PlayStation VR Thread 2: Reloaded

I think part of the real reason for Microsoft not doing VR on console at the moment is the Xbox One being weaker than the PS4, so it could struggle a little or wouldn't be as good as PSVR and they are not doing exclusives on the X, so VR is tricky for them at the moment on console.

I really hate the term "Killer App" though, it's a poor excuse to be honest. I mean, do all the great VR games we have right now, suddenly not count ? I'd rather have a selection really good games, than only 1 great game but if games like Resident Evil 7, Superhot and Star Trek (to name a few) are not "killer apps" then I don't know what is.

I remember Microsoft saying the only thing that will be exclusive on X are the VR stuff.

Clearly they are not interested in lower end VR then, sucks for Xbox fans who might want to get into VR though, as PSVR has proven that you don't need a high end system to do enjoyable VR.

Xbox one is less powerful than PS4 after all. Most of the VR game is already sub-hd on PS4, so that's understandable. PS4 Pro handles VR nicely, falling on the "budget PC VR range".

Although, you can't even say that, considering they aren't even planning on X vr for now...
Kudos to Sony for joining the VR market as a console early on. For higher end VR, Sony is the only one accessible world wide especially in Asia.

So MS is pretty much out of the VR "race" on consoles? Good for Sony, not so much for VR though.

About these new controllers for PSVR, don't know how I feel about that, I'd rather they release completely new moves when PSVR2.0 hits, because these merely upgraded moves with analogue sticks for PSVR would still have to use the glowing orbs and therefore would be useless/extremely outdated when PSVR2.0 hits.

Not gonna shell out 99$ for two upgraded controllers, that's for sure.

They are focusing on the MR for PC (more on professional and education use), which is VR + AR stuff. But yea, seems like they aren't joining VR gaming soon.

Yeah, Sony took a risk with VR but it seems to have paid off and I'm glad they did, even with it's limitations, PSVR is still awesome.

Can't agree more, I was there since day 1 and it was and still is a fantastic ride, even on the vanilla PS4. Although I have to admit that the Pro really does tie the PSVR experience together ;)

Thats not true, because they have been saying they are prioritizing VR on PC since day one when they announces their VR initiative with Acer and others. They did say VR will only come to Scorpio next year, so Its just not something they are focusing yet considering how far away that is.

They are positioning VR for all-rounder use, including non-gaming stuffs and businesses use first and foremost.

I'm DEEP into the PSVR hole now.
Budget cut for every upcoming games in 2017.
Had to skip Splatoon 2 and Xenoblade 2 (unless it turns out to be crazy good) for more VR games, I'm cutting my Switch upcoming library to only Rabbids x Mario and Odyssey.
Upcoming PS4 games reduced to only Uncharted Lost Legacy, Horizon DLC. Skipping Destiny 2, NFS, Battlefront 2 and COD. (would've bought both Battlefront and COD if they had VR stuff)

Waiting for impression: Archangel, Infinite Minigolf, Smashbox Arena, Tiny Trax, Theseus.
Confirmed: Skyrim VR, Doom VFR, Dino Frontier, Superhot VR, The Persistence, Bravo Team, Giant Cop, FFXV fishing, Rom Extraction, Raw Data.

I wouldn't consider a year is far away. If they are saying "not actively developing", that will be years away for sure. But I'm sure that's just PR speak, no way they aren't actively making it.

They are actively making, but more like thats something they are not ready to talk yet. currently their focus should be on the Acer and HP headsets to be releasing few months later from now

Skip ROM Extraction, its more like a short demo with incomplete content.

Hmm, seems like the "Microsoft General Manager Dave McCarthy confirms that Microsoft are not currently developing Xbox One X VR capabilities." is just another interpretation by VRFocus and wasn't what he said.

Also they confirmed to be adding more content for Rom, that's why the release is not that soon. I know that the current PC version content is extremely limited with only 1 map (?). Hopefully they will expand it, looks like a flashy fun arcade shooting game.

Anyone excited about, or preordering Tiny Trax? Futurelab make some great games and this seems like it was developed from the ground up for VR.

