Playstation February 2025 State of Play Predictions

Anything that Sony is working on themselves is meh, if there's anything interesting I'd buy for cheap at a Steam sale.

But SoP always have some interesting announcements from other third parties. I'd love seeing Pragmata resurface, although I don't know if Capcom wants to do that so close to MH.

State of Plays are always focused around upcoming games with a few possible surprises/twists.

So first of all I expect promotion for upcoming games like Monster Hunter Wilds, the new Yakuza pirate game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
It's also really likely that Indiana Jones will get an official March/April release date.
It's also time for a new Death Stranding 2 trailer with a release window.
This is what I consider safe to expect.

About other possible stuff...too soon imo for a new Ghost of Yotei trailer given it was introduced last September.
It's also hard to tell what else Sony feels confident to announce at this stage. Marathon and Fairgames should get updates relatively soon although Bungie tends to announce their stuff independently.
Other projects that could be announced soon are the Firesprite horror game (likely Until Dawn 2), the Horizon multiplayer game and the rumored Days Gone remake/remaster.
Sony also has a few partnership games like Lost Soul Aside to promote.
Insiders claimed there are a few surprises coming this year on top of DS2 and Ghost so who knows, there could be more second party developed games they have to announce.

About third parties Capcom should be close to announce RE9, Judas should be close to release, MGS Delta should also get a release date soon.

Can't wait for them to reveal the Xenogears 2DHD remake with fully realised second half of the game and new music from Mitsuda.

What I want:

"Hello PS fans all over the world. We apologise for the shitty generation so far. We have heard you loud and clear. Here are our announcements:
-Herman is fired.
-Every gaas project is stopped.
-Dei/woke is finished.
-We return to our roots with kick ass single player games. Here are some awesome trailers.
-We stop the retarded PC porting as we do not want to devalue our games and risk our console business. As of today we remove our catalogue from Steam.
-Released today: GOW greek saga (zero censorship) and Bloodborne remaster with a teaser for Bloodborne 2"

I am hoping for:

Death Stranding 2, Phantom Blade Zero and Ghost of Yotei release dates.

Some gameplay from Intergalactic.

A trailer from whatever Team Ninja is working on.

I think they need to show their own studios' planned output for the year, like gameplay of Wolverine, GoY and a couple of new announcements. Probably a release date for Indy, DS2 and one more trailer of Monster Hunter. And Days Gone remaster, if that thing is still real.

Not expecting an update on Intergalactic till summer.

Monster Hunter Wilds depending on when the SoP is.
DS 2
Maybe something from MS since they've essentially gone third party now, such as Indy.

Death stranding 2 release date would be amazing with a clear message of its exclusivity period.

Then some megaton. New ip from Cory. Something.

Maybe a sequel to returnal or their new game.

Just basically some great single player stuff that's not just sequels.

Gameplay of that intergalactic would be nice.

Astro Bot pc launch date so I can double dip and the modding community can make levels.
Why not? Is your expectations that low?

I don't think anything I've posted is too unreasonable from the sleeping giant.

DS2 - Possible to see a date or release window of some kind. Usually AAA games have their own segment during an SoP (eg. Ghost of Tsushima), but I think it's worthy to reveal gameplay at a showcase (if Sony still plans to do those).

Cory - I don't expect it personally. Maybe at a showcase.

Returnal

Intergalactic Gameplay - I would expect this at an actual showcase, not at a low rate SoP

Astrobot PC - Not unlikely to see a PC date. Something you could see at an SoP.

I'm hoping to see Uncharted 5 with Drake's daughter who transitions to Drake's son during the course of the game. We learn the trials and tribulations of transitioning and how regretful Nathan Drake is for invading indigenous lands and pillaging their goods. Elena also comes out as non-binary for a mid-point twist.

There
We usually get a February state of play, so I'm curious what people expect for this year.

Expectations:
  • Something new to see from either Death Stranding 2 or Ghost of Yotei. It's been 1 year since DS2's last trailer, and nearly 6 months for Ghost of Yotei. I'm not expecting both, but it would be nice to see at least one of them show up. I fear that some of them are coming in so hot they don't want to show anything off until maybe June.
  • The rollout of information regarding Marathon is strange, they gave us an update a few months ago but it's hard to know if it's still a ways off from being shown. It's possible, although I'm more doubtful we'll see anything since it sounds like the art assets still aren't finalized.
  • Horizon MMO - this game has been in development for ages and job listings show it's ready to ship pretty soon (this year). Seems like they're going to have to push this game out to the market, regardless of how well it does. Hopefully not another Concord situation and the game is more appealing with some interesting hooks.
  • Some third party announcements of course, I am not sure if I expect to see a new Resident Evil trailer until June, so I'm guessing we'll get more lower-key announcements from third party partnerships.
  • Indiana Jones Spring Release date + Pro enhancements + Pre-Orders

