Well, new high for me I guess. 3rd Place with 4 kills. Had something funny going on with some jackass who refused to get into the fight with anyone and instead played Chicken with the circle up until the end when I presume he ran out of jerrycans.

Getting better, though I think there must have been lag involved in my death at the end there - Pumped two shotgun shells into the other guy at like three feet away, when earlier I had oneshot a guy from at least ten feet. And unlike most people I don't seem to have any performance issues messing me up on High settings (bar Foliage floored) - Pretty much constant 60FPS for me from start to finish somehow.

Tip to anyone struggling: Land as far from everyone else, wait until near the end of the plane's flight to jump, and if you see someone in front of you on your descent, immediately whip your mouse 90 degrees. Try to get a Rifle and Shotty setup. Main the rifle and keep it on the highest firerate in case you get jumped in CQC. Don't camp, keep moving towards the center of the circle looting buildings on your way to get a snowball of equipment. Engage only on your own terms and don't fall for obvious traps.

And until 1st Person Only gets implemented, stay behind cover in combat no matter what, or make a mad-dash for cover closer to your opponent if they're being too passive.

I always make an absolutely boneheaded move due to nerves in or around the top 10 and die.

-Trap myself on a roof trying to snipe and realize just how exposed I am if I move an inch, try to get a guy below in a bush and immediately headshot from the massive hill overlooking me that I didn't consider until it was way too late
-Get so absorbed suppressing a guy outside that I don't realize that my squadmate covering our rear downstairs got popped by said guy's buddy running in, I react to the warning and spin around a second too late
-Have a guy dead to rights from above and 20 yards away with no cover as his back is turned to me running from the blue, I aim at him with my ACOG, then realize too late I have burst fire on and am so surprised by the recoil that I panic and miss half the shots before he headshots me (the blue finished him off anyway, I think)
-Stalk a guy into a house, realize from the doors and loot that he's stopped and is waiting inside for me, peek forward into the obvious trap of a room instead of throwing a grenade and end up eating a SKS blast to the face.

That last point is something that will continue to be an issue for me. It always seems like I have zero patience with allowing people I think I have cornered to make their move and instead I rush to take them out and pay the price for it. Each time I tell myself I'll slow down and be more tactical - never plays out.

New thing to add to the list: rushing into the near final zone (which was a barren mountain with no buildings) with a buggy only to realize I'm the first one there and immediately get shot at from three directions.

The common thing is always a mix of panic that I need to do something right now even if that something is a bad idea, and the high I'm on that I've survived so far and usually have good/decent loot and some kills.

How do any of you get good performance with this game in its current state? For myself and even friends with 1080's and newer i5's the game runs like absolute dogshit even on mostly low settings.

I see these YouTube videos of the game running smoothly at higher settings and I don't understand.

Got my first team win yesterday, with all 4 of us surviving until the end. Luckily we managed to miss most of the big fights until it got to the last 15 or so. We managed to get into a building that was in middle, and as the blue circle came in, we all rushed out. One of my team went down but he took out the last guy at the same time for the win.

Thanks fam! (This is voidpl0t) :p
Thank God my horrendous butchering of English language isn't audible :D

<3 ;P

SamuraiX just carried my sorry ass to my first W. This game is intense AF at the end.

That was a fun win! Good eyes, good patience. First time I finished a round in that area. Another case of everyone just slaying each other while we sneak around. There were like four or five squads that wiped each other out in the last 10 min around the mountain at Stalber. I'm glad we bailed on dropping in the flooded city. lol

Vid of win: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT-4kWISJg0

Don't judge me for being completely oblivious to the last guy hiding in the bush. That dude was one with nature. I was so damn spooked because I thought he came out of the electric field so I was like wtf.

Don't use the "Very Low" option for anything. I've heard of multiple accounts that it'll actually give you worse performance. Try Low/Medium for everything.

New to PC gaming (well it's been 10 years lol) and looking for teammates who aren't too concerned with winning and will put up with a complete noob.

Anyone just want to have some fun?

Hop onto Discord with us, a lot of people there to group up with. Just let people know you are new to the game and we will show you ropes.

Link to discord is embedded into opening post of thread, quote that post to get the link.

Awesome, thanks! Man PC gaming has come a long way in 10-15 years lol finished up the PC this weekend and getting used to stuff again. I'll be on shortly and talk to you guys on there!

If you're in a squad with friends, can your friend shoot you in the back? What happens when you are the only ones left?

they can shoot you / friendly fire in this game.

If you are playing squad mode then you win as a squad if anyone from your team is the last one(s) alive.

