PLAYGIRL editor-in-chief Michele Zipp has been stripped of her duties after she revealed how she voted Republican in the 2004 election.

Zipp, in an e-mail, claims she was fired after an onslaught of liberal backlash.

"Hello Drudge,

"After your coverage of my article about coming out and voting Republican, I did receive many letters of support from fellow Republican voters, but it was not without repercussions. Criticism from the liberal left ensued. A few days after the onslaught of liberal backlash, I was released from my duties at Playgirl magazine.

"After underlings expressed their disinterest of working for an outed Republican editor, I have a strong suspicion that my position was no longer valued by Playgirl executives. I also received a phone call from a leading official from Playgirl magazine, in which he stated with a laugh, "I wouldn't have hired you if I knew you were a Republican.

"I just wanted to let you know of the fear the liberal left has about a woman with power possessing Republican views."

Hope she sues the fuck out of them.

I have to question the character of anyone who aligns themselves with the current Republican party. And I certainly won't be dating any woman who believes the propoganda constantly shat out by BushCo.

The last two presidents (and talk radio) have completely polarized this country to the point of no return.

I hope an awesome third party candidate can abolish all this nonsense

While it's wrong to fire someone for political ideals--there is a slight conflict of interest there, with the current Republican's puritanistic views on sex.

Or you could question her character because she's the (former) editor of a PORNO MAG...

What retarded logic. Good luck in life.

Clinton was polarizing? More like the congressional witch hunt carried out by House Republicans and their operatives at Kenneth Starr's law firm.

That was all Clinton's fault, duh.

That's nice, but it doesn't really contribute much to the discussion of a woman who was apparently fired for personal beliefs.

How is this that different from the case of the woman who was fired for having a Kerry-Edwards bumper sticker? Republicans should be busy supporting the business' right to fire and hire.

Hope she sues the fuck out of them.
Yells in obnoxious voice: "frivolous lawsuit!!!!".

btw: Gay men are the other major buyer of Playgirl.

you know. just because someone considers themselves a republican, doesnt mean they believe everything the republican party stands for. same goes for any political party..

I'm always leery of claims of being persecuter for political beliefs, especially coming from somebody aligned with the party in power.

More like.....the left direction, lololololololo!

And while I don't agree with the decision (firing over political alignment is just retarded), I do however agree with incognito. If someone genuinely considers themself to be a "conservative", I'm fine with that; but the instant I hear someone say they actually support the current corrupt, heartless republican party, they lower themselves down a dozen notches in my eyes.

I agree. I think she's just trying to get publicity and drum up some kind of wrongful termination suit.

How is this lawsuit frivolous? Provided Playgirl isnt a privately owned company (which I can't imagine it is), then I can't imagine anyone being in support of this.

And err, her political beliefs clearly didnt prevent her from doing her job prior to this, so whether or not Republicans as a whole have a "Puritanical view on sex" is completely irrelevant.

I really hope some of you are joking, because if you're not there's something definitely wrong with you.

This shit shouldn't happen to ANYONE, regardless of their political affiliation.

Small balls, big fun!
1) This is one person's claim, which may be true or may not. In the past, some people have jumped the gun and looked silly.

2) This is certainly a bad thing if true. I hope you'll say the same thing about gay Arab-language translators fired from our government for their sexual orientation.

3) Meier, we love ya, but when you post stuff about politics, the stuff tends to be kind of pissant. When you post about this and about some guy making a counter-documentary against Michael Moore, you're giving the impression that you're trying to support your side, but don't think the actual policies are defensible.

How about this: I will give a custom tag to anybody who posts a thread defending president Bush's plan for Social Security. We've got some Republicans left, and this is the president's one major policy initiative right now. This can't be that hard.

I wouldn't know if she did her job well. I'll have to take your word for it.

Really, the responses in this thread do nothing but show the two-facedness of the left. Everyone should be given equal rights... provided they aren't Republican! It's kind of funny really.

And I totally edited that post well before the quoted reply showed up. Dammit. :(

:lol :lol

You can't be serious, can you? A Republican bitching about equal rights -- only when it affects one of their own.

Ahh.

