PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Man, I'm constantly thinking about this game and how I can improve my playstyle, haha. I always was a console gamer and I'm a really bad shot so adjusting the different aiming sensitivities is a must when I get to play it after work. Mouse and keyboard are so hard to master.

I need to find that sweet spot where it's sensitive enough so I can turn my character without repositioning my mouse...At the same time I need to stay calm in tense situations and NOT move the cursor frantically across the screen.

Sounded like it would possibly be in consecutive patches. :\

That Reddit post wasn't meant to be taken as literal form of when and what is to come, rather a insight into their current projects because of the shift away from weekly patching. People were getting worried they'd legged it or something like other Early Access titles (fuck you Stomping Land) and that was a way to convey that "hey we are actually doing stuff its just really fucking huge stuff."

Golly, I put out a buy order of 1.85 for Gamescom crates, and tonight it hit that low for me to actually snag 5 of them.

I have like 13 of them. Should I buy keys for them all, or hold onto them?

Oh man I watched a few GiantBomb/Waypoint PUBG streams and that shit was so funny. Vinny is hilariously bad at this game.
I wish my friends had time to play this game with me...

I think eventually keys are gonna hit dirt cheap because there's always gonna be more keys than crates since you could buy them freely

But idk the steam market so well so maybe I'm wrong about keys being cheap cause of that

Wait, you can't buy keys ingame anymore? I didn't realize that.

I assume you probably can? Now that I'm thinking about it though the keys are probably generic for any paid chest so what I said doesn't make sense maybe?

Was thinking on the basis that they were gamescom specific keys but that would be silly probably

Wait it is a gamescom specific key

So yeah, I think keys will definitely get cheaper on the market eventually, but I have no idea how much so

If you can still buy gamescom keys, then the point of buying them second-hand will continue only to be so you can flip the item immediately instead of waiting a week.

I see the crates have, well cratered severely, the Gamescom crate is now worth 87p.

EDIT: And whilst typing that they have jumped up again to £1.72

Heh, got my first ever roadkill in my last game and ended up racking up 4 more.

People get tunnel vision when a crate drops.

Also I cannot fathom why someone would run to try and flank me when I crash my buggy into a wall directly in front of them when they could just fill me with bullets why I am reversing up for a second try to run them down.

Hey Vinny is one of their stronger players, the giantbomb pro squad is Vinny, Jeff and uh... ben and abby for support. Alex is just pretty bad at it and Dan is the worst teammate to ever walk the earth (but can sort of hold his own in a fight if he is solo).

Yasnaya is easily one of my favorite cities to loot on the map.

I am super bored at work right now, so I drew up a little map of how I think about Yasnaya. I always loot the red buildings and then if I have time head to the old buildings (marked orange) before I peace out. Check the garage in the west of the city and then the field south of the old buildings if you need a vehicle to leave.

I just wanna say thanks for this post. Keeping these houses in mind has high priority stops has greatly increased my looting results when in Yasnaya. Cheers!

I will never understand why people camp HEAVILY in the blue zone towards the end of the game. Like.... you know they won't survive unless they have every fucking healing item in teh game because they'd have so far to go. Just.... wtf.

As a beginner is it a good idea to drop in a hot zone to get a hang of the shooting and aiming?

Since there's no shooting range or practice with bots it's probably best to drop in hot zones and get into encounters early on as much as possible to improve your gun fights. You'll die a lot but when you start winning your fights and can leave the area alive and with loot then you know you're improving.

Watching streamers like shroud it seems the major hot spots at the start are the school or military base.

Also what is your experience with random quads? Do they communicate? Too many idiots? My social anxiety is probably preventing me from going that route anyway....

No idea, just been playing solo. I'm sure it's not fun doing it with randoms.

Just got a duo Chicken Dinner with my friend who is 'terrible at video games' (his words, not mine) basically by good circle luck. For the first circle we had to drive all the way across the map, but we holed up at a nice defilade and didn't have to move until the late stages of the game when there were only 7 people left.

We had pretty limited and mediocre loot, but I ended up getting two kills right at the end and taking home the W. First one in a while as well, feelsgoodman.

Man, I am so terrible at short to mid-range encounters. I decided to play some more aggressive solo matches, and I failed all but one of the firefights I got myself into. It's super discouraging. :(

I guess it's back to sneaking around and sniping people.

What guns are you using and how are you using them? ADS/Hipfire etc

Well, my first encounter I was using an M416 with a red-dot sight.
Second encounter was with a UMP9 with red-dot
And the last one was with a shotgun (not double barrel).

For the most part I use ADS, but I think on those encounters, I should have just held in right mouse button. I guess I just get way panicky and I feel like my aim is all over the place.

