PlayStation VR Thread 2: Reloaded

It's a crime that there are only 1 good car racing game in PSVR and that is Dirt Rally 1.
GT Sport would be great but some reason it's only very shallow, what a shame that Sony don't push Polyphony to make more VR content.

It is a crime, but Wipeout vr is the best racer I've played this gen so it makes up for it a little.

I stand by Driveclub.

Despite no pro patch, the immersion is off the charts. And the gameplay and handling is perfect when assists are turned off. Playing with the motion controls is essential assuming no wheel setup.

Driveclub VR is underappreciated. It has a career mode with many race events and AI opponents, and you can freely drive any of the cars in any of the tracks at any time of day without having to worry about racing.

I love slowly driving through those Canadian mountains at dusk, looking outside of the window, being in awe at all those trees, lakes and all that nature. Makes me wish Forza Horizon 4 was playable in VR.

How does the motion controls work?

The DS4 essentially works like a steering wheel in your hand. This control method is poor on a 2d screen. But in VR as it maps to the steering wheel in front of your face, it takes on a whole new meaning giving precision and immersion.

Golem comes out soon in the US. Already out in UK I think. Impressions are very solid so far. One of main programmers from Halo CE and Marty O'Donnell composed. Development was almost 4 years.

Very interesting premise. You play as a disabled child that can transport herself into a fantasy setting were she controls a giant monster, golem. Its interesting because you still see you bedroom while in the fastasy world by leaning back.

Man it felt like forever for this game to come out.

When is that Mario kart type VR game coming out? I'd really rather something like a prettier driveclub but that game might be good.

Wow, it just sounds better and better.

Huge game
Best VR visuals he's ever seen(vive and psvr owner)
Great combat
Lots of secrets
Interesting story
Rogue like

Dude plays a ton of VR games and he says it's the best VR game he's ever played.

Huge surprise. Gonna make a thread in main discussion.

This seems almost too good to be true. Is he a reliable source?

In my experience yes. Theres also 2 more streams out and both really liked it, and were shocked it actually turned out good. The only complaint I've heard is the controls take getting used to, but aren't bad. Supposedly it can be difficult also.

I never thought this game would release and definitely never thought I'd want to try it. But I'm definitely curious now.

Okay, Paul's full review is out.

10/10

I've been keeping up with his channel for two years and never seen him give a perfect psvr score.

He describes it as a souls like. Difficult and very rewarding.

lol wtf

The fact that this game somehow still existed was already shocking. To hear that it doesn't suck would have been even more shocking. To hear that it might be extremely good just seems impossible, but I want to believe.

Yeah, even if it ends up an 8/10 for me that will be incredible. I had given up hope.

I give the devs credit for pushing through.

Do you know how he felt about the following games.........?

1. AstroBot
2. Thumper
3. Beat Saber
4. Blood and Truth
5. Moss

Those are my 5 litmus test type games. If a reviewer hated them all or thought they were average, I know I can't trust them.

I just noticed that LA Noire VR was on sale on PSN, so I checked Amazon, and it's even cheaper for a physical copy. I really have no idea if this is supposed to be any good but I grabbed a copy.

Scratch that, it was the non-VR version and I had to cancel the order lol

My Black Friday VR mega set is on its way! Quite excited because I've never tried VR gaming before.
(closest thing I've done is google cardboard on my old galaxy phone on some VR news coverage that I was working on)

Everyone's saying great things about Astrobot - so I'm super excited to try out. Also RE7 - I am ready to sh*t my pants.... alone at night screaming! Other games - Skyrim and Everyone's golf - I've played Morrowind long time ago just a little bit (wasn't really my cup of tea) - so not sure what to expect. Everyone's golf - last time I played was on PS1 - I hope the move controller isn't a must for this game.

Question: is Move controller worth getting it/enhances the experience? I like to play games just relaxing & sitting down - the games like Beat Saber sounds like simple enough to understand and sounds fun... but not so sure of other uses - as I'm not the biggest fan of the wii-mote control scheme...

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
After all the hype that Astro Bot has been getting here and the fact that it's on sale finally got me to dust off my PSVR after it's spent about a year in the cabinet below my TV.

I played the game for about 20 minutes, through the first two levels. It's definitely a great game and a really good showcase that not every VR game has to be first person.

However, I remembered why I put my headset up last time - the VR sickness is real with me. After I was done (I made a point not to play too long) I got really nauseous. I went to be feeling pretty ill. Here I am over 12 hours later and still feeling the effects.

YES! Please get 2 Move controllers. If you want to get full use out of your PSVR headset.

You could try some motion sickness tablets or ginger, I hope you get better dude.

Took some cannabis edibles and I'm sleeping it off.

I know the conventional wisdom here is "keep playing a little bit at a time until you're used to it" but I'm not sure if I'll be able to power through this particular issue.

I'm wondering if it's just something inherent in the PlayStation VR PlayStation VR (low resolution, maybe) or if it's all VR systems. I'm eyeing that Valve Index / Half Life Alyx like "Well, how bad could it be?". I don't know why I do this to myself, I need to just going back to playing flat games.

