Oh man. There's so many good VR games. Now Tethered and Windlands came out this week and have been getting great reviews. I'm trying to save for a 4k receiver in the mean time. DAM YOU GOOD VR GAMES!

Hopefully the attach rate for PSVR games is high! Attracts more developers to the platform... bringing more games... turning more consumer's heads and purchases... bringing more devs... bringing more games... and the cycle continues until we live in a bountiful VR future!

Tethered is so good, I've only played the tutorial level so far but it is beautifully put together and so clean, even when you get up close to your little people.

Thanks for the encouragement! Oh well, what's two more games. I already own 11 VR games in total. I've been enjoying Brookhaven Experiment's survival mode so far. It's really fun.

Just mounted my camera to a weighted microphone desk boom. I can easily adjust the height and angle of the camera for easy play area changing. Can easily slide it around my desk for placement for whatever I'm playing. Probably will be way better than atop my monitor. It's weighted so it won't budge and if you hit the desk it won't wobble. Putting it away is just sliding it out of the way real nice since I put a felt pad on the bottom. Should make for far faster adjustments and setup between games.

Can anybody with the revised DS4 controller (the one with the extra strip of light at the top of the touchpad) tell me if the DS4 is tracked when facing down due to the extra light?

If so, that's kind of a game-changer for VR games that use DualShock.

I would Love to see this someday;

As a free update you will now explore space in Virtual Reality

"No Mans Sky VR"

Oh, God! I'd love that so much... Taking off through the atmosphere, entering Black Holes, being surprise attacked by weird Alien Beasts - ALL IN VR! It would be AMAZING.

I agree close up it looks great, but I don't feel the TV output is representative of what i'm seeing inside that headset. I still love the game, have gotten all gold stars, done the venom time trial, just the grind to 60 really and others will come (10 minutes on the grass etc) till I get my Platinum. So I'm not shitting on the game, just wondering why in my eyes there is such a disparity between TV/YouTube to my headset image.

I posted earlier in the thread what I suspect the problem is here. DCVR has two problems visually that compound to make it particularly bad looking inside the HMD. One, the low resolution which is the most obvious, which makes things a bit "blurry" even when the car is not moving. What makes it worse though is the 60fps to 120fps reprojection has a "ghosting" artifact, especially on objects moving at high-speed, which adds more blur to the already blurry image. That reprojection artifact makes it impossible to focus your eyes on an object that has any detail moving at a high speed. This is my biggest problem with the game, because the result is that it hurts my eyes.

One of the reasons I love 60fps racers is because your eyes can resolve more detail on moving objects than you can at 30fps. The reprojection is going to take that away a bit unfortunately. I'm pretty bummed out about it because DCVR was one of my system sellers for VR (along with Rez which has a different visual problem for me). Thankfully, so many of the other games have been so good on PSVR that I'm still happy with it. What you're seeing on the social screen is DCVR running at 60fps without any reprojection artifacts. That's why it looks "different."

The solution is for the game to be running at 90fps or native 120fps. Look closely at any of the games currently available that run at native 90fps and you'll see how good things can look compared to games using reprojection. I believe Thumper, Windlands, and VEV all run at 90fps. I think there are others, but not sure.

Could really use some help with choosing a cheap headset to use with PSVR. On a budget after buying PSVR a bunch of games and Pro around the corner so I'm not looking for the best of the best. Just get me through 2016 until I can pick up a better one later GAF.
Ok I've asked a couple of times in this thread but can't seem to get a reply. How about just telling me what you are using and if it works well with the VR headset on. Could really use some help on this please!

I've been loving my time with PSVR.

Couple of questions--is anyone else having an issue with the rubber part of the face mask coming loose? I haven't been rough with it at all, but last night I had to re-insert two of the rubber pegs on the top side. This makes me concerned about long term durability.

Also, any pointers for eliminating light coming in from below the mask? It's fine for the most part, but if a scene in a game is dark, I can see light from my Move controllers and it breaks immersion.

My favorite experience so far was the last few minutes of Batman. Very clever use of the tech that wouldn't be possible in another medium.

I remember in the tear down video, they said the rubber bit is supposed to pop out easily so you can clean it.

The way I eliminate all external light is to pull the band up at the back, towards the top of my head. That pushes the bottom of the mask into my face.

I'm just using the earbuds that came with it. My original Playstation headset has no 3.5mm jack option, and my wife's cat ears headset doesn't fit over the PSVR band and my big head.

