Does no one else care about the super long load times?

I can get over the light weight cheap feeling but not the load times.

Somebody tell me if every game is as bad as demos at game stop?

My PlayStation Vita WiFi is on the way alongside Uncharted: Golden Abyss, WipEout 2048, ModNation Racers: Roadtrip, Everybody's Golf, Little Deviants, Reality Fighters and I'm getting vouchers for Escape Plan, Super StarDust Delta, Hustle Kings, Top Darts and the three AR games to start with.

We'll probably get FIFA, Virtua Tennis, Ridge Racer and maybe Ninja Gaiden as well. Should receive MotorStorm RC and Unit 13 next week.

All for $170 and I still can't get myself excited. I'll probably be when it arrives. :)

... What? How did you get so much for so little?

Wipeout is the only one with long load times during the game, though I think most games do have an initial load time.

Nothing that terribly bad compared to consoles or PSP. I mean, HSG rounds load very fast outside of the initial lobby loads. Even those are about 5-8 seconds at most for me. I'm playing off cart. Wipeout is the one exception. It's bad but not terrible like it was pre-patch. I wouldn't let it stop me from recommending it. It's a pretty awesome game and the free DLC coming for owners of 2048/HD/FURY is amazing.

Would it be dumb to buy this if i didn't intend to use it on the go....? I like new gadgets, and i can see myself just playing this somewhere around the house rather than in front my TV.. but i don't know if i would actually want to take it with me places.

Does this sound dumb?

I think it's safe to say most people who buy handhelds play them at home too. Many probably exclusively play them at home.

I mostly play my handhelds at home.Kind of afraid to play in public.

No, I play handhelds at home or on long train rides. I never take them "on the go".

If you want the games coming out for it, no.

but why ? That is exactly why we wanted them to ditch a disk based system but here we are with the same problems that the psp had.

I am still getting one next week. I just hope they work that out as they go along.
Long loads for a handheld is idiotic.

sorry if this is the wrong place for this question........

anyone else having issues with getting videos from their PC onto their Vita?

my vita pics up nothing from my PC, but no problems with my PS3. my big issue, i have a movie which i bought through Media Go, but never backed up to my PS3. now, i'm trying to figure out how to get it over.

thanks in advance

That Lockerz price on the 32GB card pushed me over the edge. It's also an easy way to talk myself into buying more games that I probably don't have the time to play. :(

You have the Vita Content manager installed? There should be a link in the OP. If you're wondering, it's more closed due to the potential piracy effects. Custom USB charger and custom app for the Vita.

I'm not sure if you're expecting instant load times for games. Even iOS games have load times.

Not at all. Most of us here buy this for the new games it offers. I will be getting one myself to mostly play JRPGs like old Final Fantasy games in my bed to relax.

It really comes down to the developer just like anything else. Also some games like uncharted and pergaps gravity rush well have a boot up loading but once in game will have very few loads. Other games like virtual tennis and hotshots load up matches very quickly.

Okay, glad to see i'm not the only one with this mindset.

thanks everyone

I plan to mostly play at home, and take it in long trips. It wouldnt surprise me if most handhelds were played mostly at home or even exclusively.

The solution is probably going to be developers writing streaming engines. The PS Vita has a lot of RAM. Carts have been "instant" in the past because we're talking about filling 4k or 4MB of RAM. Filling 350+MB of RAM (and more, you know eventually Sony will unlock the rest reserved for the OS) takes time, no matter how fast the data transfer speed is.

Same reason why your PC has load times on a lot of programs. It takes a while to bring data into the memory and process them.

Wipeout has a lot of textures to load. Worth it.

Every other game doesn't have 5+ second load times.

Which programme and channel?

during scuzz channel 374 i think.... about 8pmish, i've not been following the advertisement stuff online

anyway i was on msn to my girlfriend when i heard the ad on the tv behind me, which reminded me of the old ps1 ad's, caught my attention immediatley i knew it had to be for sony and there it was an ad for the vita

this one

I don't think he knew I was talking about PSV saves so I clarified in a followup.

LOL my wife told me to delete my name, as if it matters :P

I seriously hate screen protectors... not only do they stand out with obvious edges around the Vita screen, but they are an unbelievable pain in the ass to put on and when you finally get them on, one tiny fucking piece of hair or dirt gets under the protector and totally screws the whole application. The first two protectors had a long hair strand that would somehow get under them during the applications despite clean soft cloth wipe down (there isn't even long hair in the house!). The third just wouldn't peel off the backing for some reason and the fourth was a clean application until I saw a small piece of hair in the very top left corner of the screen. Not just a strand, but a lump of it that just snuck in there. Keep in mind that I am pulling the bottom off almost against the screen so there is little room for dust to seep in.

You know how some people have an eye for screen tearing? I have a seriously obsessive eye for pieces of hair on a screen. Can't even pull the corner off and wipe the hair off because protector bends and loses the adhesiveness. I tried playing a few games and just ignoring it, but I couldn't. I could see it as long as there was some form of light and in any situation no matter the colour displayed. It just stuck out... staring at me.

I have now gone through two packs of the official Sony screen protectors because of dust or hair just sneaking in there during the application.

