PlayStation VR2 |OT| I heard it has a single cable. Is this true?

That's why you dont buy vr locked to console. That and the number of strange and interesting VR experiences you can't have because of Sony's curated marketplace.
The headsets aren't THAT expensive (relatively speaking), if you want to be able to play the exclusive stuff on the PS5 and the shared stuff relatively hassle free, then you get it for that, and if you want to get in to modding games and doing porn or 3D movies you get it for PC, and probably even a bit cheaper depending on what you need out of it.

Given the reception of GT7 and RE8 and potentially other games tied under Sony's leash (astrobot, wipeout, who knows what else they get exclusive, maybe RE4 VR etc) owning multiple headsets seems ideal, just like owning multiple gaming platforms - especially when one game like GT7 can make the device worth it for just that single game.

My gf played pistol whip for the first time and I had to make sure she didn't destroy the furniture, she literally thought she was in the game, dodging the bullets coming at her. I had to help her from the floor a few times.
There’s a level where you don’t have any bullets and just have to pistol whip the enemies, whilst dodging hundreds of bullets and walls. I had one go and thought I was going to pass out. If your gf has a go at that level, well, I just hope you have good home and life insurance. 😂

Has anyone been playing Pavlov fully seated? Like increase your floor height manually as when I sit down I seem to be kneeling. I know it's supposed to be standing but I'm lazy.

Also I have to keep creating my play area as it says none found. I mean come on! Anyone else get that?

I hope more games have vr modes and sony are actively thinking about this rather than "experiences"

The downside right now is most games appear not to be using it. When I questioned the after the fall community manager why the game isn’t using foveated rendering since the game is running at 60 fps reprojected (looks like dog shit I might add) I was told the devs only worked on the haptics and that foveated rendering wasn’t providing this huge performer uptick.

Carmack has gone in record to say it doesn’t provide much performance increase, and been the devs that actually implemented it (song in the smoke) seem to suggest it didn’t add much performance on their interview with that digital foundry dude.

The only reference I’ve seen to psvr 2 being a beast is from the pavlov devs saying it ran 10 % better than his 3090 ti rig. He didn’t mention foveated rendering though, but I’m going to assume it uses it like song in the smoke does.
Rather than a performance uptick, the better way to look at it is to achieve the same performance while increasing the sharpness of the focus area (by decreasing the sharpness of everywhere else).

is the verdict that the VR is blurry on GT7? At least on gtplanet they saying that.

Depends on what people mean at this point. It's lower res than the flat version and it has heavy aa to keep the image stable. Hard to say if someone would find it blurry or not. Blurry compared to other headsets? to tv's? to other games on psvr2? Me, I can read the badges off the back of cars in front of me so imo that's pretty sharp.

Hybrid is the key to VR becoming mainstream as a gaming device. What are you talking about man? Have you seen what people are saying about GT7 and RE8

No it's not, and it's been proven not to be the case for years now. Hybrid didn't start in 2023.

i don't see why you would think GT7 and RE8 are going to be significant steps into making VR becoming a "mainstream" device anymore than RE7 and GT Sport did.

I can read all the dials and the cluster, it's clear as hell. You have to remember that many people aren't taking the time to find the sweet spot for clarity. It takes a good 10-15 to adjust. They're probably playing something that looks close to 720p though without the sweet spot, so it make sense they would say that

Carmack was comparing to fixed foveated rendering, ie always having anything off the screen center in lower quality whether you're actually looking at it or not, which is obviously a huge compromise done for games that can't maintain decent performance on Quest or anywhere. You'd never find such a compromise acceptable in non VR games and it shouldn't be acceptable in VR either as it essentially reduces an already limited FOV. What it should be compared to is having no foveated rendering, everything in high quality no matter where you're looking as that's the quality achieved 🤷‍♂️

It's been demonstrated many times & pretty definitively outside theoretical claims:

I think it depends on what you're used to and your expectations. If you've been playing on a 4K TV and come in expecting something similar, then yeah, it's going to look fuzzy. Compared to a 1080p display, maybe not so much. I admittedly haven't been blown away by the clarity being used to razor sharp flat displays and understanding that's just how it goes with VR, but the immersion and depth makes up for it.

My only issue with GT VR is that it feels like the player avatar is small. I don't know if there is a way to change this. Its not a huge deal though. Sadly I haven't been in the mood to play much more than that.

