Because it makes the game feel better to play? How many times does that need to be explained?
You can streamline lots of things that would make the game "feel better to play", but that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. Either take away all loot animations or apply it to tab looting. This is PUBG not H1Z1, so I'm fine with it.

For you.
What are you smoking? This isn't Looting Simulator 2017. No, the game is not built around the looting animation (lol). It's built around you ability to shoot and to position/move tactically and efficiently. Looting is a tiny, tiny piece of the overall game, and 1 animation is certainly not "what the game is built around", lol.

Even still, most proponents of this change seem to scoff at the idea that there is any skill difference between looting methods in the first place. So why does it even matter AT ALL to any of you?

I did! Thanks for asking! I'll try to dig up the post for you.
The game is built around animations, this is a fact. There are healing animations, reloading animations, soon climbing animations. You're just exploiting to get around the animations of the game. Is the same as if you found a exploit that skipped the healing period and allow you to heal instantly.

Yes, aiming is comparable to dragging and dropping loot. That's definitely not a ridiculous comparison or anything.

We have implemented start auto-aim and bullet magnetism to lower-ranked players. We implemented this change to provide a fair gameplay environment to all players.

^ Sounds just as ridiculous in this context as well.

The game is literally built around the animation and the time it's required to do things. Skipping it entirely is nothing more than a exploit.

Next someone will argue they should be able to just use a exploit to make healing items heal instantly. So much skill.

I'm not arguing about if it is or isn't exploit. I'm making argument that your argument of drag 'n drop having absolutely no skill to it is nonsensical.

Just like out of bounds exploits in Destiny 1 do take some skill to pull off. Not much, but you still need to know what you are doing and do it well.

I'm curious as to why people think there should be a speed advantage to tab looting.

Because it keeps fast paced games pace up and it's something everyone who experiments with the game even little bit can figure out.

At the end I will adjust to what ever devs do with it, but I just don't see messing with it as very meaningful change.

Or you know, just keep it the way it is. Which seems to be working well so far: *checks Steam charts*.

No, it doesn't in the least. It's hilarious trying to equate aiming and dragging and dropping loot, seriously.

Just as hilarious as I find arguments for making this change. In the end I guess we're getting nowhere. Some people will be cognizant of the change and will feel it's effects right away, others won't and will just be playing a clunkier game and not really understand why. They'll just be more apt to move on when something else comes along.

I'm seeing very similar arguments for the loot exploit as you did for BXR in Halo 2.
It's an exploit.
It isn't intended.
It's getting fixed, get over it.

If you're so good at the game you should know when to loot properly.

People are focusing on the wrong change. This is the true travesty.

-Fixed a bug where a character could see through the other side of wall when scoping or crouching against certain walls

Are they taking all the skill techniques out of the game???

oh please

What a low-energy response...

I mean, as long as we're making arguments that are impossible to refute. His argument was basically "Bluehole is incapable of making bad balance changes because 1 more person will buy this game after they do so!"

If that's truly what you think then I don't even know why I'm having this discussion.

Also healing while underwater was taken out, all my 100s of hours wasted learning this game!! Might as well give everyone a I win button!

You think the idea that the game will be less popular because of this change deserves a "high energy response"? I don't.

Common sense?

It's common sense to believe the net effect of bad updates to the game is zero/nil?

Hell, there's complaints about the effects of an update enacted by Bluehole in last months update on the biggest forum for the game (Reddit), RIGHT NOW:

https://www.reddit.com/r/PUBATTLEGR...tary_island_circles_have_become_too_frequent/

This is directly attributable to this change in last months patch:

Adjusted the play area to spawn more evenly within a circle, so that the play area does not appear in the center so frequently.

I'm certain I don't need to help you understand that it's common sense that negative posts like these, on highly popular discussion forums, have an effect on peoples longevity/loyalty with a game, or purchasing decisions about a game.

Bluehole is not infallible. They can make the wrong decision. And the outcome of those wrong decisions _does_ have an effect, whether you want to admit it or not.

For you.
So... because of this single change / bug fix / exploit fix / whatever you want call it we will see noticeable increase in concurrent players?

