PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | March 2014

Anybody want to talk me into or out of getting a Vita? I've got a little bit of extra cash right now, and they seem really neat, but I am worried I won't use it at all and it will just sit in a drawer somewhere like my PSP while I continue to just game on ps3 and ps4. How does it compare to PSP?

In the end is your choice. Look at the games, are enough that interest you? Would you benefit for those "cross" features? Do you have PS+? Do you like indies, japanese games or both? Do you have any interest in the PSP and PS1 catalog on PSN? Would you use Remote Play?

Those are some nice questions you should answer before deciding if you should jump or not. If you want anything VitaGAF is in this thread :)

What kind of shill are you that you can't even do your job properly?

First you try to steal Killa it's place at the top of the wall of shame. Now you try to steal ZeroAKA's place as the Project Diva stalker. Who are you and what do you want from us!?

You don't really need it, at least so early in the game. Only when you've seen as much as you can in all routes and are stuck, do you need a guide.
The game can progressed by going through ANY of the paths in the game.

That's completely unnecessary and would only really hurt the experience.

Indeed, I should have mentioned it! My bad.

I started using it after four or five endings/locks because I wanted to progress on the story asap ;p

Well, as somebody who has a terrible habit of buying handheld consoles and then almost NEVER using them (I'm talking Game Gear, every model of Game Boy, DS and PSP), I love my Vita.

Up until recently I never had a tablet or smartphone, so maybe that's part of the charm, but it's nice waking up, checking FB/Twitter/e-mail with it. Battery life is great, and I really like the indie releases. I'd be perfectly happy with the thing if it's a few more years of strictly indie titles. I can't really comment on remote play. I mean, it seems to work well but I've yet to be really hooked on any PS4 games to the point of playing them in bed. Lack of L2/R2 may or may not be a big issue.

You can't come in this thread and expect people to talk you out of the Vita. This is VitaGAF territory after all.

First, the Vita is really getting its stride this year and have a lot of releases coming up month after month. If you already own a 3DS, it will feel slightly barren this year after all the awesome releases back to back last year so now is the best chance to get a Vita.

If you don't already own a gaming PC, then chances are you haven't experience some of the best indie games that the industry has made. Particularly, Hotline Miami, Spelunky, Guacamelee and much much more. All these with the dash of portability and with the suspend function of the Vita, its a perfect fit for those pick up and play type of games.

If you have an interest in Japanese games then this is also the platform for you. We have been getting back to back releases of Japanese games that caters to every niche there is. Plus all the awesomeness of Persona 4 Golden could only be experienced in this gem of a device. Add in almost all the catalog of PS1 and PSP RPGs and such and you have one of the best if not the best RPG gaming machine and more.

PS Mobile also has very interesting games for such a low low price or even free. Games such as Super Crate Box, Cytus Lambda, A_B Labrynth and not to mention VitaBounce can be a great experience.

On the first party, although inadequate for some, features some of the best the industry has to offer. Titles such as Tearaway, Gravity Rush, Uncharted GA, Killzone: Mercenaries and Wipeout 2048 features some of the most unique and best ways to play a game.

With you having a PS3 and PS4 its a no brainer to get a PS Vita because it fits in Sony's ecosystem and let's you play and appreciate the amount of games PS+ has to offer. With the PS Vita you are getting an additional 2 games every month for free. Not to mention the awesomeness of PSN sales that the Vita frequently receives. Add in that sweet, sweet remote play and you have a recipe for happiness.

I could say more but I think this is adequate enough.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I think I am going to go to Best Buy and pick up a Vita tomorrow. I have PS+ already and a PS4 so it kind of seems like a no brainer. Anything I should get with it? Is the Wi-Fi only model cheaper and does it have any disadvantages besides no 3g?(I have a smartphone for that stuff)

Cannot wait for InFamous.

I was waiting for a decent price for TR:DE, but I guess I can go with free and lesser grayfix.

Big memory card is the only thing you need and let the rest to PS+ and the WiFi doesn't have any disadvatages compared to the 3G model

TR PS4 was a solid 7/10 I thought

Now Uncharted Golden Abyss, THATS a bad game.

No, Tomb Raider was no 7/10. The AI was awful, the characters were awful, the story was awful, the qte were awful, and the shooting was boring as hell. One of the worst games I played in 2013. Uncharted games always have likable characters, and the qte were better than those in Tomb Raider.

I liked Tomb Raider more than all of the Uncharted Games. Definitive Edition on PS4 is absolutely gorgeous too. Really had a blast with this game.

I thought the shooting was pretty fun, but I used the bow for like 90% of the game. So satisfying picking everyone in the face with the bow.

I played Uncharted GA and TR:DE around the same time and I'm just so glad there was no touchpad swiping QTEs in TR. Janky shooting, awful touch gimmicks, awful boss fights and overall poor graphics in GA made me not really enjoy it at all. Tomb Raider felt like a better Uncharted game tbh.

