Lets be real. The PS5 unveil is either happening in the next 5 weeks (since third party will be showing games) or it wont happen til August (after Ghost of Tsushima). I can see both PR angles. BUt I am leaning towards soon so it does not put third parties in an akward position when presenting their games. No one wants to "no comment at this time" on obvious as fuck questions.

Why all this secrecy? Why not come out like Microsoft did with the series X? Be transparent. We know the console is coming so why try hide things? It's not like i'm NOT going to buy the fucking thing because I saw the console in January instead of June/July/August.... Show some god damned games and get us excited for SOMETHING this year!

They will be transparent when they reveal the information to us.

Maybe they don't want to overshadow TLOU2 rising the hype too much before the game is released. I think they had planned to release the game before showing another ones that may look way better in order to maximize TLOU2 sales. They may prefer to have everyone talking about the game and after everybody bought it, then to release the PS5 stuff to maximize next gen hype.

Maybe that was their early plan, but the game got delayed a couple times. That last one messed things further because affects both the release of the game and the PS5 marketing campaign plans. So who knows, maybe they change their plans and reveal the PS5 stuff -or at least part of it- before releasing TLOU2.

Other than that, they may prefer to wait as long as possible to make sure the game stuff they show is as close as possible to the final games, in order to avoid downgrade controversies/conspiracy theories. When a game is shown too early, later sometimes things are changed or cut to have it running on final hardware which isn't available until almost the release. Many things that in early stages sound good on paper later in the road raise issues, so it is better to show games when they are almost complete because general players don't understand this things, specially fanboys of the other platorms who only want to spread FUD.

Maybe they go for a mixed path: in these 5 weeks they may announce the box, secondary hardware specs and OS features (bluetooth version, how BC and resuming on-hold games works in PS5, etc) in addition to low profile launch window games and some good 3rd party PS5 title that is going to announce anyways (3rd party stuff they already had planned for E3).

Then they focus on marketing TLOU2 and Tsushima release while keeping the PS5 marketing on hold.

And then after Tsushima, in August, Sony announces the big PS5 launch window exclusive games, console price, release date day, open preorders and announce the list of release day games.

Totally possible. But even in that scenario Sony has to tip most of their hand soonish. WWS/BluePoint games can wait til after GoT since we will see multiplats in late may. early june.
