PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Really getting bored of every solo game ending in "durr you got sniped from who the fuck knows where try again!"

edit: also how seemingly everyone in top 15 has a sniper except for you

Might have to just try to make the best guess as to where the circle is going to be after 2-3 shrinks and spot up and wait for the snipers to come to you.

Nah I am pretty much done playing this game solo. I have given it about 4 proper solo sessions and really hate everything about the playstyles in solo. Everyone plays so passively and just sits for a thousand years in one spot. All my fun has been had in duo or groups with friends. I find it substantially more interesting with one or more people to play with and find it 1000% less frustrating. There are way more fun moments that counter dumb bullshit like getting killed by a prone sniper 400m away with no warning. It's a personal frustration thing mostly. Hate solo. Love everything about duo/group.

solo is great I can just browse reddit while playing

lol, I did this first session I played. I got into a safe spot and alt tabbed and browsed Gaf until I heard footsteps. Rinsed and repeated a few times. There was some weird joy in it actually.

Four times in a row, I've picked duo queue and ended up on the spawn island without a teammate. Is that a glitch right now?

I'm staying solo this last attempt because at least it's raining. :(

Oh god the amount of 1st person vs 3rd person.

3rd person players will never get it no matter how you try to explain it so im not gonna try either.

Im just happy 1st person servers are confirmed and coming at some point.

I'm the opinion the game needs more to do in the middle part of the game session. Either you constantly trying to outrun the wall or you hide in one spot for 20min. Also the starting location and random loot can force you in disadvantage position without any fault of yourself.

I would change the game, so that you never find complete weapons, just weapons parts. This would make melee weapons and pistoles the main weapons at the beginning of a match (and give them a reason to exists over a longer time). Getting better weapons would mean a bigger need for looting, which in return puts yourself more into danger. Having a great weapon at the end game would mean, this player actually took a lot of risks and earned himself such a weapon. The same should happing to backpacks and armor. Have the players look like MadMax characters with a lot of spare parts on their body (like how the helmets already look).

Their should also be more choice between gear, which ask from the player to adept, use different tactics or taking risk to get different gear. For example a choice between boats, which either don't give you a speed deduction on mud or make you sneaker in cities.
This would also make squad matches interesting, since you could gear up your teammate for different scenarios.

The Questionable Strategy
Hoooooly cow, I finally have a huge story to tell. I got in a duo with someone who wasn't talking at all. They started spamming marker locations around the spawn island, where the plane was headed. I said okay, I guess you want to go there. I spotted a boat while parachuting down and actually landed right next to it. They landed ON the boat, which was pretty impressive to me.

This meant we should have the best possible loot time for the island, all is well. Except wait, shortly after the mainland they speak up. They sound Chinese and have rather broken English, but they say someone else got a boat and is following us. Yep, a few hundred feet back is another boat. We make it to the spawn island and I tell him to go look for a gun while I guard the boat.

The Escape, 1.0
But wait, I mess up turning the boat around. It seems permanently stuck on the beach, and I realize my only chance is to steal the OTHER duo's boat. I swim around the island, run a little on the rocks, think they changed their minds, and finally find the boat on the other side of the island. It's abandoned. I'm unclothed, unequipped, I've just started to drive it off, and a couple of bullets start hitting me. It sounded like a decently powerful gun. I manage to escape around the side of the island, drive in a circle to pick up my partner who has come back down into the water with equipment, and we race off.

The Escape, 2.0
I have maybe 20% HP, he's hurt but better off. The other two jerks are stranded on the island so we're laughing even though the blue line is actively chasing us. On the mainland, I hit the coast near the road that usually has a car...no car. We start sprinting hopelessly along the road, go around a couple of curves, and find a jeep. I'm outside the blue circle and my health is going down. I start boost-racing the jeep as fast as I possibly can without crashing, desperately trying to get level ground where I can get back inside the circle.

With maybe 3% HP left, I get inside the circle and park in Mylta. I hide inside a mostly looted building with maybe a pistol, and he eventually brings me a medkit. At some point he either dropped an M416 or I found one. We wait until the last minute because of shots in the town or something, and I run for the jeep...only to find out the road barriers make leaving really difficult. He jumps out, I slowly work the jeep through the barriers, we head off down the street. Oops, there are two people directly in the road shooting at us.

The Escape, 3.0
I roadkill them both. We're hurt but we escape the town. At some point I switch to a buggy, I'm hurt more, decide to use a medkit at the last second even though the circle is approaching, and we race off. I decide to climb an enormous bare rock mountain with nothing on top. With my amazing buggy driving skills I climb nearly all the way up and we hide there for a bit. I'm maybe 70% HP, he's maybe 40% HP. We both have assault rifles but just basic holographic or dot sights. No scopes. No sniper rifle. I think no healing items since all he had left after giving me 1-2 medkits was bandages. We have motorcycle helmets and maybe basic police vests.