Wishlist:
  • I've been hoping on this one for ages, but how about AstroBot Rescue Mission for PSVR2 and also available on PC? VR is too niche and this game is way too good to have it limited to PSVR1 only. It's insane that it's not yet ported. I understand the team has been busy with Astro Bot, but they've probably had quite a few months to develop a port. Shouldn't be difficult. This is low hanging fruit for PSVR2 and the broader VR community.
  • A few stellar-blade type surprise partnerships would be nice on that scale, but I'm skeptical we'll see anything like that this year.
Expectations are for a decent State of Play showing, but again this isn't an E3 replacement and Sony continues to hold many cards close to their chest. I'm not expecting anything from beyond 2025 (Wolverine, Intergalactic, etc). So it will mostly be a show that has games we already know about.
There where rumours that the Horizon MMORPG is canceled....but a quick Google search is saying that there where 2 Horizon MMORPG's in production, one by ncsoft from South Korea that would be a mobile version and one by Guerrila. First it was sayd that the ncsoft, was canceled...but now its not canceled.
Its confusing as Hell but aparantly theyr will be still 2 versions in production, one from Guerilla and one from ncsoft for mobile...the rumormill is full force at it again🤗

Stuff I think pretty likely will be in the next SoP:
  • Death Stranding 2: not long ago Kojima was editing video stuff, and if it gets released this year they may show it soon again. I think it's likely to show gameplay reveal
  • Midnight Murder Club: pretty likely to be shown in the next SoP
  • Convallaria and Lost Soul Aside: pretty likely to see them in the next SoP
  • MLB The Show 2025: likely to be shown there, maybe this time also for PC
  • Spider-Man 2 PC + TLOU2 PC: very likely to be shown in the next SoP
  • Monster Hunter Wilds: pretty likely to be shown in the next SoP
  • Assassin's Creed Shadows: likely to be shown in the next SoP
  • A few random indies: Little Devil Inside release date maybe?
  • A handful PSVR games: likely to be in the next SoP
Stuff I think won't be there:
  • Ghost of Yotei: releases this year, may show a gameplay reveal but may keep it for later
  • Venom announcement: we don't know if it was greenlighted, and if it was the case we don't know if it's release will be 2025 or 2027 since both appeared in different roadmaps. If releases in 2025, I think it could be revealed here, but I'd bet more that they'd keep it for their May/June event
  • Marathon: in their update video said they'll share more about the game mid 2025, so don't expect to see it during Q1. I think will be in their late Spring/early Summer E3-ish event
  • Horizon Online and Cory's new IP: low chances to see it here, I think is more likely to see them announced in their May/June event
  • Fairgame$: I think they will take their time tweaking it before they show it again making sure it doesn't end being another Concord, I wouldn't expect to see it this year
  • Wolverine: I think they'll wait for their May/June event where they'd show a cutscenes trailer. Or even more likely they may wait for next year
  • Astro Bot DLC: likely to see it announced, maybe a new small batch of stages. Maybe they keep them instead to be announced later as part of a bigger paid DLC
  • Intergallactic: I think very likely will wait for a year or more to show more, and if smart and try to learn from Destruction AllStars, Forspoken, Concord, Dragon Age Wokeguard etc., they should redesign the character to make it more appealing (drop the DEI/woke censorship checklists, make her attractive and femenine) and/or to highly remove her protagonism giving the protagonism instead to more instead to more likable characters (attractive people, man looking males, female looking females, charismatic people, don't avoid males/white/heterosexual people and don't keep them just for the bad/dumb/weak guys)

Would like to see some official Wolverine coverage, since the leaks didn't really do it any favours. Other than that, RE9 would be nice. Not expecting much.

And the fans celebrating it like its a gotcha instead of demanding more from Sony.

It's a slippery slope.
The only terrible mistakes this generation were putting Naughty Dog on GAAS and making Bend a support studio after Days Gone. At least ND is a big enough studio to still be developing Intergalactic the entire generation

As long as Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica, Insomniac, and Sucker Punch are developing single player games, I'll be OK as a Playstation owner. It's not like Sony was releasing more than 1 or sometimes 2 AAA games per year during the PS4 generation. The output isn't that different

The biggest reason this generation sucks is the lack of new IP. SM2, HFW, GOWR were all decent sequels, but they didn't evolve much from their previous game. And 2 of the 3 were cross gen