I think I might try the Hori screen protector and if that doesn't work, I just won't bother with them at all and just abuse the case in all instances. All of that leads me to the big question... is the Hori screen protector any good? Anyone have one yet?

TL;DR: Screen protectors really suck.

I don't wont my initial disdain for the load times to deter the thread which is why I am trying not to say much but 5+??

There was nothing on that demo unit that came close to 5 sec load times. Every one had one big ass long initial load. If they were only around 5 secs I would not even had said anything. Hell 10 secs would still have been quick enough for me.

I took my PSV right out of the casing and had the protector ready to go. The Skinomi one requires you to spray it with this water type solution as well. Just don't carry it around and put one on there the second it leaves the box. I can't even tell mines there after everything has evaporated.

I'm exactly the same with regards to OCD about dust/hairs under screen protectors to the point where I have just given up on them, I'm pretty anal about how much I care for my systems, so never end up with even a slight scratch on my phone/3DS screen, so don't bother with protectors any more.

Though to be fair I never use hand held systems outside of the house, so less chance to get damaged.

After reading this thread for hours I'm finally going to preorder the Vita on amazon.co.uk

What game would you guys recommend me that I can get with the Vita + 8GB card bundle? I've played the Virtua Tennis 4 demo ( thought it was awesome ) and was thinking about taking that game with the bundle offer, until I read some reviews on Rayman Origins, which seems to be a fantastic game. Anyone thoughts about that from someone who owns both games?

Glad to know I'm not the only one. I usually only play handhelds in the house, but if I do take it out with me, I just have to be a bit more cautious.

Heh, I've applied a bunch of screen protectors, and there's always at least one tiny spot where I mess up. I had to train myself to not pay attention to the spots. The only thing that bothers me is when I had to replace the nub on my PSP, and had to take the front off. Once I put it back together, there were two specs of dust underneath the screen, and no matter how many times I rub on the screen to get rid of it, it never moves, and I'll never learn, lol.

Tales From Space : Mutant Blobs Attack review by IGN.

OMG.

Sweet, glad to see this getting good reviews. I was really interested in the PS3 game after the Giantbomb Quicklook, but I'm just going to pick up this for the Vita instead.

Glad to know I'm not the only one. I usually only play handhelds in the house, but if I do take it out with me, I just have to be a bit more cautious.

same here - as a result i just make sure i buy the protective covers and make sure the machine goes back in once done.

Mutant Blobs - had no idea about this game at all. US release i assume pending following EU?

So what's the best way to put the screen protector on? I put a PSP one on my PSP and had to live with a spec of dust for like the entire console lifespan. I eventually went insane and just took it off and played naked. I enjoyed that much more, actually, but not PSP did not have a touch screen.

Apply it in the bathroom after a hot shower (the water molecules in the steam will bring down the dust particles)? Wipe with a microfiber cloth right before, and use a credit card to push the screen protector down from one side to the other slowly to minimize air bubbles. Any other air bubbles you should be able to rub out the cloth or something.

Have there been any details regarding PS+ discounts? Any launch-day deals (2 for 1 on the PSN store)? Anything?

It sucks how there hasn't been any real communication about what is going on with PS Vita game pricing, and the device has already been on the market for a week.

I'd really like to download some games prior to launch so I don't have to wait, but it'd be terrible to download something only for there to be a launch week special a few days later.

Also, what demos are currently available other than Lumines, Uncharted, and Rayman?

Rayman is a fantastic game with solid 60FPS. I suggest you get that, platinum it, then sell and buy VT4. Also 60FPS, online play, great graphics.

They said on the PS blog that the currently do not have plans to give discounts to PS+ users but that they are looking into it and implementing it in the future.

What is lockerz and why do people keep saying they got some insane deal on there, I can't seem to make heads or tails of it :/

You earn points by watching videos on their site. Videos are usually 6 minutes long and can give you points ranging from 60-300. With those points, you can discount the original MSRP on products the site sells, which ranges from video games to clothing. I managed to buy the 3G launch bundle for $240, when I ranked 1600 points or so. The percentage is dropping by the day though, a week and a half ago it was at 20% off, yesterday it was at 15%.

I just took to a search for the Skinomi screen protectors and those actually look really good. Once I swallow the loss of $22 down the drain from the other two packages, I might take the plunge on something like this, or at least after the Hori one inevitably fails. I care too much for the screen to not want a screen protector and this one has an option to cover the back of the Vita too. I may take a chance on this one, especially because you can make a mistake and then try again.

I just read the instructions and hope it works, but I also do a bit more because of my OCD. I usually put them on in believe or not, the bathroom. It is probably the most dust free location in the house, but somehow everything still goes to shit (no pun intended). I usually wash my hands first, wear no shirt because it carries dust and lint and keep my hair as far away as possible. Read the instructions to a tee and hope for the best... alas, nothing really ever works, so I think I am just doomed to the fate of screen protectors hating me.

That blows my mind... that looked easy and looked like the best method possible for reducing the possibility of dust seeping into the application. I will get one for sure and give it a shot. Hopefully it all works! Thanks for finding that video!

Someone said to put them on in the bathroom as the humidity keeps some dust to a minimal.
