Playtonic unveils Yooka-Laylee (Banjo Kazooie successor) [Kickstarter LIVE - Funded]

I love how they are using *that* picture of David Wise with his saxophone. It was all over the Tropical Freeze thread.

It's kinda neat to be a part of this as a Rare fan. :)

No I for sure remember. They have always made beautiful games. I just mean, I can't believe its actually happening. That this game is real and we are going to get to play it.

Ah, that makes more sense. Yeah. It's a good time to be a Banjo fan I guess, even if the bear (and bird) are only here in spirit.

Daaamn this thing got waaay bigger than I expected.

I planned on backing, but I don't even have to anymore =P

Great to see this game getting made, good job Playtonic!

*sniff* My old, dear friends... It's been so long. Too long.

... Glad to see you back. I'm already counting down the days until this is released.

Coming home to all of this new info and funding is like a surprise feast, with Wise and Kirkhope as the live performers.
So yeah I'm pretty excited.

Everyone is talking about David Wise and Grant Kirkhope, but I can't wait to see what Steve Burke comes up with. The OST is going to be amazing.

I want to be playing this game and come across a track that makes me think "is this glorious tune Wise or Kirkhope?" only to be swerved by it being Burke making a musical impact.

Controls, gameplay, and world design. The possibilities offered to you in the older games, both in moves and exploration, are not really present in the newer platformers. I don't see how being able to do FAR more stuff means it won't be relevant anymore.

I get real suspect when you bring up DK64 as some highlight. I had a lot of fun with that game but I'm not sure its aged as well as you think it has in your head. Anyway, there are certainly obvious differences in how their levels/worlds are structured but for some reason you seem to think one is inherently better than the other? It's fine if you have your preferences but the level/world structured in the Mario 3D games are nowhere near "dumbed down", that' just an absurd statement to make. Controls and gameplay are pretty nebulous so I'm not really sure how to address them. I guess you are one of those who feel that because Mario has lost some moves from Mario 64 to the present that the later games are inherently inferior (if I've made a wrong assumption forgive me but that seems to be what's going on here)?

Anyway, as your personal opinion its absolutely fine if you prefer the earlier games but calling the later games "dumbed down" or trying to argue a large swath of players agree with your peculiar opinion is an endeavor I don't expect to be fruitful for you.

The idea of using Pagies to (optionally) expand each world with new land to explore, challenges to overcome, etc., is such a simple but brilliant idea. And I love how you can do it all post-game, if you wish to focus on clearing out the standard worlds and unlocking the full moveset first.

For as successful as this Kickstarter is turning out to be, this is still pretty small-time money when it comes to game development. And with Crash, you'd have to add licensing costs in addition to actually making the game.

Not if you call him Cush Randycoat and let kickstarter backers handle you dev costs ;)

First update just happened. They mention the possibilities of a fully orchestrated soundtrack and physical copies for every platform. Guess those might be future stretch goal ideas.

Bleeding Norah, the Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter was only live for 40 minutes before you went and funded it!
The Playtonic team would like to sincerely thank you for your incredible support. From day one your response to our studio has amazed us – and now we can give you a bigger game, on your games platform of choice.
But it’s not over yet: Crowdfunding will help us increase the scope of Yooka-Laylee, and if we do even better we'll be able to deliver some real dream features like a fully orchestrated soundtrack and simultaneous, physical release on all platforms.
Thanks again for backing - let's resurrect the buddy-duo platformer!

I hope we see more games like this one in the future. I loved crash and donkey kong country games.
I like the artstyle but the character designs are not very appealing to me. Gameplay i am guessing is in too early stages.

If I back this can I just get a copy of Nuts and Bolts on PC as well?

I just don't understand how these games died. They were great back in the day, if I actually stand back and look at the current situation in gaming it actually saddens me. DLC corruption, mostly horrible Free-to-Plays that prey on the weak minded, FPS after FPS, dark edgy game after dark edgy game.

It's time to do some backing. These characters are just too adorable. If I were to give any criticism though, I think the "eye-balls on everything" thing is a bit pandering.

What are Pagies?

I just don't understand how these games died.

Games "grew up" and became mature and cinematic.

Classic team gets spiritual successor funded in record time on Kickstarter. I feel like I've read this story before and the ending always sucks.

Microsoft basically neutered Rare. But I think that's putting it kindly. These kinds of games are all over the place on Nintendo consoles, just not as much on others. But happy they broke away and using their legit talents to make this game independently.

All I want from this game is basically an exact copy of the original Banjo-Kazooie structure. Change characters and items and names and levels, but make it the same. And I'll be happy.

I'm really tempted to get one of the physical copy tiers. I'd love to have the game in a box. I will definitely get the Wii U version when it comes out. Just put it in a physical case. Even if I also get a digital code, I still want something to look pretty on my shelf.

But have we seen any video of gameplay at all yet? I trust they know what they're doing. I just fear they might give into making it more modern... or something... whatever, just don't make it play like Nuts and Bolts. Grunty was wrong, I DO want to collect hundreds of thingamajigs. I DO want a collectathon.

Holy shit. This funded FAST. The Toe Jam and Earl kickstarter, took a long time to reach this although unorganized from the beginning.

I'm really excited the game has same screen co-op as well. Not enough games do that now days, should be really fun for me and my wife to play through together.

Huh? Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity and Shadowrun all turned out to be good. You don#t know what you are talking about.