The Mountain Of Doom
Top 30! That was my goal for the game, so we laugh at our ridiculously dangerous escape. We're actually kind of lucky. It turns out the next circle ends right at the giant rock mountain, and it's extremely unlikely anyone will climb that behind us. We ditch the vehicle and start inching down the front of the mountain at the circle's edge. Top 25! We have no cover besides grass and the occasional tree. Top 20!

He kills half a duo, I guess the other half was sniped from further off. We find a couple of rocks or bushes and try to somehow stay ahead of the circle with little HP and protection. Throwing safety to the winds, we have to sprint past a building surrounded by fences, fully expecting to be shot from the second story windows. We go prone by a rock or something watching the building, but no one comes out. A bunch of people die out of zone or get shot. Top...10?

The End
I spot someone! They're trying to get across a road, but the circle is so tiny there is literally no cover besides slight elevation changes. They are lying in the road and I can see them from 3rd-person view, but not 1st-person view. We stay prone despite being visible from a distance that way. Eventually the guy either dies or we shoot him. Top 5! It's super tense.

I get sniped! Instant knockout, but somehow I don't die. I try to hide behind a tree, my partner fumbles with controls for several seconds, the blue circle is approaching, and then somehow the revive starts counting. I get revived with us barely inside the circle. We basically have to crouch-run into the road, trying to find the remaining players. The circle is something like 25 feet across and will instantly kill us if we're outside it. My partner gets shot, but I shoot the person in the road who got him. I'm literally in a tiny bubble by myself, and then I die. Apparently the last person was outside the circle, and I think there was only one of them.

I believe it was my first ever #2 / #3, and it was just hard to believe considering how awful our equipment was and how close we came to death over and over.

While Monty is being too harsh, I also don't agree with those ideas.

The whole point of Battlegrounds is the simplicity of it all. Adding crafting, the one thing it doesn't do compared to all the other battle royale games would destroy that uniqueness.

Yeah that was too harsh and mean. But they are bad ideas nevertheless. It doesn't change the core issue of randomness. You could still luck into the perfect combination of crafting components, and given the amount of players, size of the island, and random spawns, likely someone will. Or you won't and you'll likely never get a good gun on any given run.

Won a game last night getting last two kills with the double-barreled shotgun. :p People don't seem to expect it but when you're down to a tiny circle it cleans up.

Anyone noticing any lag on OC servers this evening?

Has cost me a few 1v1s, playing in Australia.

Yeah the Oceania server has been a bit laggy for me the last few days, I was even getting some weird rubber-banding while running today.

Pretty much my issue as well. Kept trying to go around a corner to flank a guy but kept warping back to the corner over and over again.

My main complain is, that there is too much luck involved, some weapon-types have no real place in the game (melee and pistols) and the mid-game is very inconstant (either be AFK for 20min or run for your life). My suggestion are based on situations, where i got bad weapons or no backpack at the start. This forced me to move to another area and all the decision and danger, which are involved with it. If you get good stuff at start, there is almost no reason to ever go looting and take big risks again.
Also why should i ever waste time to put on boots or shirts?

I understand, that the simplicity make the game so appealing, but it also makes i into a game, i only play as long as i get first place onetime.

There is only as much luck in the game as you design it. If you have a good loot algoritmus, you can get a game-flow running, which doesn't feel too luck based. Say you have "Weapon-Part A1" and "Weapon-Part B2" at Place #1. Place #1 is surrounded by Place #2 and Place #3. Now, you make sure, both places have one of the missing weapon parts. It is still luck, which weapons parts and finally weapon the player gets, but you at least have move into new buildings, make decisions and take risks. And he even my to go to all three places, since he wants both weapons ready, which should be great reward for taking those risks.

How is this game for loners who only want to play alone?

Also, is it easy to group with randoms?
Solo queue is entirely for solo play. Everyone is solo (except for some crazy people who might attempt to queue into the same server, but I've never seen that). You can sit in a house alone for 20 minutes after looting stuff.

There is also a duo queue so there are about 50 teams of 2 people each on a server, and a squad queue with about 25 teams of 4 players each. All three queues typically put you in a lobby almost instantly, and the game starts about 60 seconds later. It's easy to talk to your teammates and indicate a map marker to coordinate, and easy to mute all voice chat if you prefer.

With the amount of random clothes lying around, I have been assuming that if you win a game you get to add whatever you're wearing (minus the Ghillie suit) to your loadout but I realize I've never seen anyone wearing a coat at the start of the game so I must be wrong.

