Playstation February 2025 State of Play Predictions

I expect something bad out it because State of Play is almost aways dissapointing. And since we're talking modern Sony here, they gonna start with more remasters and ports to PC, maybe a sneak peak at soy Wolverine and let the best to the end: 2 Horizon MMO games.

Ghost of Yotei is mostly what I am looking forward to right now. Really enjoyed Ghost of Tsushima. Anything more than that will be a bonus. More Resident Evil (not the FPS ones) is also something I would like to see announced soon. Perhaps an uncut version fo RE3. :D

I can't think of single game from Sony's internal team I should be excited about. (unless Team Asobi announce new game)

I'm more excited for upcoming 3rd party games.

Clear

CliffyB's Cock Holster
DS2, Yotei & Wolverine. Phantom Blade Zero as a side-bet bonus exclusive. Plus a couple of Live service efforts.

6 games, 12 months, rest is catalogue titles and future announcements... and of course working around heavy hitting third party exclusives like GTA.

This idea that any platform holder should be promoting a larger roster than this in any calendar year is just clueless.

There's literally no point to doing it.

Objectively the size of the addressable market is a known quantity. Its not going to grow dramatically even were amazing titles to be delivered weekly.
Expansion out, involves PC and mobile. The former is a bear market, and extraordinarily hard to predict. The latter requires very specific product.

The only rational approach in a landscape like this is profit maximization per title. Which means fewer launches but harder pushes in terms of marketing and cross-media exposure to give them "hot" starts. Long-tail monetization can be used to extend the earning period should the "hot" period match or exceed expectations, while under-performers will receive limited support or be cut dead sharply in order to minimize bleed.

I think Sony right now lacks fan engagement, they are not listening. Hulst and this western Sony leaders is putting PS brand at risk with those recent GAAS focus, DEI initiative and woke, and keep on porting exclusives to other platforms. Hopefully this show will be different, back to the old Sony PS we loved.

Brand engagement doesn’t matter

The sales speak for themselves.

It’s not as fun as a fan, but it’s part of a maturing industry.

Imagine having Xbox studios filling your game quota because you fucked up first party production ... twilight fcking zone
With what? DOOM and a Ninja Gaiden that is as much of a MS game as all those games you guys said over and over that are not first-party are SIE games?

There was a 4.5 year period between GT Sport and GT7, I can see a longer dev cycle between GT7 and 8.
It was even less than that (4 years and 3 months) and you need to consider pandemic delays as it was originally slated for 2021.
2026 for Gran Turismo 8 is perfectly reasonable.

Would love to see a Legend of Dragoon sequel. Less emphasis on remasters and more on non-recent IP. No MMOs please. For the love of all that’s holy, no more Horizon for a while. It’s the Nickleback of gaming.

I just don't see much reason for that to be the case, but we'll both see.
There's much reason for it, larger PS5 install base + new PS6 owners looking to play new games. A superior version of GT8 on PS6 launch would be insane.

Gran Turismo 8 should be a TGS time announcement and a fall 2026 release, IMO.
Not in this gen. Gt7 is still amazing and superior to other racing games right now. I'm still playing the game right now, and updates keeps on coming. I'm sure Gt8 will be a Ps6 launch game 4 years from now.

If the game is ready then it will just be released. Again, I just don't see Sony envisioning almost 6 years of development planning for Gran Turismo 8.

I don't know what's crazier, you thinking that the PS6 will launch in 2029, or that GT8 will last 7 years of development.

Its not so crazy when we're taking about PD remember delaying games is in there nature.

Lets not forget how long gt5 took and the fact gt6 was a ps3 when the ps4 released.

Here is a good video on PD delays.

Gran Turismo 5 was from a time when Polyphony Digital was having a VERY hard time adapting to HD development on PS3. Those days are long gone now.
BTW, Gran Turismo 6 (December 5, 2013) came out before PS4 launch in Japan (February 22, 2014), which actually parallels the time frame between Gran Turismo 2 (December 11, 1999) and PS2 launch in Japan (March 4, 2000).

The ps4 release in November in NA so it was before GT6 come out.

Which its my point there should had been a ps4 version of GT6.

Well, as I said, applying their same development reality from over a decade ago to these days doesn't make much sense.
But even if you did, it would actually reinforce the point that Gran Turismo 8 is targeting the current gen console (PlayStation 5) first and foremost.

I know it could be a GT6 situation where gt8 comes at the end of ps5 and its a ps5 game.

But then again its PD so it could also be a ps5/ps6 cross gen game we'll just have to wait and see.

There is only one thing that would make my old charcoal heart beat…

Honestly, the look and feel of Chrono Trigger still has not been matched (in my opinion). I would love a new JRPG with great 2D artwork but better mechanics than Sea of Stars
It's not just Chrono Trigger. There's a lot of SNES games that haven't been matched or continued and improved.
Playing ALttP it's easy to see flaws and imagine what an improved logical 2D sequel would be. We still haven't gotten that.
The same thing goes for PS2 games. PS3 games have better specs but totally lack the PS2's look and aesthetic.
There's an alternate universe for both Nintendo and PS that's currently been stalled for decades in our reality.
Gaming there's radically different now because of two things:
Instead of rushing to 3d and losing their entire look, Nintendo doubled down on the SNES HW and perfected it along with SNES games.
Instead of rushing to HD and losing their entire look, PS doubled down on the PS2 and perfected it along with PS2 games.