Land in Novo with a buddy get 3 x8 and all the loot we can get to ourselves, don't run into anyone till we see a drop between the bunkers and the villa. A guy is on a moto so I give chase, my UAZ just drives like shit and lays on the side when I get near him, I get out of it (the vehicule is stopped but laying on the side) and I instantly die, fucking game without a single shot....
Next solo game I got myself 6 kills, I'm well looted and only 12 guys left, circle is at the bridge north of the watertown, I get shot from a sniper so I lay in the grass and go back behind my Dacia, I pop an aidkit and hear a guy coming, my SCAR-L set to auto, I see the dude rushing me, I click my left mouse button and not a damn shot comes out, damn thing is bugged...

This game is so infuriating cause litterally 1/3 of my deaths are cause of bugs or shoddy design. Getting stuck in terrain, parachute not opening, death from stupid vehicules, weapons not firing, I mean damn... near 9M sold, close to a million playing your game on Steam, get a grip!

/rant

I was so excited after my last solo win that I closed the game before saving any of my kills. The last 1v1 was epic and I lost it forever. Damn =(

I'm leaning more and more to preferring long shots with a single fire M4 over the AKM above medium distances.

Feels deadly with an 8x scope.

I feel like an M416 / M16A4 does like 25% health if I'm lucky for single shot so I've been trying to use the AKM for the chance at a kill before someone just hides. What's the headshot damage for M-series rifles with a level 2-3 helmet?

If it makes you feel any better, I think I've literally never gotten stuck in terrain, had my parachute not open, nor had an auto weapon not fire auto in like 140 hours played. It may be hard to reproduce so that's why it's tough to fix.

On the other hand, I've definitely had the parachute thing where it glitches on a tree, asks me to cut it 2 feet above the ground, then teleports me to the drop of the tree and drops me for an instant KO once I cut it.

Second place for the first time! So close and tense as fuck. The finale took place at the quarry which was crazy in itself. Back behind one of the trees was my last opponent. I tried to kill him with a frag grenade but it didn't hit him so he shot me within a blink of an eye after I tried to aim for his head, haha. Close!

If you're up close, the UMP Hip fire is nasty. It has such low recoil. M4 isn't horrible up close but you probably don't wanna full auto. Maybe short bursts.

I keep running into this thing where I am backed up away from a corner, there's no indicator showing my gun is aimed at the wall, but my bullets still all hit the edge of the corner when I peek anyway.

Bought the game yesterday on hype and after watching some streams. I knew I'd like it but yooooo this game is legit. I'm infatuated with it, and its so different and fresh for me. Never played another battle royale so I'm new to the genre.

First game was solo, game in 8th.. goddamn what a rush. Second game, 12th. Then I did some squads with randoms with MICs, we started playing a few rounds together. We came in 2nd twice, 6th another time. Total cooperation, planning, calling things out, flanking, baiting other squads and this was all so realistic in a non realistic kind of way.

I've since told every friend I know to drop whatever they're playing and buy PUBG. Fuck ... there goes my weekends.

MUnited83

For you.
I am 80% sure I tested this -- bought a key off the market wondering why people bought them, opened a crate, and verified that I could immediately put it for sale unlike my other items.

I could be wrong though.

That would be weird and not at all like any other thing ever sold in the market. Everything you buy in the market needs 7 days to be resold, including keys. And if those keys are used on a crate, the item that comes from it will need to wait 7 days to be resold as well. If it works otherwise that-s weird.

No other player is The Oracle, nor could any do a 5 boat armada with a 4 man squad!
I watched a few PUBG streams on Twitch and they were ok, nothing special but the GiantBomb stuff is hilarious

You have plenty of friends waiting for you on the GAF discord !
Well, English is not my native language. I do watch movies and read books in English but I don't talk to people in English so... doing this would probably be a good idea to improve that if I think about it now but I am a bit shy lol

As much as I'm loving the success of PUBG and really enjoy the game, I hope it opens up more opportunities for investment so Crytek can finish development of The Hunt.

The Hunt looks like a perfect blend between battle royale gametypes and tense horror shooters like STALKER and The Evil Within. I'm so stoked for it.

Weird. After a month of it working, the game is back to shutting off my computer again.

Always happens right when the first circle closes in too. It doesn't happen every time, but when it does, it always happens at that part of the match. It's very frustrating.

Surprised people are still playing TPP. FPP is so much more fair IMO

TPP feels more fair because of the matchmaking IMO, I notice I have an easier time in 1v1 fights in TPP than FPP because it's the wild west and you could be playing against some 2000 hour guy as a newbie.

Just a friendly reminder to those looking for some "quality" (definition is up for interpretation), teammates, the PUBG GAF Discord link is in the OP (quote it).

Epic firefight killing 5 people. Only to die when a squad crawls up behind us. RIP
had a complete newbie watching our backs o well it happens.

People have different preferences. A lot of people like games like Gears of War, Socom, Uncharted, TLoU, etc.

I keep running into this thing where I am backed up away from a corner, there's no indicator showing my gun is aimed at the wall, but my bullets still all hit the edge of the corner when I peek anyway.

Ya that's something I hope they address. At least have some kind of indicator on screen that your bullets will hit the wall. Gets frustrating when you try to stealth kill someone and end up totally giving away your position for nothing.
