PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

I'm getting the same on my 970, was working fine for 3 or so games in a row before the update. Can see the vram usage jump up to >4gb before it crashes, usually happens about 2 mins after landing. Tried reinstalling and clearing my config but didn't help. I'll check drivers tonight and see if they make a difference.

Drivers were the first thing I updated and it didn't solve it either. I'm glad to see I'm not alone in the issue, but sad it's an issue in the first place. Hopefully it's solved soon. My friends are hogging all the chicken without me.

everyone was getting lag on the test servers. how many more people need to experience the problem? And don't tell me they didn't know people where having problems.

afaik there are only NA test servers. So ppl from EU don't know, if it's a server side lag or just the connection to NA.

Went to get a crate, said i got it, price went up...but i still have the credits and no crate. Restarting the game hasn't helped. Anyone know how to fix it?

About to jump in, is there a tutorials? Any tips?

Turn off voice chat immediately. Try to land somewhere out of the way and find some loot before you fight anyone. Wear good headphones and don't listen to music while you play. Don't jump out of a vehicle until it's completely stopped.

Honestly, I'd say do the opposite of what I did starting out. Jump out with everyone else. get used to combat, with or without weapons. Just get the nerves out of the way. Picking up gear, hiding, scoping out areas, that's all a part of the game that will just come naturally and never be your downfall. Unless a freak accident happens...which isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Is this game worth the price right now? The concept sounds appealing, but is it worth more than 10-20 hours right now? Is it worth it to purchase now for the discount? Seems like with its success itll be around long term

I'm at +300 hours in less than 2 months.

Alternatively, if you want to train at shooting jump out the plane immediately and scrap at the beginning. I like alternating between going crazy and playing more sensibly since the games where it's mostly just you looting can drag on after a while.

Whats the difference between this game and others like it, like H1 and Day Z or whatever?

Seems like a lot of these games turn real sour after a while. Is this one THE one to get? Or should I keep waiting in case it turns out to suddenly veer off into a ditch alongside similar games of its kind?

This one is pure deathmatch. H1 and DayZ are.more survival and long term goals. PUBG is get in, spend 20 minutes trying to win, get out. Its a refined version of those other games.

Fuck this buggy ass game. Made it down to the last 4, tiny circle comes in on the building I'm hiding in. Dude walks through the door, doesn't see me. I creep up behind him with my s12k, still doesn't see me. I line up the shot click my left mouse button three times.... nothing happens. Not a single shot goes off. I keep clicking, nothing. He turns and kills me.

I like the new soda drinking animation though.

It plays much quicker, you jump in, get in, die, jump in another game. The randomization keeps things fresh, and it's design forces games to come to an end. Instead of hours of camping and wandering around just to die, the games typically only take a while as players are funneled together into smaller area. It's a simple but genius system that keeps the survival shooter like gameplay fast instead of how dreadfully slow it can be in other games.

Maybe it's about time to buy this. Shooters usually don't last long for me but I've never tried this type either.

Oh I meant to post this in the other thread lol, w/e I guess. Gotta be doing something right if it passed CSGO.

Interesting, thanks! I found the long drawn out survival games appealing, but it doesnt sound practical as I imagine lots of players leave between games and there's a lot of slow down.

But what about the long term success/popularity? I recall other games coming off like they were the next big thing, and then they died off. Is it possible this game ends up the same way? I dont play games on PC often and would like a long term investment

Been out of town on a work trip all week. Can someone give me the meta impressions of 1st person servers? Is it super intense and most importantly is it fun with that restriction?

Tried out the FPP servers last night. Got 2nd one round and 3rd another. I'm worried I'm going to never go beyond that. I always make really stupid mistakes when the pressures on.

Looks like it might be buckling under that 500k concurrent weight maybe?

I just got disconnected from a server in the top 18, It actually seemed like the server just stopped responding. I've never had that happen across 400 hours. Might just be anecdotal though.

What was the last PC game to hit 5 million sales like this in early access?

Has it been done before?

It's at over 6.3 million sales according to SteamSpy.

I think the last game was H1Z1: King of the Kill, which is currently at 6.6 million sales since Jan 15 2015. The King of The Kill mode was partially designed by Playerunknown as well.

I am so bad at this game lol. Got 5th earlier but as always that's with 0 kills. The last bit was intense though in a field with trees where you can see the whole arena but cant see anyone.

Do shotguns not shoot through water. Hit a guy multiple times who was swimming in the water and when surfaces but no its ever registered. Unless that's just this server lag issue. Also Melee hits basically never register. Again I assume its just lag. Hopefully that all gets worked out at some point because its pretty much pointless at the moment. Its early access so I am not exactly annoyed by it. Will just play it now and then and see what each patch does.

I think I just need to keep throwing my self into hot zones to practise combat because apart from a few easy kills I basically just get ruined.

I just typed this out on twitter but I guess I should here. I've got a bit of money laying around and am wondering if I should see what the hell this game is all about.

Problem: I pretty much don't give a shit about PvP shooters. That goes for like, 99% of the ones that have been made recently.

I've been trying to think through all the ones I actually have gotten really into over the years and would want to play again today. What comes up is stuff like... Metal Gear Online on the PS2, Spes vs Mercs, and NEOTOKYO.

