PlayStation VR Launch Thread: Welcome to The Real World

Has anyone tried Waddle Home? I just noticed it was apparently released on launch day, but heard absolutely no impressions from anyone.

EDIT: Bought it since it's only $10.

Give some impressions once you try it out.

Also just finished rush of blood, and its one of my favorite games I've played this year. I got my eye on the Brookhaven Experiment is it any good?

Rez is outstanding.

I loved the Thumper demo. Is the full game more of the same or does it expand on the demo in terms of visuals/mechanics? Either way I'm sold...

Can't wait to get my wife to try out Area X tomorrow.

So how's everyone doing with the cord, both in and out of use?

The cord creates many comfort problems during use and I haven't quite figured out how to deal with it yet. After I'm done I gotta uplug it from the processing unit and wrap it up with the headset, cause it's just too damn bulky to leave hooked up.

Yesterday, Thumper ran perfectly fine, today? By the end of the level the game thought I was sinking into my chair.

Man. Before the PSVR came out I thought that it would be the one that just works, being on a console and all that..

Nope. One moment everything is fine, but before you know it, the world is wobbling, your view is shifting, your Move controllers dancing.. I mean, I'm fine with its limitations, but when I'm right in front of the camera and doing everything as properly as I could, I want the thing to work as it should.

This kind of stuff has been a real bummer, and puts me off from buying games that want me to stand up and use the Move. Oh but if stuff doesn't work correctly, you should reboot your console.. That's just mind boggling, the last time I had to do that on a console was what, back in the SNES days? I just.. can't. I can't.

The last time I played Job Simulator, I took that little box that the HDMI cables plug into and I stuffed it into the band of my pants. That's the heaviest part that pulls the cord on you, so having it attached to your body makes movement feel very unrestricted.

I know reviews are subjective and all but man checking out the critic reviews for all the titles is borderline depressing. Most of them come off as disappointing. Its the exact opposite of how Ive felt these last couple days regardless of anything Ive tried. Even genres I couldnt care less about like music rythmn or sports games.

Well that did not take long apparently there is a VR porn site supporting PSVR already. Honestly VR porn is ....... The site is virtualporn go test it people :)

not worth trying until the media player supports 3d vr

edit: nevermind, forgot you were talking about web browser and not downloaded media files

Problems with tilted menus?

I've noticed this in a few games and thought it was a quirk of calibration or the camera... turns out it's most likely caused by the headset not sitting on your head straight (even if it does feel straight).

I noticed this when my wife was playing Playroom. her menus were all crooked and looking at her it was obvious the headset was on tilted, even though to her it felt like it was straight.

An easy solution is to bring up a pause menu or the Quick Menu, straghten the headset, and bam, you're good to go.

I surely will. Might be a few hours though as I've got to finish work :)

-some kind of battle-chess game with exotic and fantasy locations to play in
-static isometric view diablo loot style action game

I also feel like some of those old PS Move games need to be revisited. Sports Chamions, and then that card battling Augmented Reality game might be really cool in VR. I also wouldn't mind seeing a game like Sorceryadapted and reworked for VR.

Ugh, fell victim to the horizontal drift again. I thought I fixed it for good, but it just randomly came back. I'm going to have to look at replacing the headset if Sony doesn't make some kind of comment on this.

And I am using a gear having no tracking issues bc tracking doesn't exist so the vr is rock solid.

I can play for hours with no cables anywhere in the world.

Wireless is the way to go for VR.

So... what games are we looking forward to? Is there anything exciting releasing? For me, GNOG and Resident Evil 7 are some obvious day one pickups. However, what do we know about that Robinson or XING? Is there anything else on people's radar?

I just hope there is a steady flow of quality content to maintain engagement.

Hopefully Hyper Cube will drop in price and more people will pick it up. I can see why people may think it is too pricey for what it offers, but it is genuinely incredible. I think it is my favorite PSVR game. I think many people will discover it to be a stealth killer app.

I wonder if VR can get me to play it again... The flying would have to be a HELL of a lot more satisfying. That being said, it was a great game when it came to look and sound...

The aesthetics of Superhypercube are second to, maybe, THUMPER, oddly enough. Both are simple, but highly stylized and effective at the feeling their trying to convey. One is fast, violent, nightmarish. The other is retro, dream-like, and nostalgic. Both feel like they occupy places you could only visit deep in slumberland. It's amazing. I think everyone owes it to themselves to try out both, honestly.

Just played Batman VR for the first time today. Haven't completed it yet but so far it's the best use of the move controllers I've experienced yet. Would love to see more games like this.

...tracking doesn't exist because everything on the gearVR is limited to gyroscopes.

The experience is a small fraction of a full headset, no matter what you tell yourself.

The day mobile VR offers positional tracking w/3D controllers I doubt I ever want to go back to stationary & wired even with an order-of-magnitude better graphics.

That's 2-3 years away though.

I agree. I was surprised on how much fiddling it required to work. Not common for console stuff.

