PlayStation VR Launch Thread: Welcome to The Real World

Absolutely. I had so much fun with this already, and they keep on updating it with new games in the bar. They even added Checkers and Chess last time!

I think its the Nr.1 social game right now on psvr.
Also has a great replayability because you can always play a quick round of pool or darts.

That's interesting as I purchased sports bar and I've found it terrible. Wanted to play pool and the controls were screwed. My cue is sideways and I can't get round the table to line a shot properly. It's been the only purchase I've regretted but I'm now wondering if I'm missing something. Any tips??

So uh, why isn't there a punchout game for VR? Like I've played a handful of titles with virtual hands and when I hold the trigger it makes a fist and the first thing I start doing is throwing punches in VR which is fun. You'd think the easiest fruit ninja type VR experience would be punchout where you throw punches and the person your hitting actually interacts with them and then you dodge/duck to avoid incoming hits on your side. Kinda surprised there's no game like this on PS VR or even PC that I know of.

The Fastest Fist
Thrill of the Fight
Heavy Impact
Kunlun Fight VR

So it seems like that DeoVR is already finished and Sony just doesn't allow it. Also Google has problems with their App and they are waiting for Sony too.

Also Sony has no plans for SBS 3D and they don't even answer some developers of these apps.

I just want everyone to spam Shuheis Twitter. Fuck Sony seriously. Such an important VR feature and they are just putting a wall infront for everyone.

Is there an explanation for this?

I cannot understand why is so difficult.

* amazed that PSVR worlds is no 1 on the UK charts. Lots of game on there that deserve to be. Harmonix Music is a top 10 seller? That's a surprise. Tetherd, thumper and REZ not making the list is WTF (unless they're not considered strictly PSVR games - referencing thumper and Rez)

These games sold the most copies. It's not that these games are the best games out there.

This is where the resolution issue of VR becomes apparent: res of distant objects. So no it's not the eye distance settings it's the downside of current generation VR hmd's.

When I first tried PSVR I was amazed at how good the resolution was of close objects, it took a bit of time to notice where the hit was.

So who knew? Crystal Rift? From the guys who made Windlands? Old school dungeon crawl with aged graphics and super simple combat? Yeah, it's actually pretty great in VR. If King's Field or slower paced dungeon crawls are you thing, this game really hints at what fantasy VR can be. It's more fun than has any right to be and is a game i'll likely go back to time and again. There's NO hype and NO reason to think that it would be any good from the trailers. The combat is awful, but it runs smooth as butter on PS4 Pro with not hint of vertigo in sight. The room puzzles are the appeal of the game, and while simple, it sure is a bast to play. Just wanted to spread the word on this little-discussed gem.

I like Crystal Rift, I've had it for a month now, and I like playing it but I'm taking a break because I don't how to beat a boss and its kind of frustrating that I keep dying. Death is really jarring in that game, the first time I died from something outside of my FOV, I felt like that's what an unexpected death must be like in real life. I shut my eyes and my whole body tensed up, it was amazing and why I like VR.

I'm really hoping that Sony ups the restock effort in the upcoming weeks. I've been sitting on almost $200 in Gamestop credit from trading in my old PS4 and I would like to play though RE7 with this.

Surprised to see Here They Lie in that list. I actually enjoyed the game, but I know a lot of people passed on it at launch. That sale must have really helped it a lot.
It was on sale for close to 40% off for PS+ not too long ago. That's a heck of a discount. I bit at that price!

With those kinds of sales numbers, maybe it'll give the devs some motivation to optimize it for the Pro. I'd definitely play through it again with better image quality.

So over time I've come to realize that owning both the PSVR and Vive is kind of not worth it for me. I had a blast with it even with the wobble, but I'd rather recoup some cost and let someone else who really wants to get in on the VR ground floor, to have a go.

Shoot me a PM if interested. Excellent condition with camera, no motion controllers. Under the launch asking price.

Well I now have the 4th best score in Superhypercube. I can't believe how many hours I put into this game. It reminds me of all the old Colecovision games I grew up on. It also is the reason why I love VR games so much right now. They are so simple in a very positive way. AAA games just feel so bloated with content that isn't very interesting or can flat out not be included at all with no ill effect.

are you keeping the vive?

Bought my first VR game, Batman, not having move controllers but seeing that there is controller support.

Boot up, everything looks great, then realise that the devs have not even bothered to include motion tracking on the controller so you literally have to manipulate items using the thumb sticks. Fucking terrible and completely immersion breaking in this game.

Massive disappointment, now I guess I have to fork out another $150 AUD.

You did that to yourself. No one, and I mean NO ONE, has recommended playing Batman without Move controllers. If you'd done the smallest research you'd have known.

The classic GAF response, but for regular non-enthusiasts out there this kind of experience will be extremely off putting.

I watched a couple of YouTube reviews and none of them mentioned anything, but yeah, my fault for not happening across that specific bit of information.

You can play DriveClub VR, using the motion tracking in the Dualshock 4 to simulate turning a wheel. They should have made that option obvious upon booting up the game.

Yeah, the Move controller situation sucks, but looking at the experience Batman Arkham VR seeks to provide it's fairly obvious it can't be easily replicated with a controller. That said if I hadn't seen controller gameplay of it before getting a PlayStation VR I might have been convinced that it was a decent alternative.

The "no 3D video" and total silence approach on the subject from Sony is pissing me off.