Yeah pre-ordered it the min it went up, i have got so much free gaming from them can hardly moan getting velocity and velocity 2x (& cocanut doge + surge) on PS+ felt like it was time i finally gave them some money, plus they always nail gameplay and visuals so super exicted to see this game!

Cant read that link on my iphone. But they did say 2018 for Xbox, and for PC this year, its natural for them to talk about VR for PC first.

The devs for ROM Extraction has been saying "more content" for more than half year. Right now it only has 15 mins of gameplay (and its priced at $20), and sees no tease of new maps or weapons. Even if new content drops within this year, it will increase the playtime to maybe 40 mins, realistically speaking.

its also a fixed position game, so you cant move around the places, and you only hold one weapon at a time, because theres no other weapon for you to switch.

Go get Raw Data instead.

My honest opinion is that MS shouldn't even consider letting the standard XB1 in on VR. With the console struggling to hit 1080p on its best days, it'd likely "Arizona Sunshine" most VR experiences. Cutting the XB1 and XB1S also does provide them with options that PSVR currently doesn't have. For example, you could have stuff like Project Cars and Elite Dangerous run fully in VR, because they won't have to concern themselves with being able to run on base-level hardware.

Of course, this leaves them with the issue of a drastically reduced potential userbase, which is likely why they see it making sense on establishing their headset on the PC side first, and then piggybacking off any Win10 VR support for XB1X.

This late in the game, I think MS will skip VR this gen (on console) and wait for their next gen Xbox before they jump in with console VR, then they won't have to worry about splitting the user base and have better hardware for it.

Possibly. However if they'rw using standard Windows based headsets, then I don't think it matters as much. They can simply allow XB1X to play any VR content that's easily moved across from PC. They don't have to worry about which headset generation interacts with which console generation, as the headsets aren't proprietary.

FAQ THREAD (Last updated 07/17/2017)
Hello new fans! It is an honor to have you all join our community group.
I wanted to provide you all with some answers to FAQ before i start responding to questions sent on Reddit.
➡️ Will Seeking Dawn see a PSVR port?
Sony approached us about the port, so we are confident that one will be released, but because its all contract and certification based, we can't "officially" confirm a PSVR release until everything is signed, so we will keep you updated!
➡️ If/when it comes to PSVR will it support AIM Controllers?
We would be fools to not have AIM support, so you can bet we will optimize it, as well as provide support to Playstation Move and any other hardware Sony decides to launch to support the platform.
➡️ What is this "Ambassador Program" i keep hearing about?
The Ambassador program is a program designed to give the community an opportunity to win exclusives such as in-game cosmetics, physical Seeking Dawn memorabilia, beta access, a copy of the game, etc. You earn these rewards by referring people to join the program and our community though the dedicated Ambassador Program website.
- There are 2 tiers to the program: Affiliate and Ambassador
- You will be able to track your referral points on the website
- You will be able to compete/rank amongst your peers in a referral ranking ladder on the website
➡️ Will you be attending PAX Prime or Gamescom and have a booth?
We registered to PAX and we are awaiting a response. We will not be attending Gamescom this year but we will be attending ChinaJoy this week (07/20/2017)
➡️ What is Seeking Dawn about?
- Our game is a Survival Action RPG/FPS. Additionally major features of the game include crafting, cooking, and base building.
- Our campaign/story mode can be played fully in co-op or solo. Additionally our campaign is larger than Farpoint and Arizona Sunshine combined.
- You can expect hundreds of hours of gameplay either by yourself or with your best friend as you explore, search for resources, and craft the best weapons.
- The game also features PVP but more info on this will be disclosed later ;)

Star Trek Bridge Crew is sooooo good. Played it for 3 hours with friends and jumped into a random group afterwards to give it a try. BEST VR multiplayer game out there! I love it!

Woah. Wasn't expecting that price point. It looks smart. They've clearly invested in the production values. But that's too much for me to take a chance on. There's not even a pre-order discount. I've seen people asking for review codes but the devs haven't responded AFAIK.

