PlayStation LifeStyle: Did Capcom Confirm the First Triple-Gen PS6, PS5, PS4 Game? (Mega Man: Dual Override)

Following last week's The Game Awards 2025, PlayStation fans are wondering if Capcom just announced the first "triple-gen" game for the PS6, PS5, and PS4. Mega Man: Dual Override will release sometime in 2027, and the PS6 is expected to launch at the end of that year, at the earliest.

Mega Man: Dual Override only confirmed for PS5 and PS4 so far, but PS6 version is very likely

Capcom has confirmed that Mega Man: Dual Override will launch on both PS5 and PS4, which came as a bit of a surprise. Sure, it's not a very demanding game, but 2027 will mark the PS4's 14th year in the market, so this is quite the commitment from Capcom.

For context, the last PS2 game that released in the West was 2014's Pro Evolution Soccer. The console itself released in 2000.

But things have changed since then. Video game development budgets have ballooned in size, and developers are becoming increasingly picky when it comes to investing money and resources. And for Capcom to pledge a PS4 version in 2027, with PS6 around the corner, is — again — quite the commitment.

Something wrong with the article, 2014's Pro Evolution Soccer entry (2015) wasn't released on PS2, but rather, 2013's Pro Evolution Soccer 2014, which came out just a bit before the PS4 first launched.
2013's FIFA 14 did actually come out on PS2, PS3, and PS4.

Fun fact: Capcom released Strider Hiryu for the original PlayStation on October 24, 2006 (as part of the Capcom Game Books series), less than a month before the PlayStation 3 first launched.

No, they announced it for PS4 & PS5. It wouldn't be the first game released for 3 generations of consoles, in previous times games like FIFA or Just Dance did it.

But make sure it will be BC in PS6.

No company can announce PS6 games right now.

The article only said that it would be the first PS4 to PS6 game, not that it would be the first triple generation game in general.

I can't see the PS6 coming in 27. I get a feeling this gen is gonna be longer.
Longer for what reason?
Especially when crossgen is so prominent.

Even with PSSR the PS5 Pro hardware is still limited and somewhat outdated.

I just don't understand why technology advances but us console gamers must stuck with 8+ year old hardware.

Longer for what reason?
Right now? I fear that due to the memory shortage situation.

A PS6 that would ship with as much or more memory per unit as an RTX 5090 at the current ballooning prices would force Sony to incur into launch PS3 levels of losses per unit sold, which would absolutely warrant pushing back the generation until 2028 in hopes of seeing the situation stabilize by then.

Even if the PS6 comes out when this does. What benefit would a ps6 version bring?

We had lots of lowspec games only get PS4 versions the first couple of years of the ps5. games that aren't remotely demanding so the BC version is just fine.

Doubt they'll do a native ps6 version.

The PS4 was such a success. Cool to see it still get support on games where it makes sense. I wonder if Dual Override will release on Switch 1 as well.

I like the intention but you have to let go of the past, cod doesn't quite feel as good or dynamic as battlefield, it's a lot of the same from generations ago.

Nintendo has been selling Super Mario Bros 3 on every Nintendo console, until they recently decided to only rent it out on Nintendo online.

In 2028 the cost of RAM would be even higher.

Here for example is AMD/OpenAI multi-year agreement.
AMD and OpenAI announce strategic partnership to deploy 6 gigawatts of AMD GPUs
  • OpenAI to deploy 6 gigawatts of AMD GPUs based on a multi-year, multi-generation agreement
  • Initial 1 gigawatt OpenAI deployment of AMD Instinct™ MI450 Series GPUs starting in 2H 2026
6 gigawatts is a crazy amount of GPUs.
~6 million GPUs and due to the complexity of MI450, 6 million GPUs could take 6+ years. Not to mention a single MI450 has 432 GB of HBM.

Then when you add Nvidia numbers, it gets even crazier.

There is not much of a reason to delay the PS6. The longer Sony waits, the worse it gets.
