PlayStation Plus is increasing its pricing globally starting September 6th

Hmm... I've barely used my PS+ Extra sub this year, probably finished around 3 games and tried another 2. As for the online functionality I haven't even used it once lol... I had doubts renewing my sub next year when it's supposed to expire, but now Jimbo & co just made the decision to not renew my PS+ very straight forward.

Anyway, fuck Sony and fuck their shitty gaming subs.

it's because off corporate ass lickers like these clowns that these fuckers keep on fucking us over
defending a 30% increase when groceries and fuel cost what they do these days and for what? FOR WHAT? AAA games are still 70 dollars and STILL full of microtransactions, unfinished buggy messes
im this close of being done with this indusrty

No one is "fucking us over."

You can just not buy it and it's not a big deal. It's not insulin, man.

I mean I get it. Starfield release is imminent, and Sony wants to recoup some of the development/marketing cost for the massive game. Oh wait, that's the other subscription service never mind. Sony, what are you doing baby?

This is most strange considering PS+ subscriptions have been flat for a number of quarters now. All I can see is them going down in the next quarters.

I have 10 months left and then I'm out. I rarely play online, same with Essential games since I already own a lot of the cool ones they include in the sub. The only good reason would be to keep my saves in the cloud, but that's not enough.

I understand if people don't want Extra or Premium but the selection isn't bad at all. Even the PS3 streaming, yea they're locked to 720p but the games play fine and there's a lot of gems in there.

Lots of misery going on here when you should be playing games you enjoy playing.

No you don't need everything those companys give to you. This price raise isn't reasonable and if its gets pushed big enough they might have to drop it.

But even if they will improve this is the biggest problem with modern sony. If you do a price increase like that give people something to look forward. Something like every sony gaas games will drop day one on ps extra. This aint it.

Lol, meltdown alert. Relax! I would never, ever subscribe to that service. Paying for basic ass functionality like online play and cloud saves is already a scam. I'm a Sony corporate ass lickers in one thread, an Xbox fanboy getting his post removed in another thread. No, I'm just being fucking reasonable. What a day, what a day.

In before good guy ms announces they won’t further increase their prices just to do it a year later.

This price increase sucks. Time to stack up.

PS plus isn't the only one he is talking about here if the obvious needed to be said.

Best deal in gaming keeps delivering. Only negative thing I can say is that they should have thrown in goodbye volcano high after the price hike.

Why not. They're in the Apple league of doing whatever they want with prices and not lose a single customer over it.
At that point, is it the company's fault for talking advantage of spineless consumers or the consumers fault for bending over and taking it? The world will never know.

LOL, it's literally his fiduciary (read: legal) obligation to maximize the profit for Sony's shareholders. The same is true for Phil Spencer and Doug Bowser. And literally every CEO anywhere.

I love how this board rips on REEEE, but as soon as someone does capitalism, it becomes purple, and it's "fuck this, fuck that," instead of, "Hmm, I guess it's not a good value proposition for me anymore."

I generally think people, including myself know that...doesnt mean we have the "we"ll take it up the ass" any attitude. Jim is the face and leadership of SIE and as such he's going to take the brunt of all blows about decisions effecting consumers just as he may get praise from consumers and investors alike.

Only time will tell if his leadership is good for Sony, investors, gamers and the gaming sector as a whole.

It might lead to more games, none of us know for sure at this point.

I agree though, Sony is being pretty lame this gen but I've been gaming on the outskirts of hype for years now and I honestly don't have many complaints when it comes to the PS+ Premium selection and what Sony offers. Biggest issue for me is their weird non-stance on VR but at the same time, 3rd parties are delivering the goods so I really don't give much thought to what 1st parties are doing because those games simply don't interest me much at all.

It is what it is.

It's a huge deal, if online play wasn't locked behind PS+ i'd be with you, but it's not the case.

80$ just to play Online is fucking extremely dumb.

They really need to offer a online play only sub, but they know they got all the COD and FIFA players by the balls for at least $80 a year.

Yeah the problem is that Phil considers 2023 to be 4 big games already (Hi Fi, Redfall, Starfield, Forza)

Out of the 4, only Starfield has my interest. Hi fi rush was ok but I’d probably wait for a deep discount on that otherwise

Don’t care about Redfall or Forza

Yeah subs ain’t my thing dawg, not at these increasing prices
Forza is big for me, love racing. But I play Starfield on PC and Steam so not taking advantage of the sub there. Might go with Steam version on Forza too if a VR mod would arrive.

