PlayStation VR Launch Thread: Welcome to The Real World

debating on if I want to play Windlands or not... so far the only things that have given me nasty motion sickness were World War Toons and Scavenger's Odyssey

This is where the old PS+ timed trials would come in handy. I can't really advise as I haven't got anything even remotely close to motion sickness in anything but the game is the most intense I have played in VR. There are a lot of comfort settings for adjusting the game and the difficulty settings can be used to reduce the amount of swinging and flight necessary to get from point A to point B. i.e. The easier the less complex manoeuvres needed. I haven't used any of these though.

Can i just say it is a BITCH to try and remember how all those cables and things were packed up even though they're labeled with numbers lol... christ it literally took me 25 minutes to get the damn thing back in the box!

The boxes have pictures on them of the cables that go in them! Plus you could have just watched an unboxing to see what goes where.

wow. couldn't beat the boss level 4 on thumper. just incredible that game. Damn snakey coming down the track gets me everytime. played about 2 hours tonight. Also the tracks are getting insane and its only level 4 and dreading the other levels

TumbleVR. So I was complaining about drift and how i end up in the hole. tonight, I leaned forward and press the recenter button and it pushes the stage forward. The more I lean forward, the more it centers it. Thank fuck.

So I'm definitely getting the PS4 Pro. I'm just a bit curious. Planning on selling my PS4 afterwards, but how do you transfer data from one PS4 to another? Don't want to lose my copy of P.T.

Just played through the first level / tutorial of Tethered which took 41 minutes (which would fit as a perfect Demo, just saying). The diorama graphics is the first thing that strikes you.

There's a lot to do as you can upgrade your units to different professions to enhance certain abilities and similarly all constructed buildings can be further specialized. Tethering peeps to activities or clouds to improve material yields (or combine different type of clouds like sun and rain to create a rainbow), discovering tomes of knowledge, listening to prayers...

It has a day/night cycle like Minecraft in that monsters come out after it's dark (and each night gets harder and harder).

It's a lot of fun. Hopefully all the great reviews will give it some success.
One of the most pleasing aspects is the great music and various sound fx & cues.

Would you recommend this game to newcomers of the genre Wollan?

Too bad most of the new games this week don't have demos.

I feel that demos are essential to VR. Especially if one is more sensitive to sickness.

I've had the PSVR for about a week now and I'm very glad I made this purchase. Although so far the only game I have actually bought is Batman. Im just squeezing out every last bit of enjoyment out of the demos (and there is surprisingly a lot of it) before I decide on what to buy. I think I will definitely get Thumper. But I'm also torn between Battlezone and EVE Valkyrie. BZ looks like a fun safe choice. EVE demo blew my mind but reviews mention stuff about microtransactions and online only mainly. Is that the case? Which of those two are worth the price?

If you have Plus, you can do save data transfer through the cloud.

Yes I would. Tethered is easy to pick-up yet with plenty to do and upgrade. It's immediate & fun and the audiovisuals are really pleasing.

I need to play more to form a more thorough opinion but clearly all the core mechanics here are really well done. The tutorial level took me 41 minutes and there are 13 levels in total.

Very happy to see a quality strategy/sim game come out at launch for PSVR.
My favorite Wii game was Anno/Dawn of Discovery and I waited years in vain for something similar to show up for PS Move (though arguably R.U.S.E but it was never fully pleasing with its UI & performance).

You can effectively clone your PS4 to the pro. There's a procedure in system settings where you can transfer your entire system to a new PS4. Will transfer everything over. Been able to do this since the PS3 IIRC:

I've got a decently sized youtube channel and they sent me a key, so really it's just a debate on if I can do a video without it fucking up the rest of my day.

Every game should really have a demo as it varies so much from person to person. I've done a bunch of sessions with Driveclub with zero issues (though I think having a racing wheel helps somewhat)

Someone buyed Headmaster?
The demo was fun, but 19€ just for such kind of game... I would have bought instantly for 9€.

Need to know if there is enough interesting content.

OK, Thanks Wollan! I'm gonna try this when I come home from my holiday.

Headmaster is great! It's one of my favourite VR games.

The story has a Portal vibe to it, there's loads of different obstacles/scenarios that get pretty nuts later on and the tracking is spot on.

Personally, I think Headmaster is a steal for that price.

It offers more longevity than similarly priced titles, and it has more variety than you would expect from a simple heading game.