I don't know much about employment law, but I believe if she was officially fired for no reason she'll have a tough time making a case of it. I certainly don't agree with firing someone for political beliefs but to give Playgirl the benefit of the doubt, I'd say it's possible that mentioning political beliefs in a professional context goes against what they want from their editors, and this ensuing controversy might show why they would have a policy like that. I've never understood why mags like Playboy and Hustler seem pretty in your face with their political leanings. Not that they shouldn't incorporated political editorials in their articles, but they shouldn't have it so one sided when ultimately they're just peddling boobs to the masses.

You're joking... Right? I thought it was... Everyone should be given equal rights... provided you're a Christian, and a fascist. Or maybe Christian-fascist would have been a better choice of words. Aren't they one in the same these days?

If you didn't notice, I was trying to be half sarcastic. But...

Provided Playgirl isnt a privately owned company (which I can't imagine it is), then I can't imagine anyone being in support of this.
So apparently, it depends on what kind of employee she is. At will or not? Any contracts? There may be more, someone fill me in on the legalities.

And err, her political beliefs clearly didnt prevent her from doing her job prior to this, so whether or not Republicans as a whole have a "Puritanical view on sex" is completely irrelevant.
If you don't have the respect the support of your subordinates, it's going to be harder to run an office, especially one where apparently the employees have other options.

Equal rights under the government, not under a business. This is not all that different from churches that do not hire homosexuals (the controversy is slightly different there as the organizations do get government funding).

People always love seeing others get forcefed their own medicine, even if it's hypocritical.

I believe that small business owners should be able to do as they please since it's their business and they should be able to run it as they see fit. When you bring in stock holders to the table though, this type of action is completely unacceptable.

The difference of course being this isn't just some rare occasion. I constantly hear this sort of response out of the left to any situation in which a Republican or Republicans as a whole are treated in a manner they would cry foul on if it were a sexual, racial, etc. case.

If true, it'd be extremely fucked up and could not possbibly be condoned.

That said, I'm absolutely positive that she and Matt Drudge are full of shit.

OK, that isn't Charisma. I just did an image search to refresh my memory... damn. Does every actress ever to grace a screen do semi-nude photo shoots? I just lost a tiny bit of respect for her... at least I know what that tatoo is now (a sun). That's been bugging me for a while.

Hey, if the right can continue to believe that no one commits hate crimes against homosexuals, then I can continue to believe that no one gets fired because they're a Republican.

This brought up some memories of a thread long past--WHERE ARE YOU, MEIER? WHERE ARE YOU WHEN IT HAPPENS TO THE OTHER SIDE?

I believe that small business owners should be able to do as they please since it's their business and they should be able to run it as they see fit. When you bring in stock holders to the table though, this type of action is completely unacceptable.

Oh, apparently when the proletariat are involved, you have no rights.

This is almost as laughable as your "GAYS SHOULDN'T HAVE RIGHTS oh wait my brother is gay but OH WELL BUSH RULES" ideal.

1. Define stock holders
2. What is Playgirl listed under? It does not seem to be associated with Playboy.

Elaborate.

I guess I'm trying to say that it's silly these people are all right away judging her because of her political affiliatin while overlooking the fact that she's part of an industry and objectifies men and women on a daily basis.

Not really surprising behavior from a bunch of people that are for killing babies though.

Hmm... naked pictures of men or support of a group that wishes to constitutionalize discrimination?

Baby: a very young child (birth to 1 year) who has not yet begun to walk or talk; "isn't she too young to have a baby?"

Try again

So I guess Phoenix didn't really have a baby? You guys sure were quick to give out condolences for no real reason.

Typical.

It's pretty wierd to lump Playgirl/Playboy into the whole of the porn industry. Unless you do the same with mags like Maxim and Stuff. I won't bother with your second statement.

edit: Fuck you for even bringing that up.

That's pretty fucking obnoxious. Don't be stupid, and don't trample on other people to make a point.

I'm going to say this in the nicest way possible, and I hope you don't take it wrong.

I hope you die in the most painful way possible after suffering for months with nobody helping you, instead spitting on you and laughing as you rot away.