I’ve enjoyed some smaller titles though, I like FIST and Loop Hero, Sea of Stars seems nice and Lies of P too.

Problem is I’m going goodbye real world through Starfield in 2 days so who knows when I’ll have time for anything else, third party games come and go and might’ve already dropped out when I exit the bubble. Monthly payments for subscription libraries just isn’t right for me right now and higher prices don’t help.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
They really need to de-couple Classics from Premium, or at least let people buy them, cause now anyone who wants to play PS1/PSP or even cloud-PS3 stream games will need to pay $160 annual.

They will probably start adding more new first party games at a quicker rate. That's the only reason that would make sense for why they increased the price by so much.

I was thinking that as well but it couldn't have hurt them to announce future plans for more value to the service to, y'know, ease the blow of the price increase news. Although I don't see any 1P AAA games being Day 1, maybe they'll hit the service six months later? Still think that's a bad proposition and could eat into B2P sales revenue but, hey, I'm not running SIE so that's little of my own business.

Did think that they could add more 1P AA games Day 1 to the service; problem is Sony doesn't have any internal studios making AA games. Not really, anyway. Maybe they are working on some with 3P through XDEV but since they haven't openly talked about any future software plans 1P-wise post-Spiderman 2 aside from GaaS titles, then we can't even say that is a certainty.

I guess a new showcase will be announce soon? Everytime sony drop a bad news they announce a good news few days later.

Not saying this is OK by any means thought

Honestly would not get my hopes up if I were you. The messaging/communication from PlayStation for the past few months, when it isn't about fiscal results or new hardware, has been mediocre. Even the rollout of info for Spiderman 2 feels a bit muted compared to, say, HFW, but I think the general lackluster atmosphere of late contributes to that. Doesn't say anything of the game itself, obviously.

I'm expecting no additional Showcase, no State of Play, maybe a half-measured TGS appearance and a couple of trailer dumps for the VGAs...one of which will be yet another PC port announcement. Or maybe they'll do that at TGS instead? In terms of messaging/communication Sony really are on cruise control for PS5 ATM, and it feels like it's been that way for some months already.

At least, in my opinion.

What??? $80 just for cloud saves?? I rarely even play online. This is insane...what is Sony thinking?
It's hard to blame Sony for these this price hikes when a good portion of the replies on this thread read along the lines of; "Everything is going up in price, Sony has to pay bills too. I'm subbed for the next 20 years anyway".

Should come as no surprise, Jim is about that bottom line. Think mine is up in December and looks like i wont be renewing. I always stacked about 2 years during black friday in the U.S., but they got rid of that two. Ive probably played....3 PS plus games of the last 5 years. Mainly have it for only play, but rarely play online games anymore either.

Honestly hope shit starts to tank at Sony. They seems to slowing be going back to their overpriced arrogant selves.

Cant think of all of the shitty things this gen, but to name a few

- Ending sales of PSN cards at retailers
- PS Plus price increases
-Not allowing redownload of some PS1 classics tou bought on PS3
- $550 wired VR,
-PS5 price increase in some countries
-$70 games (though have look and play like PS4 games)
- 3+ years of cross gen games
- Digital Code collectors editions (not sure if started this gen)
-PS Portal
- Even slower 1st party releases (outsode Insomniac).
-Trickling of news and shitty showcases
-GAAS focus

...im sure there are more shitty things
Oh boy, there's quite a few more. Here are my "favorites":
- Disabling save backups for PS5 games for "security reasons" (still works for PS4 though)
- Locking Dualshock support for PS5 games
- Re-releasing the same first party games as director's cuts / remakes or charging people for nextgen upgrades
- Insane pricing on their own 'elite' controller with an ever worse battery than OG
- PSVR2 not backwards compatible with PSVR1

Can’t stand sub services, fucking trash. I stacked in 2020 for 6 years at $40 cad and it converted to premium. I was debating doing 10 years cause i know how sub services work. What a big goof up. Whatever I’m going old and rarely play online anymore. I’ll just not resub once it lapses. Just give me. $10-20 a year option for cloud saves.

These are the hidden cost of having a console. To need to pay for stuff which are free on PC, like online play. For a interval of 6-7 years, from cost pov, a PC might be cheaper.