This is coming from a Rift player, but I've really warmed up to EVE. If you're playing for campaign only you may want to pass though as it's pretty short, although I think they implemented a co-op mode which I haven't played yet. In multiplayer the microtransactions are no longer really an issue, you buy packs but you can ignore them and still get a bunch of ships/cosmetic items/xp boosts as you level up (which is admittedly pretty slow). The gameplay itself is a blast though, it feels shallow at first but when you figure out the intricacies of maneuvering to better position yourself against the enemy, it's really something. But once again, it's multiplayer where it shines, the AI is average at best. I also like it way more now because I have a Rift and it's more populated because of crossplay with PS VR.

If i had to pick one, I'd go with EV (even though I have neither). It does give people a lot of motion sickness; you can watch some youtube channels where the "reviewers" say they can't cope with it. I played the demo and had no issues (although I want the axis' inverted). It looks good and the sense of flying in space shit was pretty great. Even rotating the ship, I had no real issues with.

thumper is great. you'll love it. Highly recommend Rez also.

I haven't touched the game yet but your videos show the TTK being ridiculously quick. Just surprised to see that.

You make this game look really fun, which is damn hard to do on a standard screen. Just a pity I really don't like multiplayer.

Thanks guys! I have a blast with it! I made a thread the other day about customizing your controls to best suit yourself. Once you have the controls down, this game is nuts!

Could really use some help with choosing a cheap headset to use with PSVR. On a budget after buying PSVR a bunch of games and Pro around the corner so I'm not looking for the best of the best. Just get me through 2016 until I can pick up a better one later GAF.

Seems like people enjoyed my last video, so I thought that I would come back with more RIGs! ^_^

RIGs: Hunting till the Buzzer

I tried a new Hunter RIG called "Bad Medicine."

Love this game. Y'all need to get on it and we need some GAF game nights.
i know I can't wait to try Rigs but this launch is almost too good! I really need a good week off work to catch up.

I'm not going to S everything in Thumper but I have to beat it, Rez, Batman, and VR worlds first.

Now I'm hearing Tethered is one of the best VR titles as well!!!

What a problem to have I guess

Agreed! I think I just fell in love with RIGs from the moment I watched the bootup menu. I'm worried that I'm gonna run out of stuff to do because I play it so much!

I did buy super hyper cube last night and MAN that game is so fun.

Indeed. Not only because of motion sickness but because some games like Job Simulator require you to stand in a certain area (which for me happened to be in the middle of my sofa... and I'm not going to relocate things just because of one game). Because of that, in future I'm going to be put off any games that have such a stringent requirement for positioning unless there's a demo.

Headmaster is brilliant. There is plenty of content and the game has an great sense of humor. It's well worth its money in my opinion.

I sold my copy of Eve, despite looking great it has been quite disappointing to me. Because it's multiplayer arena based everybody is constantly rolling to evade or rolling to attack somebody. It's just not fun with the vehicles having no physical limitations on maneuverability. With jets or older planes it might have been a different story. Battlezone is tough as nails in single player but it is the better game in my opinion. If you like it from the demo I would recommend Rigs for the cockpit/sci-fi feel of Eve or Battlezone. Of those three games it's the one that's most worthy of being a full pice game followed by Battlezone.

I love rigs from the time i played it for about a hour or two but I got pretty queasy from it. Just wondering if I continue to play it a bit at a time will it get better for me?

I want to say yes, simply because I think that's how most games with great camera and controls work in VR... however, I'm no expert on the how the technology works.

People keep saying "VR Legs" but I'm not 100% sure that works for everything and for everyone.

That being said, you may as well try! :)

Hah, I was just thinking the same. Glad you asked, since the answers seem pretty informative.

Both of them had strong demos, and both have physical copies. I'll probably end up getting both eventually. Just based on the demos, I'm leaning more toward BZ, but Eve impressed for sure.

Another vote for Eve. It's really polished but you will indeed need PS+ to get the most out of it.

Battlezone needs a patch. It's too hard and not entirely fair, from what I'm hearing. Amazing engine and fun gameplay but for now, the demo is enough for me.

it's crazy difficult (battlezone) which i like, but even on easy it's hard. it's set up like an arcade machine, you need coins to play. you use points to buy coins. but it feels like it's hard for the same reason arcade machines were...to basically get more money pumped into it...only it's a home console release. lol. i think easy should at least be easy. either in terms of damage output, ammo, or coins available (or the points cost to buy them)

hard should stay hard since that's the point.

When you say transfer everything over, does that include games/saves from other regions? I hear you need to be logged into your PSN account to do the transfer, but obviously you can only be in one account at a time - I have UK, USA, JPN and HK accounts.

I'm going to keep drip feeding some Rigs until i can handle it better. Love the gameplay!

Is Tethered much of a game? Looking for something substantial and I already have RIGS and Until Dawn.

Trying to decide between Tethered and Wayward Sky.

I'm not sure. If you watch the video, multiple accounts are transferred over.
