Probably got shifted into a big marquee release by a very desperate Sony. A bet a big chunk of the team is already working on the next full-sized project.
The problem is that if Playstation starts to reduce graphics or stagnate it, they are putting the future of the brand at risk, you know, for me to play indie-like games I don't need a Playstation. outside of the ps ecosystem everything is stagnant , everything is deja vu.
There are going to be technical improvements but people really haven't come to terms with the fact that technical jumps aren't as noticeable nowadays.you have to look at things in more detail to see differences in lighting and shaders. You had people saying HFW is barley any different from the PS4 version before, now HFW is the best example of the greatest looking PS5 game too. That tells us something regarding what people expect in terms of a jump.The game doesn't look good, doesn't look bad, nor does it look mid. It looks like a PS4 game while being a PS5 exclusive coming out late 2025. Why this is the case is the question we should be asking. The only answer i can think of is that Sony told them to begin developing the game as soon as their whole GaaS initiative began crumbling in 2023, so instead of having a 4y dev time, they only have a bit over 2y, and that's not enough to make brand new high res assets, rework lighting, etc. If the game has a decent amount of bugs, this will be another give away to tell us that they rushed the game.

I could understand if this was a fromsoft game, but not a Sony first party dev that is known to push visuals with pretty much every release. Sucker Punch weren't really entangled in the GaaS hoopla for it to effect GoT unless you consider the released Ghost of Tsushima: Legends itself as part of it.
It's not the GPUs that make the graphics, it's the budget.If I where looking good graphics, I would just play on a PC. And this has been forever.
Console were always behind the power of PC, but they were affordable, have great games and convenient to use.
I would take an awful looking game over an on rails/walk simulator limited game that just looks cool.
Yeah there are some pictures of the developers at Sucker Punch from very recent years. I don't think any creative company can withstand that influx. Eventually it just wipes it out. My opinion remain the same.. Sony "handsoff" approach got out of control and their studios got lazyyyy as fuck.

Yeah, I'm no fan of Sony decision making for the most part this generation and have been very vocal about that, but this game looks like a winner to me, just like the first Ghost game.It's on a Sony system, for a lot of people, anything from Sony (especially from PlayStation) is the devil

most PS games look beautiful and are a snoozefest to play, there are a couple exceptions tho. GoT is not one of them.

In these days of diminishing returns, people are still making this "argument" and getting 8+ updoots for it. Lmao. Is it 2006? Select "higher picture quality" on YouTube's settings and it's 98.6% the exact same thing you'll see on your tv. Apart from the lack of fine detail in the world still, if yotei doesn't improve the animation basics, it's basically a dated ps4 game.
It's not that the game isn't beautiful, its the fact that it should look way better. There should be a huge difference between GoT and GoY, it should look CGI like. A PS4 is 1.84 TFLOPS and a PS5 is ~10 TFLOPS. There should be much more geometric density and RTGI. The art direction is absolutely beautiful, but it should look CGI like with the same art direction…Lmao. This OP is indicative of why we are where we are. Sucker Punch actually produced an artistically beautiful and unique open world, and he's like "yeah but what about the puddles". In some ways we deserve the state the gaming is in right now. Between this, Switch 2 tantrums and the Ready or Not backlash, it's clear the pubs and huge chunk of the gaming audience are trying to out douche each other on a daily basis.
