PlayStation VR Launch Thread: Welcome to The Real World

OK how do I clean the lenses? I feel like rubbing a cloth over them might cause damage. Are they glass or plastic? Any cleaning solution recommended? I don't want to fuck anything up, but apparently my eyeballs or eyebrows or something touched the lenses, I sure as heck didn't touch them with my fingers.

Probably your forehead from taking off.

Ugh tried to play scavenger's odyssey again and more nausea. Artificial locomotion with independent head viewing is not bueno. To the guy who thought all games could launch on PS5 with VR support.... not unless there is a significant tech advance.

There was a cloth included with the headset. Look for it, might still be there. Depending on your region, could be blue or grey (biege-ish) And apparently the proper way to clean them is to wipe from the center of the lense outwards, don't do a circular motion. At least that's what I read.

Really, the Sony video shows someone going round in a circle on each lens

Holy shit. Apparently I'm having tracking problems. This looks way better than what I usually experience. Are you holding the wand in front of your face? That almost always seems to fuck things up for me.

Try elevating the camera more, like on top of your tv or something, that helped me a lot.

Wow. I just bumped my computer desk a bit and the side to side wobble of my monitor gave me instant VR-tummy feels. Sometimes I really do wonder what kind of changes VR is making to our wiring.

Yeah, I think it really depends on how susceptible your are to motion sickness, I had a great time with Scavenger, as well as Battlezone and the Super Stardust VR mode, I like being about to move around like that.

Sounds like you just need to avoid any game where you move around with the analog sticks.

So far I have gotten away using the microfiber that comes with the unit. I would try to not use the same cloth for too long and get a new one if it starts to get gunky or stop cleaning the lens well. I have also trimmed my eyelashes for the sake of VR. My left eye especially was hitting it and if I extended out the screen I would begin to lose focus.

GLASSES - GAF - Heads up, PSVR can scratch your lenses. I've had these glasses for a year and a half without a single scratch, after a Rigs session today I noticed a blatant scratch/divot right in my line of sight. The temptation is to bring the VR in as close to your face as you can, but clearly the PSVR lenses can make contact with your glasses. Now I've got this super annoying spot right in the middle of my vision until I can get a new pair, so just a heads-up, don't bring the visor in too close.

If it's any consolation, your eyes will adjust andnot notice that scratch quickly.

Yesterday night after a VR session, I had my arm extended a bit more than usual and was just scrolling through gaf on my phone while holding it in one hand. I was kind of in a haze, and as I was scrolling using my thumb, I could tell my brain wanted to send the signal to "pull the trigger on the controller in my hand" so I could initiate a scroll action on the phone. LOL.

Nah man, it's more of a mini crater. It totally shows up in my field of view. I've had glasses before with shallow scratches that were practically invisible, this is different.

Yeah, I would recommend that when you bring the headset closer to your face, you'll probably connect with the lenses on you glasses and the headset, and just push it back a bit so there is a bit of space, you don't want the lenses rubbing against each other while you play.

So I'm having an issue today with blurriness (particularly noticed in RIGS demo and Eve Valkyrie). It's weird because the screen is only blurry on my right eye. If I close one eye, the left is perfectly clear, and the right is very blurry. The funny thing is that my left eyes vision is actually worse than my right, and yet the opposite is true in the headset.

Has anyone come across this problem? I re-calibrated the eye-to-eye distance, but it didn't seem to help. I also wiped down the lenses in case there were any smudges.

Well you have a few options, clean the lenses, reset calibration of eye-to-eye to default, turn off the console & headset completely, and then turn them back on.

Truthfully we don't know.. Honestly no more than hour and a half a day. I don't think 5 hours of continuous Vr gameplay is good for the brain.. Take breaks people . I have one love it so far but will not abuse it . very immersive stuff so I can see some staying in to long.. lol some matrix ish #BeCareful#NoRewiring

Yep, I'm holding the magazine in my left hand that is supporting my shooting hand with both in front of my face to use the iron sights on the gun. I was getting bad drifting and shuddering but aligning my play area to the left lense and mounting the camera 7.5 - 8ft high. Plus I recalibrate for every play through.

Thumper's got me like...

And I've only made it through Level 4.

Made it to the end of a short-normal Battlezone campaign without dying and then got beat up by the AI core level. I think I pushed through to fast but have no clue how to get the enemy power level down and didn't want to dance around too much on the map. Game is growing on me but it seems really punishingly difficult. Is it easier co-op online?

Too many games to play, I'm bouncing around them like crazy. This might be one of the deepest launches I've seen in quite a while. That or it's just all so new everything seems awesome.

I thought "VR legs" was bullshit. I was wrong. The first day I couldn't play 10 seconds of rigs before ripping the headset off. Today I finished the demos of Here We Lie and Rigs with no issues at all. I'm very excited that my options won't be limited.

Thats pretty high, i thought people reported issues when the camera was higher than 5ft or so?

I had this issue, I found that the position was a little off and lifted the headset a bit further up my forehead, fixed it right up.

That's promising to hear. I too may be getting used to it. First day left me feeling pretty bad.

I played through Batman and some Until Dawn the next day and it was much better but not 100%.

Tonight I played an hour of Tumble and I feel completely normal.

I can't tell if it's the games that I'm playing or me getting my "VR legs" but things are improving.

