Yes.

Same box, same design, even many games will be the same on the shelves...
They should have given the system a unique design feature.

The "oled" in the old box makes it look superior also...

Average consumer is getting confused by less than this.

I know, but people still confused the Wii with the WiiU. Of course, I'm saying this to people who aren't video game experts.
They want to surpass PS2 in sales.

I know this is from Monday but I still can't get over it. There is no equivalence between U and 2. Apparently the problem with the U name went completely over your head, which is...concerning. I think copium contributed to this lapse of judgement.

They literally could not have picked a more clear name than Switch 2, the sequel to the hit you already know, like....Super Mario Bros. 2, Terminator 2, PlayStation 2. It's the most boring, safe, idiot proof name possible. Of course that isn't good enough for everyone, there will be confused people no matter what, but we only start counting those people when we start bargaining with ourselves to find secret plots to commercially self-harm just so the last console can kill PS2. Groan...

I understand the package design, but that's a small hook to be making the above posts. If they called it "Super Nintendo Switch", we'd be saying "it's a cool name, but they should have called it Switch 2 like Sony does, especially after the U debacle. People might not even realize it's a whole new system. Frankly, they might just buy the old one. It's probably a plot to break the PS2 sales record". Now that they did in fact pick the most clear name humanly possible, we are putting a microscope on the box that has the giant 2 on it, as proof that if PS2 is dethroned, it was due to...a different secret plot. Xbox level pre-emptive copium.

Crap

The paint reliefs on the cardboard look cheap.

They should have added premium coverage.

It looks cheap.

they look nothing alike. they didn't even use the same logo, just the old wordmark beneath a completely new logo, while the old PS logo was only on the side, shrunken down and monochrome.

meanwhile the Switch 2 uses the same packaging color, the exact same icon and prominent wordmark, with the big change being a 2 added.

not to mention the core system also looking very similar, while the PS2 looked completely different to the PS1.

you underestimate the stupidity and ignorance of the average consumer I think.
I have seen someone in a gamestop ask the clerk what the difference between GTA4 and GTA5 is and why GTA4 was cheaper. wording it as if he thought one is just the revision of the other, like some yearly sports game or a new Windows version.
the guy behind the counter didn't know what to say 🤣.
I already have heard such a Switch 2 anecdote! In a US store someone tried to preorder a Switch 2 but the clerk told him don't bother because it's not much more powerful than Switch 1 and they have Switch 1 already in stock and it's cheaper. The clerk almost persuaded him to buy a gaming PC but he went home with a Switch 1. Story from Tim Rogers www.twitch.tv/actionbutton

So now we can definitively say that some people on here have a really low opinion of people's intelligence, lol

We have iPhones and iPads sell in the tens of millions every year and the packaging never changes. The marketplace is a lot different from whatever happened with the Wii U