I think a bigger deal is being made of it than it really is. It's definitely capable of amazing looking VR games.

Are they crystal clear edge to edge? No but they are pretty clear where you point your headset and look great.

I've heard people say the further out objects are the less detail they have. True and it's also true of every video game. Depends how far out your looking.

I've seen people post nasty GT shots of it in motion. Most games have motion blur and so does real life. On the flip side of that I've stopped my car middle of the track and was floored at the great looking textures all around me.

The bigger titles like GT, RE8, Horizon and the smaller games like Job Simulator and cosmonious high look very good.

Cinematic mode which is only 1080p for now would be equivalent to a 226" screen. I know 4k games look better on my 42 inch 4k than they do on my 70" 4k set. The larger you blow it up the more any image will suffer. 226 is pretty big and VR is a bit bigger.

Anyway games look fooking great. Have some GT. The picnic thr car in the beginning Here is the game at its finest. Skip halfway through and you'll see GT in action.

Here's RE in PSVR

Now the immersion of being there is king though. That's proper amazing.

I agree. I feel like we need to zoom out just a touch In a few games. I think we get there though. This has been the first round of games.

We need that and a higher res video player.

It’s a great fit with pancake lenses on the quest pro since pancakes have a huge “sweet spot” in comparison to fresnel.

I think the comments about GT7 being blurry is not the stuff that is close to you like the interior, steering wheel etc. It is the stuff in the distance, like when on a straight away, if a car is pretty far up in front of you, it is blurry as is the environments and road side details. For me, I have the sweet spot right on and the wheel, interior of the car and the exterior of the hood of the car are crystal clear but as your vision looks further, it is blurry. Not too bad, but it can look blurry. We also have to remember it takes a lot of GPU/CPU power to drive games in VR due to them having to maintain a higher framerate so it does not feel aweful, so to counter this they have to make visual cutbacks and things being blurry in the distance is a tradeoff.

lol I was thinking the same thing last night. The player avatar has the thinest shortes legs I have ever seen on someone...it like really odd looking.

I've seen these videos, really amazing. I think it's maybe about VR or tech knowledge. I have a C1 48 but I don't expect it's sharpness on VR2, I do expect the color and black level to look like the C1, do they look close to that?

My VR2 is coming only on July or later, but I have great hype

I played the PSVR1 again today. The difference is huge and it's defects more apparent now. We tend to remember some things better than they really were.

Try to move to front than press center button then go back to your position or try oposite :d generaly you can adjust with this trick and pressing center button (other way I hear look at bottom of seat, center, if still not ok now look at center of wheel, center)

Man, somehow I didn't notice Call of the Mountain had a VR Safari.

THAT is what I'm going to show people before I let them actually play a game. Damn, what a surprisingly incredible experience.

I only wish they had some of the second games bigger beasts, like a Tremor Tusk. But still, im in no way disappointed with that,.

he means the driver in the seat is a tiny man. It's noticeable. I'm 6'4, 220. Dude is 5'6, 165 in the car. It's fine, but takes some getting used to.

it's night and day. I tried it before I gave it away to a local after school center with my PS4 Pro last week, along with some gaMES (small community center), and I was pretty shocked how bad it was. I hadn't used it in a very long time.

I'm not sure I don't own a C1. The most beautiful picture I've seen in VR has been the kayak game. Very colorful and where there is shade it does look beautiful.

Dont expect anything close to tv quality, sweet spot is realy small and out of it there will be blurines, 60fps to 120fps reprojections bring ghosting and even if its best vr headset in terms of brightnes and colors is still far from tv. But still Im very happy with purchase, gt7 is awsome, I have no motion sickness (which I had with psvr1) and have joy of playing like on new console etc. Not sure when I go back to flat gamming (had like 8h in Hogwarts and wanted to check Yakuza Ishin) but vr2 is just more interesting for now.

PSVR 2 all of a sudden turned off my TV feed. How do I turn it back on so my family can see the screen while I play?
Changed channels on my TV while someone demoed GT7 vr at my place and something similar happened.

They got a kicked to home screen I think, and when I changed the input back to Ps5, the screen remained black until we managed to get them back into GT7.

Would like more input on this as well..!

