"Nintendo games are like indies, and worth at most $19" 🤡
Since the PS1, Playstation games have attracted me with their graphics, each new exclusive being the pinnacle of the gen, only surpassed by another game coincidentally also exclusive to the Playstation. Have times changed? Lack of competition? will there be a leveling at the lowest common denominator? What's your opinion?

If you want a step back, go play Alone in the Dark, that game looks like ass when it comes to graphics. There are probably worse looking games out there that just aren't popping in my head right now but that one is certainly not at the level of graphics PS5 offers.

Not sure how Yotei is a step back, I feel like I've missed something here.

I won't even give it the time of day because I don't want to be told I have to play as an ugly woman. I normally play as a fit woman when I can create a character, but my philosophy is no munters allowed.

Playstation WAS about graphics.

Times have changed. Ratchet and Horizon FW were the last games to push the boundaries. The rest have clearly been iterative sequels that have zero intention of pushing visual fidelity.

Xbox is dead. nintendo has literally left the console industry. They have zero reason to push the graphics to sell consoles. They are basically there to pad the profits. They are no longer needed as a marketing tool to convince others to join the PS brand.

I don't give a fuck about " high tech graphics", my issue is I didn't liked the first game so chances are I'm not going like the sequel either.

Basically same as Horizon series.

Playstation seems to be more about visuals than graphics now. Which is about the one good thing about their first party this gen.
While I'm not particularly excited for Yotei, I think it looks beautiful in motion, specially since it will probably run at a solid 60fps with decent IQ on the base Ps5

Playstation 1 was the weakest compared to N64 and arguably saturn. PS2 again the weakest against gamecube and xbox. PS3 was weaker than 360 in a lot of games. Playstation was never all about graphics. It was always about amazing games with unmatched art direction. Ghost of Yotei has amazing art direction and looks impressive.

Ghost of yotei has a massive ass seamless open world that u can explore with practically 0 loading times, phenomenal wind physics, runs at 60fps and goes above 1080p, has gorgeous art all over the place, and has phenomenal animations in terms of combat, horse riding etc. How in the hell is a game like this disappointing especially considering that sucker punch aren't a massive studio with a 900 million dollar budget. Good grief.

The art in this game is fucking incredible. Shit looks like a painting in motion.

PS3 literally got revived due to KZ2, Uncharted 2, GOW3 all of which were the best looking titles that generation taking the crown back from the 360 that started strong with Gears, Bioshock and other third party games. PS3 was ultimately defined by its boundary pushing exclusives. That led to its success in the PS4 era with an insane reveal of KZSF, DriveClub and Infamous back to back. Infamous literally fucking started the photo mode craze. The infamous E3 2015 and E3 2016 conferences that literally started the death of Xbox and sent PS4 sales to the stratosphere were all based around multiple boundry pushing graphics that were simply not on the Xbox or Nintendo.

And PS1 and PS2 were both trashing the competition because despite the hardware disadvantage, the best most boundry pushing games were PS1 and PS2 exclusives. RE2, Tekken 2, MGS, GTA3, FFX, MGS2, DMC, the list goes on and on. They didnt have to make their own exclusives because they just bought them back then. PS3 is when the Sony first party finally found its footing. before that they didnt have to invest in anything.

It looks mid graphically just like the rest of their first party releases this gen so far.

Horizon forbidden west is mid graphically???? Ghost of yotei is mid graphically??? Demon souls remake is mid graphically??? Ratchet and clank rift apart is mid graphically 'comparing it to other games in the genre'?? Astrobot is mid graphically??? Come on man.

Ghost 1 looked amazing at the release. This looks… good. Can't judge how it compares to other PS5 games, there is nothing like it, except AC Shadows which I haven't played. I just expected more and left disappointed. It was something about the shadows I think. Maybe you can tweak it with a Reshade.

Yotei is a step back from the latest Ubisoft and Unreal Engine games on a technical level... but Sony's teams are incredibly strong artistically which makes up for a lot of it.. but I think due to a combination of factors, they're not pushing much ahead from where they were until they get their engines updated to support the latest rendering techniques. They've got ballooning budgets to contend with and I think being more fiscally responsible is what's currently on the mind of a lot of their studios, considering regardless of the technical limitations, their games are still some of the best looking, high production values titles out there.

The protagonist in the game is ugly, looks like a butch, but the graphics is excellent.

DS2 graphics still wins the best graphics for this Ps5 generation.

PS3 kids seriously deserve the worst.

Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (April 28, 2001) - 14.8M

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (October 13, 2009) - 6.5M
God of War III (March 16, 2010) - 5.2M
Killzone 2 (February 26, 2009) - 2M

Sony games have never been the graphical pinnacle in ANY gen, there is always some studio or some game on PC that is technically pushing more fidelity.

Sony's strength is they have first-party studios that eek the most fidelity out of their box using clever optimization techniques, are in constant communication with the people that built the hardware itself, and then have stellar direction for that fidelity with some top-tier mo-cap since the PS4. Combo all that together, and you end up with an end product that looks the best, even if it's not pushing the most polygons.

Ghost of Tsushima and Sucker Punch in general have never pushed fidelity as high as other PS first-party studios, but honestly the art direction for the Ghost games I'd easily put above most of the other PS studios. Those landscapes in Yotei look incredible.

I've been a PS fan since PS1 and I have never considered PS as the platform of graphical superiority. That distinction would belong to PC for obvious reasons. To me, the PS platform appealed to me because generally speaking it has the widest selection of games to play in the console space.

But you're just listing good games with good art direction, not the cutting edge graphically at the time. When MGS2 released in 2001 was it better graphically/technically than Shenmue on a dreamcast? Did Tekken Tag Tournament look better than Soulcalibur or Dead or Alive 2? Not really. Those games were just good games with good art that were popular. The graphics didn't make or break them.

I don't understand how this could look any better lol. No idea what OP is talking about.

The first ghost of Tsushima came out during a pandemic, you got a good upgrade system, take on a Mongolian invasion led by Khotun Khan this and yotei will be apart of this gen's golden years I think all this nonsense will be forgotten in the future.

MGS2 literally defined an entire generation. It broke the internet. Thats all everyone talked about back in the day.

And yes, Uncharted, KZ and GOW looked better than anything on the Xbox 360.

The fuck? The most boundary-pushing games were on Xbox, and the N64 had games like OOT or Conker that couldn't even run on a PS1 lol.

RE4 had to be downgraded for the PS2.