Golem use supersampling in PS4 Pro, that could be first and only game that use it in PSVR at the moment.
I expect to see a lot more supersapling in PSVR when PS5 is released.

I'd find out if any stores nearby do VR demos and check out the PC stuff to see if it's a resolution issue. I kinda doubt it, unfortunately. I think it's just that odd thing where your brain believes strongly enough that you're moving and can't reconcile that with the physical reality that you aren't. I wish I knew a real solution.

I've read PSVR makes more people prone to motion sickness than other headsets due to lower framerate in most games. (usually 60fps interpolated to 120 inside the headset, vs real 90/120fps) There is also the whole drifting, z-wobbling and some plain badly made games that somehow passed certification.

As I used it a few minutes at a time I feel like I developed some kind of sixth sense in that I feel like when I'm about to get nauseous, I stop and the feeling goes away in a couple of minutes.

Real advice? Put a fan blowing in front of your face, it helped me a lot. (I also turn on the air conditioner and that keeps the sweat away). I feel like I am more prone to nausea when I'm hungry for some reason. I have never taken ginger or pills of any kind.

Try to demo another headset. Best buy has setups.

Finally joining the PSVR train.
I've been interested in the tech since day one and am really excited for VR in general.
There were two things holding me back previously, no PS4 Pro (since I want the best PSVR perform) and not enough space in my flat.

Well I bought the Pro earlier this year and recently moved into a much bigger house with my own dedicated gaming room.

Managed to get a PSVR for free when I upgraded my phone contract recently and am really looking forward to playing through Astro Bot, Wipeout, Tetris Effect, Beat Saber and RE7.

I've never suffered from any kind of motion sickness in the past but up until this point my only experience has been an hour playing Wipeout on PSVR.

I played that Wipeout for an hour straight with no break and Wipeout is pretty fast so I imagine that if I was gonna experience motion/VR sickness then I would have experienced it then?

Nice. That's pretty impressive. You might be like me and well suited for VR.
With games where you're walking, I'd still take it slow though at first and if you feel queasy, stop. Pushing it is where the problem starts.

How was the experience overall? Did you feel the drastic sense of presence and scale? Had you tried it previously?

Ah ok, I'll make sure that I don't get cocky and overdo it then, especially since I haven't tried a game where you walk. I'm guessing I'll have to play RE7 in smaller bursts then.

I absolutely loved every second of my hour with Wipeout VR and instantly fell in love with the tech. I do own the game already on PS4 so had some experience with the tracks already but the sense of speed in VR was unbelievable. I also don't usually play in cockpit view as I find it pretty difficult but in VR I found it much easier than I usually do. It just felt like I had a better view and I felt way more 'connected' with the vehicle. I just fell into a kind of trance and felt completely immersed in the experience.

I know it was only an hour but it was def one of my favourite gameplay experiences this gen so far. I can't wait to play more and try out different experiences as well.

Great. Yeah part of the connection you feel is presence in the game world. Depth perception allows for better timing in VR, which is next to zero looking at a flat screen.

I would try Astrobot before RE7. Just to help you get acclimated even more.

RE7 has a good amount of options for movement too, and you want to build yourself up to smooth movement. If you're as resilient as it sounds, you might be there in less than an hour.

You really play better in VR. I was Elite Passing Zone events on the first try. I had to retry several times for the same events when I had 2048 on the Vita.

So, my VR unit arrived today! After hooking up the unit and while downloading the megapack bundle (RE7, VR World, Everone's Golf, Skyrim, and Astrobot) - I tried out the VR Room demo that automatically appeared on the main menu.

My first VR experience ever - was doing some UFO catcher thingie. Neat. The screen, I thought it was little blurry & low-res, but for the price of $199... it's pretty understandable, I guess. The whole tracking was pretty accurate and natural - and field of vision was much better than what I expected. (my only other trying VR was google cardboard years ago, lol) Hopefully the future revision of PSVR would have a much higher resolutions.

Next one was Astrobot Rescue mission - music sound very much like a Mario rip-off and the booster reminded me the Mario Sunshine - but I really really enjoyed it! Those little creatures were super adorable, but when it start scrolling - my stomach just churned with motion sickness. Nothing unbearable, but I decided to call it a day. Maybe about 30min of playtime.

I did boot up the RE7 on regular TV mode though - and for weird reason, the effect of slight motion sickness persisted even though I was not on VR set. Perhaps it's an after effect - but man.. the game looks disturbing... even though I only played like 5 min. Very much looking forward to play the game on full VR mode, but I'll be sure to wear an adult diaper or sort... lol

One thing that I realized though - was that I do need a better HDMI cable. Mine is ultra slim monoprice one - supposedly good enough for 4k HDR - but occasionally it dropped the signal when playing 4k HDR content on PS4 Pro. (black outs and sometimes grainy picture, sometimes just total signal loss) - it was just occasional symptom, so I let it for now - but since now I hooked up the VR processing unit - I can't display the 4k HDR nor any deep colors. :(

Please don't play RE7 in VR until you play at least 5-10 hours of other VR games. I don't want you to get sick.