Not sure what I'm going to do for a decent headset, since my preference is over ears and I don't think there's enough room between my ears and the PSVR band.

That's good to know about the rubber and that it's not a defect in my headset.

Thanks for the tip on eliminating light. I'm going to give that a try tonight!

I second this. My Pulse Elites fit ok but I don't think it does them a whole lot of good because they have to be expanded fairly wide and having seen them on someone else it just looks like it's a quick way to break them.

Did Sony use a particular model when demoing PSVR?

it's crazy difficult (battlezone) which i like, but even on easy it's hard. it's set up like an arcade machine, you need coins to play. you use points to buy coins. but it feels like it's hard for the same reason arcade machines were...to basically get more money pumped into it...only it's a home console release. lol. i think easy should at least be easy. either in terms of damage output, ammo, or coins available (or the points cost to buy them)

hard should stay hard since that's the point.

Totally agree. They added a campaign mode to the arcade game so it should be better balanced. Easy is still very difficult. I've yet to finish even a short easy campaign. I also find the interface and systems confusing since they are not explained well. If I unlock a weapon is it available for future games or just the current game? And what are the blue items that drop from enemies? Are those the credits? I really like the core game but it's in need of balance and a manual.

I purchased these Sony Professional Studio headphones after reading exceptionally great things about them. They've been on the market for over 20 years and are still highly praised by studio producers. And they were half the price of Sennheisers that were recommended here on GAF (I do not recall the model).

I can attest to how great they sound! And they fit over the PS VR headset without issue. I've noticed them slipping only with lots of fast and excited head movements (happened during Rez a few times), but that is the exception, not the rule.

I use the headset Turtle Beach made for the Wii U. I put the PSVR headset on first and then the earphones over it. They fit perfectly.

Been playing Rigs since launch with not one hint of sickness then today I decided to mess about with the comfort settings...... BIG mistake. Instant motion sickness and I had to stop playing for a few hours. Back to standard settings for me!

Great game, can't wait to dive back in.

I used to have this exact set of headphones until they took a kitten to the face. She doesn't chew on cords anymore thankfully, lol.

Excellent set for the price. SUPER comfy and amazing audio quality for the price. I still use my Gold's for now after buying PSVR and Pro so I'm strapped aside from some game buys. Will definitely nab these again in the future now that baby girl had grown out of her "can I chew this?" phase XD

The furthest I've got is about 7 hexes into an easy campaign. It's hard as fuck but I like that!! Here is what I have gauged so far: (if I'm wrong then someone please correct me)

The blue chips are indeed credits and you can use these for upgrades, lives or weapons previously unlocked.

For upgrades in-between mission while looking at the hex map press r1 and it will bring up the upgrade menu. You can freely allocate any existing points as you wish (so could remove everything bar front Shields and put all your existing points into that, although I wouldn't recommend it lol). You can then use your credits to buy additional upgrade points with an increasing cost per point - so 1st point is 500, second is 750 third is 1000. As far as I know upon starting a new campaign, all upgrades reset.

For lives, on the hex map look to your left slightly and you will see an option to buy a life if you hold down square. Again, lives increase in cost as you buy them like the upgrade points.

For weapons you need to visit a supply point on your hex map. When you do I believe it generates a random choice of weapons from a stock starter plus any unlocked weapons you may have got from previous campaigns. Weapons available to buy will change every campaign and purchased and equipped weapons will not carry over to a new campaign.

Hope this helps. My strategy so far on my latest and most successful campaign (half way through so far), was to juggle between buying extra lifes and tank upgrades. At a supply point I sold one weapon for a mark 4 upgrade of the same one. Patience is key. Try to avoid rushing in and definitely don't be afraid to run away to cover (I've found they follow you in small numbers enabling you to pick them off between cover)

Edit: just another thought but it took me a while to work out some of the missions. The ones where you have to hack an enemy Base before they hack yours, I found just head straight for their Base and hang in there while completing the hack. When I tried to defend mine 1st I got slaughtered. Yes the payout won't be as great as you didn't destroy enemies but you complete the mission

I wasn't properly prepared when I bought PSVR, so I still need move controllers. Anyone have any good strategies to get them on the cheap?

Go to a mom and pop used game store. I went yesterday and they had two boxes full of used move controllers for 10 bucks each. If the red light comes on, the controller is still good.