Correlation does not imply causation

More and more people will play the game, no matter if this exploit goes one way or the other, that's my point.

I don't think it's any great insight to say that people will continue to buy the game after this change. Less of them will, for sure, had they not made it. And the people playing the clunkier game will be more likely to roll off of it when something like Destiny 2 comes out. It's not just about new sales, its about average concurrent users feeding into the economy, creating sustaining support for the devs to continue to work on the game.

Lol yes drag looting without an animation. Truly the turning of the tide.

Do you hear yourself? You only ever post in this thread when this issue comes up. We get it, you hate it.

Tough titty. Games change. People bitch about everything. That's how game development works.

Without this change there would be a thread on reddit complaining about circles being in the center every second or third game. Which would then be questioned if it is even true like in thread that was linked here.

What on earth are you talking about? Am I reading the PUBG Reddit right now?

"Wow this game looks great! A huge sandbox with looting, 100 players, last man standing.
Sounds incredible. What's that? There's an animation when you press tab to pick up loot? Nevermind, not gonna buy it anymore. Destiny 2 sounds like the game for me!"

Game is in Early Access yo. They're testing things. Stuff will end up changing multiple times. Best thing I can do is make my opinion heard. I'll certainly be posting it on the appropriate venues when the change goes live.

If you don't like it you can mute me.

Aiming and firing doesn't take any skill. You just point and click, truly a accomplishment of god's.

Yet somehow you can get better at aiming, but not optimize your mouse movement and timing / placement of loot drops when drag 'n dropping.

  1. Stand over loot you want pick up.
  2. Hit tab to open inventory.
  3. Drag items from left most bar into your inventory bar.
Character picks up items you drag and drop, but doesn't do pick up animation. This can be used to loot items very fast.

Omg I had no idea this was an exploit as I just got the game 2 weeks ago. I always wondered why people drag and dropped on Twitch when i find Right Clicking significantly faster

tab looting delay is good, y'all are crazy

skill ceiling on looting lol

its like when they made the pistols in tf2 have the highest rate of fire when you just hold the button down. like do you really want your skill ceiling to be based on how fast you can mash (or knowing how to use a script)

You act like games aren't the sum of the multiple systems that make them up. Make negative changes to them each and you end up lowering the overall quality of the whole.

Would have been even higher without it.

yes making a change that make sthe game more appealing to the masses has less affect on consumerbase than not changing it at all.

I assume your argument is that the game loses its purests in exchange for new blood, but there's going to be more new blood who don't give a shit joining the game than there will be hardcore purists who do give a shit and leave.

It's a change that 95% of players won't even notice or care about. It's a quarter second added on to loot time.

The vast majority of the playerbase doesn't even know about this thing. And there is very little overlap between Destiny 2 audience and this.

And shit, why isn't there a mass exodus of people going to H1Z1 instead if "snappyness" matters so much to them?

it's not an exploit
It is. That's why it is getting patched.

no, I think Bread is just acting like you're overstating the impact that such a benign change will have on this game's perception. Not even the perception that players hold - the perception that potential buyers hold. And Bread would be right.

I don't see how making a change that makes the game feel worse to play would 'make it more appealing to the masses'. In fact I'd wager it would do quite the opposite. Most popular PUBG streamers I watch expressed pretty negative sentiment about this change the last time they tested it. I'm sure they have a pretty outsize effect on the unwashed masses. Certainly moreso than we do here on GAF.

Makes it feel worse to play for you. Do speak for me or anybody else here. I find drag looting to be no more efficient or fun than any other kind of looting.

Know what those streamers will do? Continue to play the game regardless.

If someone notable quits playing the game over such an insignificant change they're being childish.

I'm assuming you either weren't playing or didn't try it out on the Test Server the last time they tested this out.

Unless they changed the implementation drastically it was hot garbage.

When you nail down mouse movement and drop spot + timing then drag 'n drop is a lot faster way of looting. Loot flies.

Community sees it more as unintended feature than as full out exploit because this far BlueHole has done nothing to stop it and doesn't ban for it even when exploiting is supposed to get you banned.

To you. Why are you trying to act like you're objectively looking at it instead of just being mad they're removing something?