WTF Rigs. Was going thru tutorial and i was doing fine with head turning. Tried to do the right stick turning and the FOV got smaller and now i feel nauseated. Who's the fucking genius that made the FOV smaller? Went back to head turning and the FOV is still small, please tell me thats not how its going to be. I had to turn that shit off.

Right now. I understand that.

You do know oculus is making a wireless standalone headset right?

Im talking about the future.

Playing wireless is how vr is meant to be experienced.

You can turn off that comfort mode thing in the options. Or is that what you meant when you turned that shit off?

Just saw the commercial for PSVR and Star Wars Battlefront.

It prints money

Yup, saw it during Toonami last night as well I think.

Yeah, Robinson: The Journey is one of my anticipated ones.

There are a pretty good amount of videos on youtube showing bits of the game and a couple of behind-the-scenes videos.

Had a couple of awesome hours in Driveclub VR with Spotify going in the background. Just got to get the headset in just the right spot and it's good. Otherwise it becomes too blurry to see where you're going.

Also, I just bought RIGS so I'll be online in a few days, after I've practised a little.. :)

I would LOVE to see a new Alien game for PSVR! I can't help but think how much better Alien Isolation would have been had PSVR existed two years ago when that game was released.

Tried this at a friends house, I am an HTC vive owner but I have to say I was impressed with the PSVR. I have spent many hours in VR on my Vive and I didn't feel like the PSVR was any one bit a lesser experience. I know roomscale is really where people say it's at but I had allot of fun with the games I played (Until dawn/Robot Platformer) and I think this is an excellent device.

I know its been said 8000 times already but this thing really is the most comfortable of the big 3, I love the way Sony designed the headset and strapping on my vive feels so chore like in comparison. I didn't have too many issues with tracking, I think I hit recal once or twice while playing but that was about it, no drift or wobble. Seeing a solid library of games behind this thing makes me happy for the tech over all, I hope they continue support.

I finally got around to trying the Driveclub demo. It sure is a blurry ass game lol. But, I didn't feel any motion sickness from it and the sense of placement is so great. I don't really like driving games at all, but the turns felt so natural in a 3D space. That demo made me want a good racing game on PSVR.

Games we need for PSVR:

-roller coaster sim
-tropical paradise sim
-lightsaber game

Throw in boxing. Or any kind of fist fighting simulator.

Before I started playing London Heist, I was just swinging my hands in the air and wondering "why isn't there a fighting game yet?".

PS Worlds is probably not worth $40 but it does a great job in show casing the different kind of experiences you can have in VR.

I was blown away by Scavangers Odyssey scale and head tracking aiming. I really hope we get more games like this. Super impressed!

There's a psmove fist fighting game called the fight... It's really really awful.

After the weekend and all the demo tried, I need to decide what to buy...
For now I bought Batman (and I'm enjoying it), next could be Wayward sky, the demo was really fun and well made!
I also loved the demo of Allumette, I know it's just a VR film, but I for sure buy it, but on the store I find only the demo...
Thumper was really good too but I will wait a price drop, the same for REZ (too high for a game I already played many times in the past)...
Maybe Rush of Blood because it's fun to play.
Tumble must buy.
Job simulator is fun but with the demo I have a lot of tracking issues, so for now I'll wait.

Then waiting for Robinson the Journey, I NEED dinosaurs! :D

VR worlds looks fun but price too high, and bad reviews about the overall content.

Allumette the full movie is available for free in the U.S. Go grab it now.

I always prefer to have a game on disc rather than download it when it's possible and I would like to import the North American version of Batman : Arkham VR from amazon.com to France because it's only available digitally in Europe.

While I would have no issue playing the game in English, I'm more concerned about my family who are not speaking English at all.
So my question is : does anybody knows if the retail North american version of the game has multi-language ? Specifically french language ?

Thanks a lot to the Gaffer who will take the time to check this out for me !

Just checked. No language options at all.

Time out, Trackmania is going VR?!

Yep!! Brought it in a sale for that very reason. There was conflicting info though as initially the devs said all tracks would be playable I'm vr but I'm sure I've now read that there will be a vr mode with specific tracks.

As a side note playing it in cinema mode with large screen is great!

I think I'm starting to get my 'VR legs'. First time I played Rigs I barfed within a couple of minutes. Managed to get through a whole game today and felt fine.

I'm not really prone to motion sickness but compared to games like Here They Lie it feels more comfortable. Except for walking forwards and backwards which is smooth you turn in incrementals so sometimes it is unnecessarily complicated to get in position. There are no options to change the controls. Personally I think it works OK. The immersion is quite good which is enough for me so far to play further.

Thanks. Sounds like I'm probably going to pick up both in the near future.

As an owner of a Gear VR and PSVR, along with playing a good amount of RIFT and VIVE, i'm compelled to disagree. Mobile VR is definitely the way to go. The hardware simply hasn't powerful enough to provide meaty game experiences. Oculus is working on that, as well as positional tracking. That's definitely the future.
