Just a few days before the release of the new generation of Nintendo consoles.

I've noticed Nintendo's deceptive plan, which I think will lead many people to buy the wrong console.

Just look at how confusing it could be.

Many will buy and their only clue is the Mario Kart game, but children or adults can be confused by how similar the offerings are.

Do you think this is a secretly orchestrated scam by Nintendo to sell even more Switch consoles?

Is the Switch 1 Mario Kart bundle widely available right now? I thought it was more of a seasonal offer that Nintendo rolled out during the holidays.

Sure the "2" in the name is pretty clear. Then again, the packaging looks almost the same to most people, and it certaintly doesn't help that the console itself is also very similar to the original one.

Dude, why are you paying $15,000 dollars for a Switch?? 😲

"Switch 2" is obvious and self-explanatory, there will be no confusion.

If people weren't confused by PS1/PS2 to PS4/PS5, they won't have trouble figuring this out either.

A lot less than with the Wii U that's for sure, but putting the 2 above the Switch lettering instead of directly next to it is probably not the best decision.

It says 2 on the box like people have said.. if that confuses you I don't think you should be free to roam society unattended.

No, and WTF?

Even when entertaining the OP's scenario... Someone tries to buy a Switch 1 but buys a Switch 2. Buyer thinks "Well that more expensive than I thought."

Then they bring it home. The Switch 2 does everything a Switch 1 does and more. It's the same but better.

This is like a new iPhone model in a way. Are people for example being burned by picking up a PS5 Pro instead of a regular PS5?

Confused? No

Put-off by the price? Yes

Once the day-one hype settles, it will be interesting to see how much this console sells. I've seen many people wanting one, but won't get it due to price. Many people considers it too expensive, specially outside of the US.

Then, Nintendo goes out of its way to forbid imports from Japan even for the games, so they are making sure people can't save even a penny.

To me, this seems a lot like the "$600 US dollars" moment from PS3 announcement. Many here in a gaming forum will defend the price of the console, even the $80 games, but we'll see how the causal consumers react, which are the most of the Switch's install base.

There's a big 2 in the box, so it's a sequel. It's not a "U"

I can say that the box should have a different design thou. PS1 to PS2 has very different boxes

It can confuse some due to same red colour, similar looking console. For sure.

Nintendo is walking a fine line of keeping things familiar while letting people know its a new system.

That's a pretty big "2".

Wii U is confusing. Xbox One X is confusing. "Switch 2" is no more confusing than "playstattion 2".
That's it, job done. They learned not to have a stupid name.

There will be small scale confusion on par with any other numbered console. That's where marketing comes into play and helps spread the word.

It won't stop someone buying Mario Kart World for their kid's Switch 1, but that's a constant. We can only hope helpful staff and website listings give people a warning.

Actually, this is a good point. It won't be because of the name, but the branding itself is the same and that's not going to help matters.
