PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Just got the closest I've come yet to solo chicken dinner. #2 with five kills. I had the last guy nearly in my sights, but the circle forced me down off the high ground at the last second and the hillside I had to walk down was just sheer enough to send me into the falling animation. That second or two where I was mid animation and couldn't shoot was just long enough for them to get me.

Played my first FPP match. It was perhaps THE spiciest match I've played and most fun I've had in the game so far. It was also the first time I ever had a vehicle run out of fuel.

I managed to get in 7th place with my run abruptly ending to an AWM shot in the head, but man, it's so much more satisfying when you know viewpoints are more limited and people don't have eyes on the back of their head.

I'm really interested in why this game is so extremely popular.

Why didn't dayz, h1z1 get so popular?
When the developer of H1Z1 got bought by some Chinese (?) company they started mainly focusing on just making more cosmetics instead of improving the game. DayZ is not accessible enough for these kinds of numbers. It's always been pretty niche.

My GPU temp goes crazy with the latest update. 83°C and fan speeds are really high. What did they change? (GTX 970)

DayZ did have its bubble of popularity, but it kind of burst between the game being split on the mod and the paid release, and it was quickly squandered with how updates happened and eventually the head of the development ditching. That said, DayZ is a fundamentally different style of game, where it's more persistent survival against AI zombies and emergent co-operation and fights between players, whereas PUBG is an instanced battle royale strictly about PVP and 30~ minute matches.

Hmm I spent around 40k in bp on crates and made around 30$ ^_^ I got to wait now until sunday for them to reset =[

Groza is a nasty gun. Unreal how good it is.

Anyone else have a completely broken game since the patch? If I'm lucky enough to make it through the countdown into the plane without crashing, the game always crashes before I even hit the ground now. It's constant.

No error message either, just crashes.

Anyone else having problems with connecting to the server now?

I had one crash today but everything else was smooth aside from framerate drops during rain.

Apparently you were mowing down dudes with that Groza, 14 kills is impressive

Finally got the chance to try FPP and hated it as much as I expected to.

I think it, ironically, encourages camping because running out of cover when you have a reduced sense of what's around you is less preferable. For instance, I was in roz, and I knew there were a few other players in other houses, and i felt less inclined to leave my house because it's so much harder to quickly see where people are in all directions. It was much harder to determine exactly where they were so I just didn't want to leave cover.

It just felt restricted, weird, clunky with doors and loot, and annoying. I think it's not for me.

For you.
Did I miss something? Nobody landed at the school when I just dropped?

Sometimes you just enter a match where everyone just prefers to avoid hot zones, or have chosen other of the hotzones to go to.I've had a couple of matches where I went to the military zone without anyone else going there.

There was one day where I actually invested on doing a long ass jump from the plane to the school area. The school managed to have little else than a shotgun and lv 1 backpack and helmet.

I just typed this out on twitter but I guess I should here. I've got a bit of money laying around and am wondering if I should see what the hell this game is all about.

Problem: I pretty much don't give a shit about PvP shooters. That goes for like, 99% of the ones that have been made recently.

I've been trying to think through all the ones I actually have gotten really into over the years and would want to play again today. What comes up is stuff like... Metal Gear Online on the PS2, Spes vs Mercs, and NEOTOKYO.

My preference seems to be for tight, focused, quick, tactical, and stable games with low player counts. The type of PvP game I enjoy the most are actually fighting games which share those qualities. Definitely don't like upgrade systems and I also don't like the focus on KDR outside of DM modes. Per-game escalation systems are fine with me though. Overwatch didn't really grab me despite structurally doing a lot of what I want. I guess its core game loop and "feel" weren't really right for me. The two games I'm actually most curious about on PC right now are CS:GO and Siege. I own CS:GO but just haven't had the big opportunity to devote time to it. Every Siege sale or free weekend seems to happen at a bad time for me. If it wasn't locked behind the paywall of a console I'd probably try Halo too.

Random suggestion, but since you mentioned MGO, MGO2 (MGS4s multiplayer) is actually available to play again on official firmware using some minor tweaks.

I'm getting weird control issues since the patch. Whenever I try to pick up stacks of items (like bullets) it pops up the stack split screen and I have to hit OK before it picks them up. What the hell is this? Anyone know how to fix it?

Just played a few games, don't know how to feel to be honest. I liked running around exploring buildings for stuff. But the shooting and aiming was kinda of wack. But it feels like something that will eventually click with me.

Make sure you're holding shift if yer moving while shooting, huge accuracy penalty. When stationary shift holds your breath for better accuracy as well.

Definitely something that takes some getting used too if you've never played anything with realistic bullet physics like this and Arma. Once the adrenaline kicks in though, there's nothing else like this game.

Here's how this is gonna go for you

You explore n loot
I hit you in the head with a frying pan
I eat all the chicken then sell the crates to justify my crippling addiction to French bread

It definitely takes a bit to click. Shooting from the hit is super inaccurate compared to ADS. And getting into the groove of knowing hot spots and movement can take a bit, but once it clicks it becomes a tense experience.

Felt amazing when I snap headshotted a dude a nigh-close range with a Kar

Felt less amazing when all he had was a crossbow, and someone rushed my house

The gamescom crates are currently being sold between 2,5 and 3,5 euros. I think I am going to hold on to these, wow.

edit:
I understand, nice. Planning to buy this weekend. I understand there are something like loot crates and stuff, but there are cosmetic itens that can be gained by playing?

No. The only way to costumize your character's clothing is by buying lootboxes for in-game currency or through the steam market place. You can find clothing throughout the game, but they are only per-game. You don't get to keep any of the items you find.

So if you survive the game you get to keep what you find?

No.
