I didn't want to do that for 3 minutes straight. I was more impressed that someone would have been able to see what direction I was going from that far away, and wait on the beach that long when they're the only one in the city far outside the circle.

I knew where the guy was, it was the very very final circle before it all goes blue, we were both prone in grass, but I only had a UMP.
I was so tense I accidentally fired a couple of shots off. I then had to unprone and rush, and of course died.

I just started this game today. My fourth match, I got my way to #2. The game is way overhyped, imo, but still fun.
You should play with me if you're winning too easily.
I'm not convinced "overhyped" is a useful term to discuss most anything since it's hard for me to imagine a precise measurement of the exactly appropriate hypeness for any given thing.

Squads are great too, but generally the fun in squads comes from comedy more than the game itself

I mean it's super fine if the game doesn't click for you, cause no game can be for everyone.
But, this kind of success doesn't work only on hype.
People, including me I must admit, really like this game cause it's great fun.
One thing you should try before tossing it is playing with friends in a squad tho. I don't play solo at all, don't like it. But in a duo or squad with friends I have the time of my life. Which is crazy cause I don't especially like shooters or multi player games...
So for me it's a genuine phenomenon

I've won the game ONCE out of 124 hours played. I really want to see how the people operate who consistently get top 5 or whatever, since maybe once in that timeframe I've seen a player of that skill level as a teammate.I've ended up top 3 in solo/duo 5 different times in the last week though.

As far as my Solo strategy, I try to land somewhere alone that had 2+ buildings to raid. Hopefully I can get a shotgun and assault/smg.
Then I make my way to the center of the circle. Nothing exciting. Just check out my surroundings and move carefully. Sometimes I'll find a car, exit itband the stake out the car and kill people that try and take it.
Also, proning works.

BattlEye at random blocks it, yes. It is intended, but isn't as devs have green listed it as okay thing to use.
Just restart game time or two and BattlEye will let it run. It's weird like that.
So, so weird. Was worried it was ReShade or something.

BattleEye is really fickle. Sometimes RTSS gets blocked when the vast majority of the time it doesn't.

I've put about 70 hours into the game and have never won solo/duo. Many squad wins, however (only because they carry me).

It randomly blocks Afterburner for me too. Right now it's working. So weird.

Had my first round, too and made the 5th place...Without finding any weapons, haha. I basically just ran for the white circle and crouched around, hiding and praying. 
The first few games are always easy / easier to win (won my first 3 games after the rank reset). Once you get higher rating, the difficulty of games ramp up, players are a lot better at the game.
Yup, and if you're trying to maximize wins it encourages spreading your playing time across all the servers so you don't get screwed over as badly by the skill based matchmaking.
Got a great kill on a driver,but couldn't get this guy at the bottom of the stairs. Sometimes the shooting vs movement is really off.

I know they made the SCAR rarer maybe a month or so ago. You probably just got unlucky with some bad RNG. Finding at least 1 decent AR usually isn't too hard.