Face palm Edit - that's AUS$ not US. Hmm. Maybe I will then.

Definitely. I'm ok with on rails games; I used to love old light gun games. The trailers have been great so far.

I'd have preordered it already but of course it's not on NA PSN yet.

Yeah. I remember paying £50 for PS1 and Saturn light gun games. Not sure why I'm doubting a £35 game 20 years later.

Just grabbed me some PSN credit. Definitely getting SUPERHOT, might get Archangel too.

Just got done playing about an hour or so of superhot (review copy). Absolutely loving it. Misses out on the movement mechanics from the original but more than makes up for it with the physical dodging. I looked an absolute wreck by the end of it.

Be warned you do need a fair bit of space and you'll have to be standing. At times I was swinging punches a good few feet in front of me. Tracking can get a bit off sometimes, particularly went it comes to throwing weapons, but I've kind of got used to that stuff with psvr now.

Did Driveclub VR ever get proper Pro improvements? I gave up on the game on the original PS4 because the IQ was horrific and the lighting was incredibly dim and dull. Does the Pro have any improvements in that regard? $12 isn't much to hop back in.

I just bought this last week. The game does have some minor Pro enhancements (added reflections and no foveated resolution). However, it's still one of the blurrier VR PSVR games out there.. at least for things not close up.

Regardless, I do think it's worth owning. Slightly blurry landscapes doesn't detract all that much from what is an otherwise excellent VR experience. There is a lot of polish to the interface and the feeling of being in a car. I'm just playing the single player Tour mode and enjoying it a lot. Also, saving and rewatching replays in VR is great because you can ride shotgun and look all around.

hmm can't decide if i should upgrade to a PS4 Pro, i would be mainly for PSVR use, so far i have been a bit unimpressed by the resolution of some games on the standard PS4. Is there a huge diffrence?

Dumb question, but prepurchased SUPERHOT VR for PSVR, but didnt see in the store that there was a version thats just SUPERHOT and a bundle that includes both.

Is SUPERHOT worth purchasing in addition to SUPERHOT VR?

I believe it is. I didn't because my backlog is big enough right now that I don't think I'd get around to it though.

I was SO excited from E3 for Archangel but after seeing it played and seeing it is on-rails, I am weening off it. It just seemed to become a bit more generic from what I've seen.

They are two different games from my understanding.

Superhot was originally a "walk-through mission" game and then later had the VR version where you stand still in situations (and maybe teleport move?). So they are very much different products.

I know I got the bundle.

I just got my PSVR only played with it 2 days and I noticed alot of what I played is ugly, not sure if it just happens to be what I played or what. I hope thats not the case but im also thinking of getting a pro for it but i would have to take a big loss on the ps4 trade in/sale to do it. Not knowing how the difference is annoying and also want to know this from people who had both.

I downloaded that Call of Duty spaceship demo and holy shit was that fun. I really, really want a full game like that. Is there any more if you buy the full game? How close is Eve? And I looked in the store and didn't see anything but is there anything else like it?

Also, I keep reading that Dirt VR is a lot better than DriveClub but not why. Are the graphics just a lot better? I love racing games and I've been having a lot of fun with DC VR, I'm tempted to get Dirt but GT Sport is right around the corner, curious how exactly Dirt is more impressive before I spend more money on games.

What's awesome about Dirt Rally is you can play any and every race or mode in VR. It's not a paired down experience like Drive Club VR is (correct me if I'm wrong?). Graphically it's also a lot better looking, less fuzzy generally, and the guardrails for minimizing motion sickness are all very good/helpful (and can be disabled if you have good VR legs).

The only knock against Dirt Rally is it is HARD. You will lose a lot before you finally get the hang of things. I haven't played Drive Club VR other than the demo, so I can't speak to its difficulty in comparison.

So quick question about Brookhaven; the weapon and item upgrades. Are they randomly spawned throughout the levels or do they pop up automatically on each level? Like you'll always get weapon x on level Y? I feel like I'm having a bear of a time beating the sewers.