The game does look really great. But I didn't like anything else about the game

I got bored of the shooting really fast. Just waves of the same enemies over and over. It's like they took everything that isn't good about uncharted and made a game out of it.

Also, I agree, the touch QTEs are awful in Golden Abyss. I was happy with the graphics though. They're not amazing, but they're good

I'd much rather deal with the awful button-pressing QTEs in Tomb Raider than the awful gimmicky touchscreen and gyroscope crap in Uncharted Golden Abyss. U:GA was the first Uncharted game I played and made me not want to play another Uncharted game. Tomb Raider actually made me curious about Uncharted again.

PSP>Vita. That being said, the vita is a 2 year old device, and a lot of the really good stuff for psp came several years in. It's got some good titles exclusive to it(Soul Sac, gravity Rush etc.), and is a good intersection of a lot of stuff that you'd need to own several different devices to own all of. PS+ is awesome.

Like I said, I'm not defending those QTEs in Golden Abyss. The game would have been much better without them

Having just purchased a Vita a few days ago (extremely happy I did), I will say if you have bigger hands, you will definitely want some sort of grips/triggers for it. Without it, it's a bit uncomfortable to play (for me at least) and trigger grips fixed that completely.

Also, maybe screen protectors for the front/back touch screens and if you plan to travel with it, a case (still on my list to purchase).

I feel like I should play my PS3 more often, I've neglected it severely.

I'm worse than you. Haven't opened my PS3 in 3 weeks ever since I got Danganronpa. I purchased Ni No Kuni in the latest sale but I have no motivation to play it. Maybe if I can get a full HD TV or monitor, I'll change my mind. But for now, it's lying in the corner, gathering dust.

Same, My Vita gets at least 2-3 hours of play time a day, while my PS3 gathers dust. I dont even use it for Netflix anymore.

I always get the free games from PS+ but the only thing I want to play when I turn on the PS3 is GOD HAND :P

Sony shill #8

You're doing a terrible job. Now let me handle the Miku shilling, thanks.

I'm surprised you're still playing rayman legends. After I finished the main levels I never bothered with it again

I saved all the Back to Origins levels for last, so once I finished the main game and didn't have to deal with Murfy anymore, it was more like classic Rayman...

And now that I'm sooooo close to platinum, I'm going to have to stick with it to try to get that stupid effin' online trophy.

Tomb Raider > Uncharted
;)

In March, my money is just going to inFAMOUS and MGS5: Ground Zeroes. I just wonder when MGS5: GZ will be available for pre-order on PSN.

inFamous is definitely getting my money in March...But a sale for Ys or Batman Blackgate could definitely sway me to go down on those as well.

you guys should start begging for a better game, seriously.

Hard Corps Uprising is a far, far better game and was also given away free on PS+, beg for that instead. Dead Nation is so bleh

Ooo? I honestly didn't know... is it that bad?

Zombies + Twin Stick Shooter + Coop sounds like my idea of fun, but is it that bad?

no don't get me wrong, Dead Nation is far from a bad game. But it's not good either. It's simply just another average twin stick shooter. I enjoyed it enough to beat it, but I don't think it's good enough to download even for free and with a 1080p upgrade.

just sayin... there's a lot of better games we could be asking for from Sony then a Dead Nation Vita port, and honestly it would be kinda crappy on such a small screen. The game can get hectic at times.

I'm pretty stoked for Master Reboot. Seems like a really unique take on horror, especially with that art style. Anyone here play the PC version?

Edit: Also, all of this talk of ports is ridiculous. First we need a goddamn Locoroco game.

So I have started playing Tearaway and I was just thinking when playing. How the fuck did this game not sell well? This is one of the best platformers I've played in years. This is also one of the most creative and charming game in years. For some reason, it brings me back to PS1/N64 platformer era, even though it's not quite like those games. What an amazing game.

Sony really struck gold getting these guys. They're definitely in the top tier and in the same league as Polyphony Digital, Naughty Dog, & Santa Monica Studios. They also just became part of the select, studio group that will get my money day 1 on any game they make, no matter how I may feel about it. And yes, I absolutely adored LBP2. I'd say they're definitely the studio that covers charming, platformer and of all ages under Sony's WWS.

God damn at the sales though. :'(

They released the game in the middle of the COD buying season. I think they released this against Xbox One(?) in Europe plus SCEA left it faster than someone running from a zombie.
In addition this game was released against Super Mario 3D World and A Zelda game so fans of platformers would be pretty much divided on what they will get. And all of them got either Knack or SM3DW.

Nah, you'll have fun with it. Lotta people are hard on it and super picky, but the game was cool to me. They couldda slapped the Resident Evil license on it and threw in some series creatures, and it would've been one helluva spin-off.

That's something I can really get behind.

Locoroco is a match made in Heaven for Vita with it's gyros and screen that makes colours simply pop. It beggars belief that this and Patapon are left by the wayside.

It didn't sell because ... Vita. :lol
