PlayStation VR Thread 2: Reloaded

Captain Hero

The Spoiler Soldier
My wife told me not to bother buying this for myself for my birthday, so I guess I already know what I'm getting. Looking forward to it, but I hope to see more games actually take advantage of the peripheral. VR literally adds a whole new dimension to the old light gun game genre, and has a chance to revitalize it.

Well , thats really nice and yeah I'm sure in E3 they will show something good for the psvr and exclusive :)

For Star Trek Fans this could be a killer app. Also looks to be a great way to goof off with friends. LOL

Have to admit the old school nerd in me is really happy about this game coming out next month. If this and a Star Wars X-Wing cockpit game with a single-player campaign are both available and of good quality, I've justified my purchase of PS VR right there.

If the Star Trek game eventually includes a "tourist mode" and brings in things like 1701-D and the original 1701 circa the movie era, of Wrath of Khan and others, I'd almost buy it for that alone.

This! Best PSVR game in 2017 so far.

Tried the demo, quite intrigued. I'm likely to bite on it, though I may wait a bit on it. I also loved I Expect You To Die, but was surprised by how brief it was. If this is the same, maybe a slight discount might be enough to get me to pick it up.

so the english version of summer lesson is out in asia. bought it digitally on psn.

first impressions: the white school girl outfit is slightly see through can you can see her bra underneath. just like real life! also, there's some subtle breast physics going on.

english translation seemed fine. haven't seen any engrish so far. but too early to tell.

only tried it out for a few minutes as i had to leave for work. will play some more later.

So you mean totally educational interactive human simulation. Not pedobear at all. Not the slightest bit creepy. Right?

It's really not bad at all. Played through the japanese version. Hikari is a sweetheart and the dialogues are funny imo.

The creepy things are when she is right by your face or she reacts if you look at her phone or listen with her to music. Feels a bit to real like VR porn in that regard. Strange feeling of connection to someone who isn't even there... Can't really explain, but I really got nervous because of that.

Nice. Imported the physical copy so I've just gotta wait until it gets here.

We need Bridge Crew to be expanded or mini Sequel to support Vs: one crew is federation, the other Klingon (or Romulan, or Borg)

Sorry, but I don't think you have thought this through. Either the ships are an even match, then each match is boring and quickly over. Or the ships are unequal, then each match is boring and even more quickly over. XD

I see absolutely no opportunities for competitive multiplayer here.

Has your's shipped yet? I'm starting to get annoyed by my play-asia order still sitting there in 'preparing order.' Was considering begging them to cancel it and buying it digitally this weekend instead.

I'm thinking of going the digital route for this as well. I'm curious about it, and since it's kind of a pain to switch discs when you've got a headset anyway, the physical disc route doesn't have much appeal. It's probably easier to just create a Singapore or Hong Kong account, buy the PSN currency and get it digitally that way. No waiting.

If anybody missed it, info on Tekken 7 support on vr.

To sum it up, he thinks fighting in first person is not great and not suitable unless it's build up as a VR game from scratch.

Seems like it will be a character viewer, customize and look at it. Apparently fighting in first person is not fun, so they made a character viewer, stellar. Even if they crafted a short experience of fighting in first person, like street fighter 2 in switch exclusive mode, it would've been better.

You didn't listen closely, he also talked about fighting CPU opponents. Then you can slow or freeze time to look at the scene. But there is fighting. Too bad it doesn't sound like it supports multiplayer. Should be just about any mode besides story which would make no sense anyway.

I played a run through of English Summer lesson tonight. Ran into a very annoying bug quite often where if Hikari is standing too close (And that girl loves to invade my personal space) she obscures the subtitles. Apart from that I now have an idea how to play :)

Why on earth does it have to be first person for VR anyway?

Have them fighting on a diorama in front of you..or as full sized fighters at a distance as if you were watching from a seat ringside with you controlling one of them.

I really don't know why so many devs are convinced that all VR games have to be first person.

Why would you want to play a game like Tekken in first person when a lot of it is about watching character positioning. Its such an important part of the core mechanics that being in first person would detract from it especially considering how athletic the move set of each character is. The game would essentially have to be not Tekken using that perspective and most fighting games that have used that perspective as a side mode have been very poor in the past as you miss the majority of the visual cues.

What makes the most sense is placing people as spectators that control the characters as it preserves the core gameplay and could work really well with stages such as arena from Tekken 4.

What ever became of FFXV's VR mission?

Last time they spoke of it that I'm aware of was a bit before the episode glados DLC was announced. The E3 thing was just an announcement visual and demo for the confrence (apparently it wasn't good) and that they had only recently started to explore the different possibilities. Too lazy to look for the link but if you look for quite recent interviews with the director you will find it there, I think there was a thread with his name, the games name and VR in the title. I personally was more interest in the VR mode the FF14 team built.

3rd person giant VR Rock'm Sock'm Robots? Grrr, now I want a new VR version of R.A.D.

Yeah Fighting VS CPU in VR is honestly all I hoped for. If the entire character roster, as well as a few stages are available in VR, I'll be super happy. + a VR Character viewer sounds awesome too. Tekken 7 VR support sounds quite good!

There's actually a mecha fighting game in JP PSN store, basically you are sitting in the center and the fight is infront of you, controlling one of the character. Works really well.

I just popped in to mention this. Steel Combat, a mech combat game. Developed by 8ing, no less! It actually came out for the Rift a while ago, and I thought it was extremely weird to see such a polished fighting game (if a bit bare) stuck solely on that PC VR platform. Had to pick it up.

Nope, not yet, though the charge happened and I think it says pending now. I think the site showed that the release date was actually 4/27, so maybe that's why our orders have been in preparing order for so long.

Heads up: Amazon has the PSVR Aim Controller in stock ($60) for those who are getting Farpoint digitally.

oh damn....I'm glad I cancelled my digital pre-order and decided to go for the physical bundle instead. $60 for the controller alone???

SAVE YOUR MONEY PEOPLE AND GET THE BUNDLE!....unless you just want to play farpoint with the DS4.

Yeah Fighting VS CPU in VR is honestly all I hoped for.
Why? If you can fight a CPU in VR I can't see any reason that PvP wouldn't work exactly the same? (Although I don't really play fighting games)

Really weird that it's in first person though... Surely they would have tried third person first, maybe it didn't work well for some reason? Is there much sidestepping (camera rotating) in Tekken? Maybe they couldn't make that comfortable

all this Tekken VR talk makes me think that this game would work better for VR than it did on PS3

It's not. In fact, he said the exact opposite of that. He mentioned people often expect it to be first person while he figured out many years ago that will never work with Tekken.

He also said maybe another game that is specifically concepted for VR might work in first person, but he sounded rather skeptical it would be fun.

Oh, I misread something then... So there is fighting (v CPU) in standard(ish) third person?

Can't watch the video while I'm at work and that summary is confusing.

I was a complete idiot and didn't email them last night to take the time difference into consideration. So there's no way they will read my cancellation request before Monday =/

Now the question is do I attempt being responsible and just wait to receive the package next week, or buy it digitally tonight and hope I can sell the game on Amazon when it shows up.

I'm kind of under the impression they didn't even receive the game stock yet, which is why the orders have been in 'pending' all week.

Fake edit: Yeah, they just updated the page with "Pending stock arrival. * Expected stock arrival 04/29/17 *"