Any time i play this game, i just imagine what it'd be like if EA made game like this with Frostbite 3.
DICE probably could make fully polished game like this in about 4-5 months if they reused all their assets from previous games.

Just saw the game cracked 100,000 concurrent players this weekend. There's even 95k playing right now. I love that people are loving this!

I give it 2-3 months before H1Z1 is overtaken in both peak and average numbers.

Its close in numbers during peak.

As time move forward we'll see what happens :) A lot of issues with both games to be solved, but compared to H1 this is actually developing and not selling boxes.

i will never not get angry at another player deliberately dooming themselves to die to the blue with absolutely zero way out just so they can ambush you a second before they die

I love this game so much. The rush as you get into the smaller circles just can't be beat.

Do we know what the developer plans to add to the game in future updates?

As with most Early Access games it's hard to tell how further support will go just based on the first couple of months. H1Z1 also got a good amount of support initially before it turned into a slotmachine.

I'm running a 4690k with 8GB and a 1070 and it runs flawless at Ultra for me. I don't play that way because I know many play with foliage and shadows turned down because let's be honest, it's easier to see other players that way which is widely known. Maybe because my i5 is not completely new? Also it's running from my SSD.

edit: these are my settings now

I think as long as PU is involved it should progress but you never know. It's a gamble but even if the game randomly evaporates tomorrow, still got my monies worth :D

aztek is ok

H1Z1 is feeling the pressure, just went to 40% for a weeklong sale.

Anyone else get lag the first time they fire a bullet? I may not be lag but it feels like that, anyway the first shot i fire is always followed by a stutter.

This thing is also eating all my RAM, when playing I have 10mb free RAM sometimes 0mb. I have 8GB and don't have anything else running, not keen on upgrading either if its only going to have a very minimal difference.

I have a 1070 and an almost new i5 (6600K overclocked just a bit) and it runs great on my system with everything maxed but foliage. Also coming from an SSD.

This game does not run flawless. It drops frames like a bitch quite a lot of times.
Just ran it again after I posted my reply above and with everything on Ultra, it never dipped below 50 for me when playing. Actually it was in the low 30s on the flight out but once I landed, there was no issues. Maybe flawless was the wrong word, but it certainly plays well above what I'd consider acceptable for most.

I'm sorry, but i just dont believe it :)
Every stream/video i've seen dropped frames, it also drops frames a lot for me (6800k@4ghz + 1080gtx).
Run fps benchmark in FRAPS for a whole match please and post it on google docs :p

Don't have fraps, just run the fps counter within Steam. Tell me a way to do it free and I'll gladly run it for ya because I'd like to know for sure myself.

This functionality in FRAPS is free.

You can also do it with MSI Afterburner, but its more complicated. In fraps it just setting the time limit and pressing a key.

Well I'm in-game right now and actually I was wrong. In houses and building, it does drop to mid 30's at times but outdoors it's all 50+. And again this is with everything on Ultra, all settings. Still perfectly playable for me.

I just got to #2 in Solo and actually had the other guy in my sights and popped him twice when he got me with a SKS headshot. Hands were shaking.

edit: The funny thing is, that entire round I had just decided to play devil-may-care and drive right up to places, run through them, and then take shots whenever possible. It actually paid off!

I've had the same experiences. When my teammates die early I usually just say fuck it I'll go out guns blazing so they don't have to watch me play for 20 minutes only to get outnumbered and die. Somehow I've won a few times playing this way.

Lol you are making this game wayyyyyy too hard with everything on ultra.

Foliage & Shadows should be low / very low for best performance. I reduced shadows from medium to low and got a 15 fps boost on a 970 + 4790k @ 1440p

I was just doing it for testing purposes per the discussion. You can see the settings I actually use further up in screenshot I posted earlier today. :)

H1Z1 is on sale for $12 right now. Never played either of these, should I bother with it or just get this one?

They are two very different games and I enjoy both for different reasons.
Agree with this. I bought it last week while it was $10 and change from GMG because it was the first of the BR games I was interested in. I bought PUBG first though so felt it was time to compare.

I don't agree in any way with people who simply dismiss KOTK as 'trash' because it offers something for a different type of gamer. Much more fast paced gameplay where you can pick up loot a lot faster, open doors quicker (less clunky), quickly get into vehicles from any side, and have a more arcade style experience with a lot of action. Games are typically with around 170 players (solos at least) and it goes pretty fast.

With that said, I'm not a fan of no mini-map and not seeing your exact position on the main map but I adjusted fairly quick. Like Somnia said, I enjoy both games for different reasons depending on my mood.

edit: it's still on sale on GMG.
