike guitars and have no appreciation for rock or metal? Yeah, fuck 'em.

Basically. There's only a few metal bands they'll lavish praise on, Deafheaven among them. They have more-or-less dedicated metal reviewer who puts out his Best Metal of the Year lists, but by in large Pitchfork ignores harder rock forms and misses out on some great records.

These two albums are pretty weird. Both pretty boring and samey. Yet Teen Dream is so good, and Bloom is so mediocre. Dunno how it's possible. :S

Also, you're crazy. Psychic is fucking fantastic.

I hate to use cliche criticisms, but the thing is that they all apply so perfectly. Scarf music, beret music, wallpaper music, etc. Entirely inconsequential sounds that express nothing to me aside from an explicit desire to be trendy, safe and quaint. Even Four Tet is above it. Honestly Jaar has been a disastrous disappointment altogether, he initially showed a lot of promise.

Hmm, prefer Jaar's solo stuff to be honest.

Space is only noise is a magical album for sure, but the funk Jaar gets to play around in with DARKSIDE tickles my ears in the right way. I would gladly hold up any of his releases (including Daftside) in the top ten of the last 4 years. Just having him making music is a treat.

On that note, sucks that they're disbanding. :(

Yea that's a bummer, but it's only for the time being. They'll be back.

Other than the Yeezus releases, I'd go with Mars Volta's Noctoruniquet and Joanna Newsom's Have One On Me personally, albums I know, but tracks are too difficult.

Halcyon Digest at #3? Wow.

Halcyon Digest is my favorite album of this decade so far. Would probably put Cosmogramma 2nd, Replica by OPN in 3rd and Sunbather 4th.

Vampire Weekend, Beach House & Real Estate are overrated as fuck and are way to damn high.

They Want My Soul should be on there as well. One of Spoon's better albums, which puts it in good company.

Teen Dream is a great fucking album and I've always enjoyed it more than Bloom. You guys need to give it a few more listens.
I've given both of them quite a bit of time. Norway and Ten Mile Stereo are unmatched but Bloom functions so well as a refinement of their sound.

To Be Kind wouldn't even make my list at all

Also did I miss it or is Shields not on the album list? Got shit by Future and Chief Keef but not the best Grizzly Bear album?

Shields is a huge oversight, the (ironic) love for cheif keef baffles me

It's amazing how much I can agree and disagree with you all at once. I like all the albums you posted about.

shields is a bad pasty album and the love for chief keef (or others like young thug) is not ironic. they're genuinely helping to push music in new directions. Citgo is a freakishly beautiful song and young thug sounds otherworldly

agreed on bloom>td though

I have no problem with liking Chief Keef, after a few drinks I start feeling I Don't Like hard. But I'm not gonna act like it's game changing shit

Yeah, Teen Dream is better than Bloom honestly. Shocked they put FKA Twigs LP1 on after being out for a few weeks. Lol.

Bon Iver #27

Called it.

Also, I still don't like Kanye. I've tried, multiple times, to like his albums. They're just not my style.

Also, also, listening to Ariel Pink's "Round and Round" at the moment. Why was this #2 on the songs list? I truly don't understand Pitchfork.

Oh well, just going to keep liking what I like, regardless of what lists it's on.

Good decision. I usually use these lists as indicators for albums I never listened to, or only listened to once or twice. If it's high up, I'll give those albums another couple of shots to see if maybe I'd missed it.

Listing music out like this is stupid. People will never agree. You can make a hundred lists of the hundred best songs of all time and I highly doubt anyone on the internet will even marginally agree with you. I don't really care to listen to The Beatles. People love them. If I made a list of my top 10 songs from the past decade it would probably just be the first ten tracks of Tune Yards new album but that's just me.

These lists are fun because an album you like shows up and you get to read another praising writeup on it. Sometimes from a perspective you didn't really think about (like Halcyon Digest and homosexuality.) Who cares if Money Store was only #69 or whatever.

No The Seer though, I guess Gira will have to eat their souls now.