I guess the non porn market needs to grow significantly before they are forced to move on this.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a movie studio "but then they can pirate 3d movies!!" situation. Especially since they seem to be delaying/stopping other cinema apps from coming out.

It is pretty unacceptable though. PSVR has launched without key-features even the shittiest of smartphone VR had out the gate.

Finally tried Keep Talking, and the game is just awesome. VR and production isn't anything special, but the concept makes everything. Can't wait to play it with more people. Group playing will be soooo chaotic.

I just want google earth.

to expand on this, not only would Google Earth be cool, but knowing that we'll get more apps like google earth would be amazing. There's surgical/anatomy app being planned for VR to help surgeons prepare before an operation. That kind of 'real' simulation stuff would be great on VR.

If I lost the cleaning cloth that came with the system, is there any way to buy another official one?

My microfiber cloths don't seem to get the greasiness off the lens as well as that did.

No, are they supposed to be good?

Can anyone confirm it being good for this headset?

I'm stl interested in an official cloth but alternatives are going to have to acceptable if you can't buy anything from Sony.
The lenspen works great with PSVR. I bought additional for my cameras as well. Easy to carry in my backpack, and Works great when out and about. $8 well spent.

If a developer puts in support for a specific peripheral and that support turns out to be shit - it's the consumer's fault?

WTF?

Dualshock might not work as well as Move for Batman but there is no fucking way after having played through the game multiple times with Move they could not have improved the DS4 support. None. It's not Move but it's horrible for what it is. That's not on any consumer in the slightest so get off your high horses.

London heist proves that you are right.

Dualshock could be used as a hand and I hope that they will put this option in RE7 if they will not support move controllers.

There's no way RE7 is going to support move controllers. They aren't at all suitable for the actions that game needs.

Maybe they could if the navigation controller was alive.
Square and triangle for left and right.

I'm still a bit puzzled as to why Sony made it possible for the PS OS to recognize the navigation controller, but then didn't bother to use it for VR games. The only explanation I can think of is that the original navigation controller sold so poorly that they discontinued manufacturing it and it's not the worth the cost to them to go back to China and reconfigure a factory to start cranking them out again.

Well, my response was to a complaint posted on NeoGAF, an extremely niche forum filled with gaming enthusiasts, about a game for a $400 PERIPHERAL. Not exactly the average clueless consumer, or shouldn't be.

Got back into Battlezone now I have had a bit more time. I really enjoy the game especially once the synthwave music kicks in and the action is in full flow. I feel the game is really missing a sense of progression, the upgrade system isn't really doing it for me and even though I have only played short campaigns so far I find the system becomes tiresome pretty quickly especially when combined with the structure.

For longevity as a procedural roguelike-like I feel it is missing some big steps and this ties to the upgrade system. There are two ways in which I think procedurally generated games excel in this area, it is either modifiers which radically change the game and add an element of randomness like in Spelunky, The Binding of Isaac and Rogue Legacy or where your progress is carried across but you need to get into the harder parts to unlock/find the better equipment such a Shiren the Wanderer, chalice dungeon in Bloodborne, and palace of the dead in FFXIV. With the current structure I feel the later would be the better option, even though it currently uses a system similar to what is in FTL it doesn't work as well because it is less strategy focused so upgrading the base stats you like then getting the better weapons becomes tiresome quickly.

A method I think could work well is once you have unlocked a stat/weapon via using data it then becomes a permanent upgrade but only for the tank you bought it in, however you would still need to go past certain checkpoints such as a mid point and the volcano to make those upgrades permanent to add a risk reward element. The permanent upgrades you would be able to add at the start of a new campaign and at supply points but you can choose to go with basic equipment or the best you have unlocked to play with different builds. You would still need to unlock the weapons and tanks by doing the requirements as they are now and data would be reset at the end of a campaign. This way it allows people to feel like they are making progress early on even if they fail to get to the end and lessens the learning curve to a small degree whilst allowing those who are experienced to experiment much quicker.

Still failed on me today whilst playing Thumper, HDCP set to 1.4 in safe mode, HDCP turned off in system settings.

I'm in a similar situation with my PS Pro/PSVR on a 2015 Samsung 4k (forced HDCP 1.4 in the PS4 recovery menu), and was still experiencing issues with a black screen and audio dropping out. I was only ever able to fix it by changing the system output resolution to 1080p, which definitely defeats a good chunk of the reason for owning the thing, but at least I don't have problems with VR this way.

Is surgeon simulator worth the asking price with the recent discount? Did they fix the controls?

Thanks GAF!

They did patch the controls so now Move controllers work like they do in other games, and the collision detection has been cleaned up.

On the other hand, that makes it a little bit less like its original non-VR version where wonky controls and stumbling through surgery fighting those controls was kind of the point. But if you want a comically gruesome VR surgery experience, this it.

I'm only on 1080p but I've had the issue a few times too - I've not done the force HDCP thing however. It seems to give away when it's going to do it however when I switch PSVR on, if the TV goes black briefly then it often plays up however if I restart the Pro then turn the PSVR on the TV picture stays on and I have no issues...

Shu said it was because people couldn't use analog sticks in VR properly and got sick and dizzy.

I hated his answer though.

Figured I'd ask here since it has to do with the psvr. I'm gonna borrow the psvr from a friend to play through RE7 when it launches. Has anyone played the demo this way? I've watched different people play it on YouTube and some seem to show the camera moving normally while others the camera will instantly skip around. Supposedly this is an option to help with ppl who get motion sickness? To me that'd not only be annoying, but immersion breaking.
