Probably a skip for me dawg. The last SOP wasn't bad at all, but I'm just worried there will be too many PC ports and GAAS present. Sony's messaging regarding the PS ecosystem has become increasingly muddy for a while now; hopefully this presentation they have later today will provide clarity on future direction for the remainder of PS5 gen.
Also just the energy & hype for these shows in general has dwindled significantly for me. It feels like everyone's in their own little bubbles; I miss events like E3 because while they were mostly for business, you could tell companies pushed to bring their best to show off. That type of environment helped foster some sense of competition, which made for a better event for us gamers. At the very least, even if certain conferences were lukewarm, we got some awesome meme-worthy moments. It was also nice to see industry figures live, in-person, discussing their products & work.
The events now feel disconnected and often, impersonal. Like yeah E3 was ultimately about trying to upsell people on a product to buy, but it still had a festive energy to it. That's been missing from almost all of these digital-only presentations the past couple of years. I'd say last year's SGF was the worst offender, but last year's PS Showcase wasn't too far behind. Meanwhile the last Xbox Showcase was mostly smoke & mirrors that didn't amount to much, and the VGAs are the VGAs: a weird mashup of a b-rate Oscars, disconnected trailer reveals, and bombardment of xCloud Game Pass ads.
I'll still look forward to any good announcements or reveals out of this SOP, though.
