I can't imagine being more encouraged to camp than in a game that people can be hiding their entire body behind a wall while they are watching my every move, preaimed at my head, waiting for me to get too close to react. That encourages people to stay still, waiting for the other guy to expose himself first. Having the freedom to move while knowing that anyone that is watching me has to have exposed themselves first encourages movement. The ability to flank someone behind cover, knowing they can only see you if they are looking at you encourages movement.
There's a trade off, though. You get one thing and lose something else. If I'm running across a relatively open area and someone shoots me from somewhere, in third person I can spot him much more quickly and defend myself. In first person my visibility is so reduced that a much larger advantage is given to the person who happens to see the other first. Ie, flanking is stronger. If you accidentally spot someone before they spot you your advantage is greater. More chance. More chaos.
That's one thing in a game like COD where you'll just respawn, but dying before I can defend myself is a bigger deal in PUBG.
I know there's a lot of factors at play, not the least of which is "get good", but at the end of the day I just don't feel safe running around in FPP because my spatial awareness is so reduced. You say you feel unsafe because someone may be third person peaking you, but I say I am quite aware of what dangerous terrain looks like where people might be and I'll be more suspicious of those areas. Just combining common sense with good headphones and how easy it is to track peoples position by sound goes a long way. There's no such thing as total safety, but I feel
far safer in third person, whether I'm roaming or not.
The result of reduced awareness is I move less and camp more. And while it's true that I can't third person peak people while camping, I can still camp just fine by sitting still and tracking a moving person's position perfectly just via sound. A lot of streamers bitch about third person peaking all the time -- Let's see if they stop playing third person all together now that they have an alternative. I bet at least some of them find that it's not all it's cracked up to be.