My preference seems to be for tight, focused, quick, tactical, and stable games with low player counts. The type of PvP game I enjoy the most are actually fighting games which share those qualities. Definitely don't like upgrade systems and I also don't like the focus on KDR outside of DM modes. Per-game escalation systems are fine with me though. Overwatch didn't really grab me despite structurally doing a lot of what I want. I guess its core game loop and "feel" weren't really right for me. The two games I'm actually most curious about on PC right now are CS:GO and Siege. I own CS:GO but just haven't had the big opportunity to devote time to it. Every Siege sale or free weekend seems to happen at a bad time for me. If it wasn't locked behind the paywall of a console I'd probably try Halo too.

You will spend most this game rummaging through houses and running. It also maybe 100 player but the island is massive and unless you go in on a popular area from the start its rare you will see more than 1 other person at a time. Its mostly super tense trying to get to the safe zone without being noticed and then the final creep to the small zone and see if you can get the jump on anyone. Most my games end in me getting shot in the back with zero kills lol.

No gun can penetrate water

Which needs to be fixed ASAP. But it should also be kept somewhat realistic and you only take damage just by the surface and like 1-2 meters under the surface the bullets would not reach you.

Im sure i have seen the giant bomb guys get hit underwater. Maybe I am mistaken.

Either way there were points he surfaced and i still couldnt hit him. was kinda annoying.

You need to hit the head, which should be above the water, or the shooter can stand just deep enough to where his gun goes under the surface and then you can shoot anything like the water wasn't there.

I've played a few rounds and it's pretty intense which I love and hate lmao. Y'all have any essential beginner tips/knowledge I should keep in mind? Imma join the Discord too

OK thanks. So the water acts as an impenatratable shield for bullets lol. Yeah that needs to change. At least now I know.

If you get into a fist fight at the start of a round, do a jump punch to the other guys head for maximum damage (or just land it on his body). The first guy who hits that punch has basically won the fight since it does a lot more damage. I haven't lost a fist fight so far, but only been in like 5 :D.

Hold down shift when aiming down sights to hold your breath and steady your aim

If you using a bolt action sniper with a scope, hold down the fire button to hold off on loading the next bullet so you can watch where the bullet travels, and adjust your aim as necessary.

Tap RMB to go into first person aiming, hold RMB to use 3rd person aiming.

Press control when using the bike in the air to pitch it down so you don't flip.

Take circle management pretty seriously, it's never fun to die to the circle.

Hold down shift when driving a car or a jeep to use boost (it uses more gas)

Use gas can while in the car to refill while it's not moving

You can heal in a car if it's not moving

Painkillers, Energy Drinks and Syringes (only found in the crate drops from the plane that flies randomly over the play field) increase your adrenaline bar. Health Kits and bandages only heal you up to 75% health. Filling up your adrenaline bar will overflow into your health and get you back to 100% health. Having your adrenaline bar over 60% will also make you move faster, and negate some of the damage you take. A med kit will always do a full heal to 100%.

Level 1, 2 and 3 helmets / armor have more than just more health for the higher levels. A level 1 blocks 30% damage, a level 2 blocks 40% damage and a level 3 blocks 55% damage. It's often worth it for a level 3 helmet with less health than a level 2 as it will prevent a 1 hit kill from a sniper (besides the AWM).

where are people getting this 'drops'? is it just from buying these crates with your earned BP?

Yep.

3rd chicken dinner and first FPP dinner! Really got the worst start to my game. Jumped to military base. Only found revolver so I decided to just run away. Ran into 2 people on my way from main military base. Got couple shots on both of them but no kill. I was nearly dead, 5hp or so. Found bandages from one house and ump and M16A. Healed up to 75%. Found a bike just when blue wall swept past me. Drove from military island into the river near Georgopol. Luckily there was a boat next to me. Took the boat and drove it west end of Georgopol. Found some ammo and blue wall on my tail ran other side of Georgopol. Crawled in the grass to the edge of play area few circles. People killed each other until the final duel. We both just sat there in the grass and waited for like god knows how long. Then the final circle came that probably can't even fit a person. Both of us stood up at the same time and I somehow managed to kill him with my M16A.

~100 players load up into a game, then a plane flies one random straight path over an island (that's approximately 8x8km), with everyone being free to jump and parachute down to where they can/want to go. Guns, armor, healing items, ammo, attachments, etc. are randomly spawned in houses and other buildings, as well as vehicles around the map.

Shortly after landing, a big white circle appears covering like half the map in a random spot and a message pops up saying that players need to make their way to that circle in 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, a blue circular wall of electricity slowly encroaches to the white one from the edge of the map causing minor damage to anyone caught outside. Once the blue touches the white, a new white circle randomly appears inside the blue one, with a shorter time limit until the blue moves again; this repeats over and over with the blue getting incrementally more damaging until all surviving players are herded into a relatively small area. Last man standing is the winner. If you die, that's it, just quit out of the game and find a new one.

Some players tend to drop into "hot" areas like the larger towns and cities and the military base, where the loot density is high but tons of players are attracted to, some like to go to more remote areas out in the countryside and just try to hide and play the edge of the circle, avoiding combat unless necessary.

There's solo play, duos, and squads (with up to 4 people; duos and squads also have a down-but-not-out system). There's custom game support for adjusting various settings or even a rudimentary zombie mode, and they just added a mode that's first-person only (the standard game is third person, which obviously helps with corners, with a first person option).
