PlayStation buys Firewalk Studios

Sony entered into a publishing agreement with Firewalk in April of 2021. This is less than a year after the release of Valorant. Two years later, Sony buys them for undisclosed money.

The game is competently made and there is a lot of potential for Firewalk, anyone writing them off based off what they've made here whether it be successful or otherwise, has a clear agenda.

Not all games are successful.

You can always tell people apart by whether they are process-oriented or results-oriented.

Will Concord likely have the result Sony hoped for? Probably not, but do they have the talent and capacity to create games that can be successful? Obviously.

You could literally have them work on a campaign mode for Marathon and most people would be happy.
Sorry buddy, but live service games don't work like that.

The game won't gain that much audience, if the beta is getting this much crap.

Where did I say the game would gain audience?
Sony won't care how good their skills is with the game, if it bombs.
I can see them closing them down, while taking talented people for other studios.

We are in no room for error mode. Keeping them as support studios won't sit down well with the top executives.

If a guy was a gamer like he says, he would have shutdown redfall and halo infinite fast.
Worst gamer if he is playing those games and is letting out for the public.
oh boy. we all make fun of Phil. but the outcome of his strategy signals that he is a true gamer. only one would've made so many retarded bunisess decisions.

I agree with him. Sometimes a game sucks but with a bunch of friends you can still extract some fun from it. But that normally applies to PVE games. Even co op can make a game like redfall somewhat entertaining for a few hours…. Concord won’t even have THAT.

I would recommend anyone planning to play Concord should consider Redfall instead.

Its a short 20 hrs campaign, doesn’t overstay its welcome, has Arkane art style that particularly suited for vampire setting.

Just make sure to play on hard with friends. Its also on gamepass so no need to fork out $40 either.

I certainly enjoyed it more than a lot of other open world games like Hogwards Legacy that go on far too long.

What time is it?

I believe in guilty pleasure games as some people love Muso titles and I have a soft spot for EDF titles and I agree that co-op can elevate just about any experience. I don't think Redfall would fit in any of these categories as it is a dreadful game and there are just too many other options to satisfy the guilty pleasure of co-op itch. I'm a bit of a gaming snob and with as many options as we have these days, I think more humans should join in my snobbery.

Do you have examples of when Sony has closed a studio they own after one bad unsuccessful game?

They didnt they stop working with one of the studios who was making a game for them, then poach the talented ones to their rank once the studio closed down?
The recent studios closure doesnt help too.

They didn't own Deviation games.

And again, can you tell me a single studio they closed down due to one unsuccessful game? If there are recent closures, that should make this an easy question right?

You're entirely unserious.

Dunno about this.

Whole bunch of generic, polished games I have played were nowhere as good as unpolished buggy games. (Skyrim, Baldurs Gate 3, Grounded etc).
This is why I said there other things too.

But if you have a single specific game, that game unpolished (half baked, buggy with many things not fine tuned enough etc) is worse than the same game very polished.

Another masterpiece, only from Hermen Hulst.
Hermen released several masterpieces as head of PS Studios even if most of the games he released -as will be the case of Concord- were greenlighted before he was head of PS Studios.

Sony started to work with Firewalk on Concord in 2018, over a year before Hermen became head of PS Studios in November 2019.

Which will be worse? Concord or that Jade Raymond Fairgame$?
I think none of them will be bad and both will get around 80 MC or more.

Some comments here...

People seem a tad too happy a newly founded studio may be about to release their first game they don't care for and it's turning into a flop.

That said...i will never understand what Sony saw on an Overwatch / Destiny mix clone to be released in 2024.

Just like AstroBot.
Team Asobi was the sole survivor of the Japan Studio masacre. Part of what made PlayStation interesting were precisely those experimental and innovative games, like Loco Roco, Patapon, Gravity Rush, and the like. Now we are límited to Gaas titles or remasters of recently released ones (TLOU1 and 2) while ignoring fan favorites like a Bloodborne remaster, or Days Gone 2.

Do you have examples of when Sony has closed a studio they own after one bad unsuccessful game?
Evolution Studios after Driveclub.

Holy fuck, this took 6 years?

For a PVP only arena shooter, what a piss take. Dev's need get off the bean bags and yoga mats and get back to crunching

Starting a studio from scratch ain't easy, they started off in done guys garage for awhile at the beginning and eventually moved into an actual building, Sony helped then grow. Their next have should be alot faster.. Concord is really fun though I'm hoping they keep at it

The first motorstorm game sold well, the second sold okay. The following entries sold poorly. All before Driveclub.

All of this on top of the racing genre being pretty diminishing in value.
I think everybody remembers under what circumstances MotorStorm Apolypse released, thats why I mentioned Driveclub as an actual failure.

i dunno why people are mocking the company, the bones of pointing and shooting and moving in the game are pretty solid, they clearly have talented technical developers.

This is very clearly a case of corporate meddling, We can't say whether the mandate came from Sony or they just hired some retard activist but it's a shame to mock the team when they clearly have people who know how to technically make a game.

I'd love to take the tech/gameplay team away from the retards at the company and get them to work on a call of duty type game or give them something to chomp that is unique.

I've said it before as well but this game clearly was something else. I can see how this was envisioned initially as a destiny style game. then it became the mess it is now over time. Much like how overwatch became a hot mess of an ambitious project titan MMO