Yeah I would not agree at all here. I would say it's definitely lower resolution in the far distance but nowhere near "blurry." Something isn't right to use that word. Ipd distance or the sweetspot is not 100%. It might be 80% but to use that word is revealing that there is a problem. Either way the tradeoff of presence and scale is so enormous its a minuscule nitpick.

Further, I think the close to medium distance visuals are better because you can actually see them in 3d.

Wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I had my DuelSense on while playing in VR. I did notice that the DS had auto turned off
as I was trying to figure out the TV feed issue.

So I got a 10’ extension cable so I could use the more open area of my living room. The area right in front of the TV is just a tad too small for “room scale”.

Really so much better this way. I noticed the cubicle in Job Simulator is way larger now and I think has more stuff to interact with.

I don’t have to move any furniture now, just start playing.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but no, you would be setting your expectations too high. I have an S95B QD-OLED, and the colors and contrast (and clarity) in VR just don't compare to a high-end 4K OLED. Games are just far punchier with richer colors on my TV. It all looks great for what it is, don't get me wrong, I just wouldn't suggest setting that as the bar for your expectations. You should still be hyped though, it's terrific regardless.

If you are looking at something distant, you are focusing out on a pretty tiny patch of the display.

I figured with the FOV Rendering where ever i looked would be sharp.

but as i look at things in GT7 on the track while driving none of it is sharp. just the car im in.

I wonder why the foveated rendering isn’t more aggressive. Seems like it could be used better in these situations

There's only so many physical pixels there, though. You can even render higher and downscale but there's only so much you can do.

There appears to be some kind of coating that lets the pixels bleed together and hide screen door (which would supposedly be worse than an lcd screen door), but I does't think there's too much known about it yet. That would be the other option, but it shouldn't effect objects close or far in the game differently so not sure if it fits.

Actually, if you are focusing on a small part of the screen and you are seeing that pixel bleed effect, that is when you would otherwise be seeing screen door. So it's kinda both.

is the verdict that the VR is blurry on GT7? At least on gtplanet they saying that.

This is a hard question to answer because it really depends on your eyesight and overall expectations.

It doesn't look the same as what you see on a 4K HDR TV. If you're expecting the same crisp graphics you see in 2D then you'll be disappointed. Objects in the distance appear softer, and small text is much harder to read. For example, distance boards aren't really legible until you're about 5 car lengths away. UI text can also be hard to read, but I believe you can remedy this by increasing the screen size in cinema mode. Objects in your peripheral will also appear "blurry" due to the foveated rendering, which isn't a big deal.

That said, cockpit view, AI/opponent cars, and parts of the track that are in close proximity look fantastic. The immersion you get from VR absolutely outweighs the moderate downgrade in picture quality. Each track feels like a brand new experience, and it's probably some of the most fun I've ever had in terms of video games/simracing.

So my answer is: No it's not blurry, assuming you have good eyesight or wear contacts. Yes there are downgrades to picture quality, but it doesn't make the game unplayable in any way. The game looks good where it matters, and it's easy to get immersed. I highly recommend it, unless you feel you aren't willing to compromise on graphics, at least a little.

Yeah PSVR2 is far from OLED tv, I have few years old Sony A8H / A85 55" and psvr looks almost like lcd compared to it.

Colors are not as vivid, they are more like LCD colors.

Black levels just seems "off" somehow, maybe it is the "mura" effect or something like that.

Like in kayak game, at night it just looks like shit basically. Mura makes it feel like you are sitting there with some kind of thin bag on your head and you see the environment trough it, it is super obvious and basically ruins the experience.

Also mura isnt even uniform, at least on my unit, so there are tiny variation between how bright it is, like there are maybe 20-30 vertical lines/zones where that mura-pixel-net-thing is maybe 5-10% darker/lighter. So when you look around it is even easier to be annoyed by it. Kind of like having a thin bag + ice hockey helmet with that steel guard without horizontal bars.

Maybe it is better in other games, but I doubt it as there is nothing you can do to remove the mura. It is also way too strong on bright games like horizon, but bit better.

My friend tested my unit (only in horizon demo, didnt try darker games) and I asked did she notice it and she said "I dont think so", so maybe it also depends of your eyes/brain.

I use glasses and she uses contact lenses, dunno if it depends also if you have little bit bad eye sight with or without glasses, mine is better than people with good eye sight with glasses on, and hers is bit worse.
