PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Your B) option seems to assume that funding should only be devoted to one thing when there is nothing left to do on another thing. Isn't that a little silly? I think most businesses fund multiple things simultaneously.

"One thing" being "improvement of the game"?

Because that's far, far more than one thing lol.

For you.
Literally every single crate in every game I've played had this happen. Go look for some of the limited run CSGO crates, they're worthless.

There will be new, better looking cosmetics and no one will want the older shit.
Nah, any crates that are even remotely similar to this situation have retained their value pretty well. And considering it will be a while until we get new crates with new things, it will increase in value far before that happens.

I'm looking at the CSGO market right now, and some of the "limited" stuff is only selling for a couple dollars.

Beyond that, I really don't have any proof that it'll drop. Just anecdotal. If I'm wrong, great, but I've seen plenty of "limited run" crates and items sell for less than .03 when event is over.

Nothing in any of the Gamescom crates are particularly unique and it's normal clothes. When some of the more ridiculous cosmetics start showing up, even less people will want the old stuff.

Do you get BP if you exit to lobby mid match? I usually just kill myself if I need to go AFK but I'm wondering if that's necessary.

So the implication here is either
A) Bluehole have hired a group of employees on their payroll whose only job is to set up and run a tourney and who have absolutely nothing else to contribute to the game or have nothing else left to fix within the game itself

or

B) Running a tournament (and hiring a group of people to do so) was deemed an adequate venture to devote time and funding towards because there was nothing else left to do to expedite improving the game and fixing major bugs.

I'm really curious to know which way you guys were going with that train of thought.

Do you really think those are the only two options? Like... is this a serious post or are you trolling?

I think the fact is that there are so few crates out there right now so unless Bluehole starts releasing new cosmetics every month the Gamescom ones will still have decent value. I'll probably cash in the 5 I have along with my yellow outfit next month to buy NBA 2K.

It's likely we won't see new crates for a while, and i think there will always be some demand for the Gamescom items, since the rarest drops are all outfits that are more than "normal clothes", they are outfits from Battle Royale, the movie, itself.

Just had my first chicken dinner! I had very few healing items and a very bad sequence of ending circle. Also, I had to scramble every time because it reduced at the complete opposite of me but I pulled it off. For once I had plenty of ammo, red dot and acog at least so no complaints from me.

I actually didn't consider that they wouldn't be cranking out the crates. Expected them to go hog-wild on the cosmetics because of the $$$.

How the fuck can a shotgun get a one shot kill against full armor, but 5 bullets or so from an m4 won't? Annoying as shit.

Shotgun blasts are 9 pellets, as long as all 9 hit you're dead, even through level 3 vest, minus the S12K which would only do 89 damage with all pellets hitting a level 3 vest.

5.56 ARs will kill a level 3 vest in 6 shots, 7.62 ARs will do it in 5.

Keep in mind you do more damage hitting a limb over level 3 vest if they're wearing one.

I struggle so much with telling where I'm being shot from, I know you're supposed to follow the sound of the bullet not the whoosh but I do that and I still never see the guy, they'll just miss 20 shots until the finally land a few shots and kill me, it's extremely frustrating.

Just takes practice. Try to find the general direction, and then look for locations where you would be shooting from at that spot. Behind trees, behind half walls, in windows, etc.

Just tried to "pretend to be afk" and there were actually 0 real afk people in my game. Just 4 people that pretended to be afk until they realized everyone was slightly turning to look at each other. At that point we all dove down.

All strategy, this win :)

Was shot at countless times but always had enough meds to get to cover and heal. For the last circle, the #2 guy was inside a building and was forced to exit. He jumped out a 2nd story window and landed right in front of me :)

It's so weird they never put any sort of patch notes together, just the one Twitter post. There are a bunch of patch update posts by various mod posters on the forum, but not for this patch.

Why was I not aware that 15x scopes were available, and wow, it was amazing. Shooting people from so far that they just spin around aimlessly.

i find the first person-mode so much more enjoyable than the standard mode. No more wierd camping behind walls while scouting with the third person-camera.

Sadly i'm afraid it will always be lookad at as a secondary mode because the third person was released first.