You don't have to camp if you don't want to.

agressive play is still possible solo. It's less reliable, but you'll get a lot more action that way. Which makes you better for late game firefights.

Got the game an hour ago after watching Twitch streams since release. Finally have some money left after coming back from the Rock am Ring festival. Music festivals just eat up the damn wallet.

I hope I can get into it now gameplay-wise. I'll prepare to get rekt.

Killed Doc today.

We originally got in that fight over the crate with the two guys Doc and Ninja killed, we had no idea that doc and ninja were there, I thought it was the same two original guys. Also Ninja was upset that the guys in the house weren't shooting at us, but we had cover from them on that hill we were proned on (because the guys in the house already had been shooting at us).

Ended up getting 2nd in that game, even after my brother (sivaa) died. Game was decided by final circle RNGesus - was flat ground, he had his tree, I had mine, the circle chose his.

It's the nature of the game to an extent, whether you're in a squad or not.

For example, take my big story up there. We weren't exactly smart, and we had several very narrow escapes, yet we survived to the end. Granted, we are probably on a low-skill matchmaking tier since people had bad aim.

Sometimes I do crazy jumps to try to kill enemies early, though that doesn't gain you anything but practice. Sometimes I drive a car like crazy, Mad Max style, though people have gotten better at shooting out the tires or shooting me so it's hard to get through the final 10-15 that way.

Ultimately if you are trying hard to win, the smartest thing is presumably not to be seen. If you kill people for equipment, other people will hear the gunshots and know where you are. They can then camp you when you leave. Killing an isolated few, or surprising someone in an ambush, seems the safest and most efficient way.

Then don't do it?

In my solos I drive around wreaking mayhem.

In my experience the majority of players don't know how to react quickly to extreme aggression. If someone comes up on the house I'm in, for example, and starts running around plotting an invasion, I don't miss a beat. I just run out and challenge them. Jump around the corner first and shoot first. This tends to have a higher success rate in a confrontations than hiding and pointing a gun at a door.

Ahaha, I got killed by Fatal1ty today. I heard a sniper neighboring my house on the outskirts of Pochinki on the edge of the blue, I tried to sneak up to it to get them as they (I assumed they were about to) ran around the other way, and instead he popped up and killed me with a SKS before I could get to cover.

I checked his stream VOD and he was about to leave in like 10 seconds if I hadn't run out then.

Everything going swimmingly. Jump into the town at the end of the plane's path, kill the only other guy there. I have an AR with 8x scope. Get a vehicle, get to the southern island.

Jump out of my buggy while it's moving. Die from falling.

oh yeah that's a thing isn't it

Clothes only come with the lootboxes you buy with in-game points. Though yeah, I think they should have a way of aqquiring them in-game. Maybe ,say, if you get a jacket from one of the supply drops, and you manage to win that game, you should be able to keep the jacket, I think it would be fair.

I wouldn't say all clothes since jackets are actually really common to find in the game and it would somewhat devalorize the marketplace, but I think items of clothing that are gotten from a supply drop should indeed be kept in case of a win. I think that would be balanced enough. There's only a few supply drops per game, and it's already rare for one of them to even have a jacket in the first place. Coupled with the fact that you need to risk yourself and be out in the open to go get to the crate, it would be fair to let you keep that if you manage to win.

I saw a very detailed negative review on Steam claiming there are ways people cheat and the developers actively ban people bringing up hacks. They also claim the developers support modding (e.g. some people may mod the terrain to be brown and player skins to be bright pink).

Since it's a Steam review I take it with a grain of salt, but there's supposedly also video evidence of some such things.

First solo win! Those final moments really get the heart pounding, even when no one is shooting at you.
Congratulations! I lost hope of getting one, but ending #2-3 as a duo gave me a little renewed hope that with luck I can do it.

I think the game is a bit to focused on the circle and where it takes you and where it closes in at the end. I know it forces people to make a move but damn the final stretch feels like complete luck of if the circle spawns on you or the other guys.

I've gotten 2nd place in solo no less than 3 times before this. Just gotta keep playing and hope for the stars to align.

I completely agree. Think the interval in between the last 2 or 3 circles should increase by a couple minutes. Too often deaths/gun fights are dictated by the encroaching circle rather than letting things play out organically. There's very little opportunity to play tactically if you get a bad draw on circle RNG. It's artificial and 'gamey' in a game that is otherwise devoid of a lot of that stuff.

Anyone else get that problem with this game or is my controller messed up?

Can't comment on Xbox One controllers specifically but the 360 controllers are NOTORIOUS for stick drift like that. Wouldn't be surprised if One controllers have a similar construction for the analog sticks that causes that issue to persist.