No problem with that height for me. You have to be mindful of you distance to the camera. Normally the play area goes out to 9.8ft on a flat plane the height reduces the play area.

hmmm intresting, i'll have to do some more experimenting before fixing my camera mount to the unit / Wall.

I wonder if readying a barf bag before playing Battlezone is worthwhile. I can't play for more than 10 minutes before my nausea reaching critical mass. I had to go lay down for 1/2 an hour before I can have another go. Kinda annoying.

Real curious about Tethered. The price seems to be up there with the other "premium" experiences. I like the idea of the game, just curious about the depth of the gameplay.

It's really intresting to see how different games affect different people, i was fine with battlezone, EVE, and driveclub along with all the playroom stuff, but Rigs really chruned my stomach within a few minutes and here they lie managed to frequently give me a sickly feeling with its motion.

I felt a bit queasy playing Scavenger's Odyssey when you do the first jump and noped out after it. Came back a few days later and did like twenty of those jumps and was fine.

I think VR legs are definitely a thing.

Hope Battlezone sits well with me. Seemed fine with the demo, even went up and down the slopes (which seem to be a primary suspect for nausea) and was alright. I kept feeling a *little* something, but I think its akin to going up and down the rollercoasters in Rush of Blood, and nothing else I've tried has given me nausea so far.

Sometimes I wonder if simply the anticipation of nausea (based on other people's experiences) has something to do with it.

I think the enemy power levels can be brought down inside missions when you hack the neutral power stations? I've only done it once.

As for coop online, I don't know about it being easier. It just seems like there's more players that the enemy AI can splash damage on.

Well that did not take long apparently there is a VR porn site supporting PSVR already. Honestly VR porn is ....... The site is virtualporn go test it people :)

I couldn't resist the hype and purchased the Headset and Camera.

VR Worlds is fantastic, but Scavengers Odessy definitely had my stomach feeling a little queasy after about 10 minutes.

Now I need to track down some Move controllers tomorrow and the real fun can begin!

Having a real issue now getting the virtual controller to appear straight in game. Made that Wayward Sky demo a right pain in the arse to play. Even though I had to buy the camera for this, I'd happily fork out for something new that gave better tracking if they offered it tomorrow.

Just played a bit of VEV, it's pretty wild. The sense of scale is very impressive, especially on the blood and cerebrospinal samples. In VR the motion is pretty intense, the dimming of the field of view when turning seems to help, but I think I felt it more when turning up and down.

It's good to be able to play a full freedom of movement game in VR without much in the way of anchoring.

Skiesofwonder

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.

Bought your game and played about a hour worth, impressions below:

The VR is really well implemented. The scale is on point, the organisms look very large and chases can be pretty darn intense due to the 3D effect. As far as comfort goes, with all the spinning and turning you do you would think nausea would set in rather quickly, but I had very little problems while playing (the only time I felt ill was when I was playing in the calibration sample of all things. The words on the panels kept reminding me I was spinning like crazy in the game, which didn't sit well with me).

My main problem comes with the actual gameplay. I enjoyed the VR experience greatly, but I can't say I was having much fun playing the actual game. The levels were nice and big but my hour of just collecting energy balls and dodging organisms gave the impression of an experience that could become tedious and shallow after a few more hours of gameplay. Maybe the locked levels upon up the gameplay a bit more?

Overall, the VR experience of VEV alone is well worth the $4.99 asking price. I'm just not sure if the gameplay is there to back it up, but few other games have immersed me in their VR world like VEV did.

Side note: I was so immersed in VEV that my dog chewed through the protective barrier of my VR headset cable. Thankfully I caught her before she got the actual wiring, but damn if that didn't scare the hell out of me.

So... what games are we looking forward to? Is there anything exciting releasing? For me, GNOG and Resident Evil 7 are some obvious day one pickups. However, what do we know about that Robinson or XING? Is there anything else on people's radar?

I just hope there is a steady flow of quality content to maintain engagement.

Hopefully Hyper Cube will drop in price and more people will pick it up. I can see why people may think it is too pricey for what it offers, but it is genuinely incredible. I think it is my favorite PSVR game. I think many people will discover it to be a stealth killer app.

Just saw the commercial for PSVR and Star Wars Battlefront.

It prints money

I wonder if VR can get me to play it again... The flying would have to be a HELL of a lot more satisfying. That being said, it was a great game when it came to look and sound...

Has anyone tried Waddle Home? I just noticed it was apparently released on launch day, but heard absolutely no impressions from anyone.

EDIT: Bought it since it's only $10.

I haven't scratched my glasses yet, but I've noticed I can't get a clear picture unless my lenses touch the headeset lenses. Then my glasses get smeared along with the headset. I wear a medium size plastic frame. I have a few other pairs I might try and use especially for VR when I play if they work better. I've tried playing with my glasses off and it's so weird that I can't really see like I can with them own even though I'm nearsighted. It's like my brain thinks the picture is further away than it really is...

Picked up the last bundle at Best Buy on impulse. Went in for some cheap kids movies. Wound up spending $500 on the bundle lol.

Loving it so far. The lady is loving the co-op stuff on vr playroom.

I did have to constantly reset the control position because it was getting out of wack. Seemed like it was just an issue with the control. Headset seemed fine.

Any ideas?

I thought I was getting a headache playing because of the game but I think what's really happening is that the headset was on too tight. Crisis averted.