Anybody else here has a 5.1 (or more) audio setup and therefore plays PSVR without the headphones?

Once I realized I didn't really need them I just stopped using headphones, having one less cable tethered to me feels much better.

Finally got round to picking up my first game with rush of blood, looking forward to playing it tonight.

I have been holding out for my local indie shop to get some vr games in since I have £40 in credits with them but nothing so far. Had a look and game are terrible rip offs as usual, they are selling vr world's for £50! Argos have it for £25.

I wanna get a load of the digital games but I just moved and won't have broadband until November 10th :(

For a game that is really enveloping you, a 5.1 isn't going to work that well. For example, when you turn to the left, your left ear is now facing a rear speaker and it's not going to know to output the sound that is really to the left of you. You will still get that sound from the left speaker which is now hitting your right ear. I mean, depending on the game, it may not matter, especially if you are generally facing forward and straight ahead, but for games where you are constantly turning around, I imagine it is a big difference.

It works OK for the most part but some games don't seem optimised for 5.1 and the separation and positioning can be off, especially when your head is turned. The only game that I recall having several options is Rush of Blood where you can select headphones, home cinema etc. and it works really well.

I hope more devs add an option for speakers or headphones in future VR titles.

You need them for 3D audio, which is a much better experience than using a 5.1 theater.

But you are assuming that simulated 3D sound over stereo headphones is inherently better. I am not fully convinced that it's the case. The whole claim that you can somehow produce accurate positional audio over a single channel per ear has always seemed dubious to me.

That's like saying you're not sure 1080p delivers a better picture than 720p.

The point is pretty moot because right now VR solutions don't provide positional audio to 5.1+ setups so as you move your head around the audio will be detached from the video.

Supposing that positional audio IS given to speakers then it still runs into problems with large movements as you get closer and further away from each speaker.
Supposing that is corrected for with software then you have software making adjustments to speakers to create corrected sound.
If the software is correcting for anomalies then we're right back at where we started. We're probably better off keeping the speakers in a fixed position relative to the player's perspective. Headphones.

No, it's really not.

It pretty much is. Read up on 3D Audio. The whole point of it is to surround you with audio in the same way the human ear processes sound in reality. Yes it's a simulation but a MUCH more accurate simulation than what 5.1 can deliver.

Tethered really is a great VR game and worth getting.

Seeing the little creatures fall to their doom is heartbreaking. I 'A' starred care or whatever it's called on the last level, can't let them down again.

If I had one nitpick it would be that you can't peer in too close sometimes. It would be great to have a close up look at some stuff like with Allume.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
Just mounted my camera to a weighted microphone desk boom. I can easily adjust the height and angle of the camera for easy play area changing. Can easily slide it around my desk for placement for whatever I'm playing. Probably will be way better than atop my monitor. It's weighted so it won't budge and if you hit the desk it won't wobble. Stealing this idea. lol

I might try mounting a soft light as well. Idk. Might help.

I've played pretty much every PSVR game out there that's been known to cause VR sickness and not felt the slightest bit sick (DriveClub, Rigs, Battlezone, Here They Lie etc.) but man Windlands really got me.

I still feel a bit rough this morning from about half hour of playing it last night.

I've played this yesterday and it pretty good. It's nice to explore the levels looking for hidden collectibles.
And holy crap, the grappling hook mechanic is really something in VR. I want this in the next Batman VR game! If only it was for the transitions between hight levels.
I was surprised I could play it in the most 'free' mode without getting nausea. But I can imagine some people could get sick soon in this game. So it's nice they've implemented various movement settings.

I played 45 minutes or so before making myself dinner when I got home from work yesterday.

First half hour was really trippy, no comfort modes on or anything. I was having a blast. But the last 15 minutes were a bit rougher. I was getting some stomach pains, probably because of the mix of starting to get really hungry + all that fast motion and bumping into things.

But overall, I really liked it. Just wouldn't advise it until other games stops causing you nausea though.

It sounds really, and I mean really good if you have good pair of IEMs. And it's very much positional. no doubt about it. I could hear things behind me in the Kitchen demo for example.

Then again, if you have an earth shaking set of speakers, you won't regret hearing stuff over them either - and not all games rely that much on positional audio. Try and see what you prefer.

I have to echo what others are saying about Tethered, it is my favorite PSVR experience so far. The game looks beautiful and the 3D is really nice. The little peeps are so adorable. It really makes me want a VR version on Don't Starve with the same style.