2x 2nd places in squads
1x 2nd place in duos
1x 2nd place in solo
6x top 10 in squads/duos
2-3 RNG losses/not top 10
and one win in squads.... and I didnt even shoot my weapon or live past 40-Left.

Dunno how I feel about that.

Someone ambushed me with the S686 but I had a level 3 vest and survived with 5% health. I spun and emptied my AR clip, then giggled for 10 minutes at the imagined salt.

I could use more dedicated school/military drops myself, but when I drop there I usually get exactly one kill, reveal my location, and then get snuffed from behind.

Is there any reason to keep the normal jump now that I've bound crouch jump?

Chicken Dinners in Solo, Duo, and Squad now. 50 hours only so far, but the game is still a blast. Probably going to be my GOTY

It would be nice if you could see how much damage you did to an opponent when you lose an encounter. Now you just lose and you can't tell by how much.

The "Hit points" in the end screen is based on how much damage you did during the match. It is a bit confusing since the values are different for the different game modes but the basic gist is:

Solo: 20 hitpoints = 100 damage
Duos: 15 hitpoints = 100 damage
Squad: 10 hitpoints = 100 damage

So you can make an educated guess in how much damage you did before dying.

But what if you hit multiple targets or what if they heal? I mean it would be interesting to see the damage numbers just for the last encounter when you die.

First person mode is the only reason I got the game. I haven't played third person mode yet and I'm never going to. I think the ability to look around cover without taking any risk ruins the game.

I have to unlearn what every other game has taught me...

NO, I CANT JUST BAIL OUT OF A MOVING VEHICLE TO ENGAGE IN A FIREFIGHT.

I was one of the last 3, then I go and kill myself doing this. Sigh...

I might finally buy the game this weekend. One concern I have is how fast I can get back into a new game when I get killed. There are a ton of players but I don't know how fast the process is to start a new match. As a new player I'll probably get wasted quite early.

Also is there a way to run around on the map by myself? To get a feel of how stuff works?

You get into matches within seconds. There is about a minute long wait time on the spawn island while everyone is loading in but aside from that it's pretty much instant.

And no there's no way to mess around on the map on your own.

I don't think I can do this anymore.

I really like the game but the performance is atrocious. I just got in my third firefight today where as soon as the shooting started the game skipped frames like crazy and I missed all my shots.

I've tried playing with my settings and turning everything all the way down and up, reinstalling drivers, changing my graphics card control panel settings, it's just a nightmare.

I should not have to go through all this frustration just to run a game at playable settings.

Matchmaking takes about 10 seconds, starting a new game is between 25-60 seconds, the drop to the map can take about 30-90 seconds.

So overall about 1-3 minutes between action.

It's an early access game, and technically not a finished product. This is clearly stated at point of purchase and should come as no surprise to anyone.

I expect the game to at least be able to offer a somewhat stable experience. I don't think that's too much to ask for, even in early access.

To be fair, I don't think we will see the game in perfect stable and bugfree condition even after full release.

Agreed.

I mean, that's fairly irrelevant. People are still free to criticize it, and stop playing if they think it's unplayable.

Yeah, especially in this day and age when everything is early access and the Steam front page pushes and promotes early access things as hard as anything else. It's not some "try at your own risk" section off in some menus somewhere. It's pushed front and center. I know all EA games have a disclaimer, but what is actually being communicated to the customer?

That said, I do think PUBG is one of the better examples of early access since it's been updated so much and has come such a long way only since March. I know some people still have issues, but the game runs really smooth for me now when it didn't used to.

The risk you take with buying into a game at the Early Access phase, and something that nobody can predict until it is flipped into full release form.

Of course people are free to criticise a game, that isn't the issue here. You have to rein in your expectations of performance for a game when it is advertised as an unfinished product with little guarantee otherwise.

That's your expectation versus the reality of what is being offered. I'm not saying a game shouldn't be stable (even a game exiting Early Access doesn't guarantee that), but it certainly isn't guaranteed during the stage PUBG is currently at. That aside, there is also a refund period if the game does not meet satisfactory performance for you.

Sigh, I'm losing my PUBG crew to Destiny after this weekend.

Inevitable now that complacency has settled in and the updates have died off. PUBG has gone from a vibrant and evolving upstart to an overwhelmingly stagnant success.

I'll come back once they add vaulting.
