Place your bets: Batman v Superman vs Civil War vs Rogue One

Still can't believe BvS is going to falter off worse than Man of Steel. That's horrendous.

Civil War is going to do great but Rogue One is number one with a bullet if it lands internationally the way they want

The critical reception and word-of-mouth being as bad as it was came as kind of a huge shock. I think the worst people realistically expected was that it would be kinda convoluted and a bit too dour for its own good. The reaction it got was drastically harsher, and that no doubt hurt its legs.

BvS should have easily made $1bn even with bad reception, later Transformers movies, Pirates of the Carribean 4, these were movies that had terrible reviews and still managed to sail past $1bn years ago.

BvS is a colossal disaster, it might not even end up in Top 5 of this year, neither domestic nor ww.

transformers movies are, believe it or not, huge crowd-pleasers.

this movie is so much more morose than the films you mention.

Transformers, sure. At Stranger Tides was so damn boring though, I can't believe how much it grossed on brand name alone. $800 mil overseas, 5 years ago. Madness.

BvS is gonna lose domestically to Deadpool. Well deservedly of course, but Deadpool.

Civil War is gonna win at the box office, followed by Rogue One. We know that BvS is not gonna make much more than it already has.

Civil War has obviously been better received by the people that watched it than BvS. Rogue One is up in the air.

If they do a theatrical release of the 3 hour ultimate cut, I think it has a shot of cracking $1 billion.

Highly unlikely to the point of near impossibility. Avatar's director's cut re-release only brought in $11 million, I believe. The audience has spoken, and I doubt an even longer version of BvS would bring in another $150 million.

Hell, I doubt very many theaters would be willing to devote screens to it given that the movie season is about to really kick into high gear.

It's just amazing to read the posts in this thread.

Everyone was assuming BvS would break a billion easy, and some thought it would be the best grossing of the year.

This is basically a repeat of 2012, in which everybody predicted The Dark Knight Rises would outperform The Avengers.

Theatres will not commit screens to such a poorly reviewed / received film. Not happening.

Plus people would hate being told "no..no... no you saw the half done version, come see the full thing at full price"

That would be a huge blow to the brand

Except The Dark Knight Rises was a sequel to a well-received movie, whereas The Avengers was a first-time attempt to bring multiple heroes together on the silver screen.

Batman v Superman did have the best review thread since The Dark Knight though.

You can reopen it..you can do it!

Just release scenes on YouTube over time untill the general consensus is generally positive.

Brilliant!

Lol this thread

DC kids and civil war doubters everywhere

I wonder if they still think it won't outgross iron man 3 now...

The more outlandish prediction should have been that BvS would not make a billion regardless of quality. They really fucked up when a film with Batman, Superman AND Wonder Woman doesn't make a billion standing on its head.

Snyder doubling down on the negative aspects of MoS, bad reviews, toxic word of mouth and the film failing to grab the Chinese Box Office sure made it an uphill battle for them to break that billie.

I can't believe people were doubting Civil War though. It has Cap, Tony Stark and fucking Spider-man. RDJ alone would probably kick it over a billion but Spider-man is going to ensure that it crushes.

No idea about Rogue One, but Batman v Superman will expose the MCU for the rinky-dink operation it is.

A portion of GAF will be flustered by this, but ultimately give in after Suicide Squad release, which will end up the most liked here.
Civil War is like Mitt Romney. Fans didn't even want this adaptation. They're just rolling with it because it got nominated.
Will you continue to live in a world of delusion if/when Civil War becomes yet another critical and commercial darling for the MCU?

lolololololol. Short answer, yes Guek.

"DC kids" hmm I take it you're a "Marvel boy?"

The general consensus about it grossing is that it won't hit $1Billion so why would you even say "I wonder if they think it won't outgross Ironman"? Makes no sense.

The correct term is Marvelite IIRC.

Even before we knew that BvS was a pile of shit, what's up with the multiple posts in this thread predicting that it would have a stronger performance overseas that Civil War? DC brand has always been poor outside of US/UK. No DC film has come remotely close to Avengers/AoU/Iron Man 3 numbers overseas and TDKR was the only one to ever break $500mil.

Its freaking Batman , Superman and Wonder Woman . They are well known world wide, no one predicts that this movie will flop so much that even the Trinity can't push people into seeing the movie. The other heroes of JL can't even measure to any of the BIG 3 , they are at most Cap or Thor level before they got famous (And they don't have any good individual movies before Jl to build up some new fan base.) DC blow their chance and i think they know it.

Right, all of that is relevant in America. But there was never any reason to predict huge overseas numbers for it, at least not in comparison to the Marvel/Avengers brand. Multiple people in this thread predicted that Civil War would be bigger domestically, but BvS would be bigger worldwide, which is backwards.

Overseas markets don't give a fuck about Superman, or Man of Steel wouldn't have gotten outgrossed by Thor 2.

Nope , the Trinity is still well known world wide. A lot of people don;t know marvel from DC but they recognize the Trinity .
Yes recently Marvel have taken over the mind share of people but its still the freaking Trinity, on one everywhere expected them to do so badly.

Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office?

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim?

If they were all released on the same day, which would you go see first?

Which film will be the best received by GAF?

Captain America: Civil War to all questions.

Batman v Superman will be divisive and the most discussed on GAF.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story could ride the wave to the highest box office, but I'd be surprised if it was great.

Ayyy...
