New stretch goals adds more funding for polish and new features. :p

More features = takes longer + more risk of going over-budget = more risk of not delivering in time + more risks in failing the project.

Making stretch goals is dangerous. Kickstarter made a big article about this some time ago. They could say "twice the levels if we reach two million", but that could have severe consequences. I'm sure they'll come up with something though, if need be.

46 days to go, so I can hold off on backing of the soundtrack edition for now right? I want to back it, but I need to wait til after my birthday.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
Awesome! They have my money. That soundtrack already gave me Banjo-Kazooie vibes.

I don't think this necessarily targets the same audience as Sonic All Stars. Sonic games have been catering to kids for a while now, which is why they did so well on consoles like Wii. This KS didn't get funded in 40 minutes because kids are busting out their credit cards. It's because people who were 10-16 in the late 90s when the platformers on the N64 that this is making no bones about drawing influence from were released are now grown adults with disposable income. This is the audience of gamers that are probably now all splintered across various consoles. This is why it was really smart of them to not separate consoles by different stretch goals like a lot of KS's do. Just put it out on everything and make it clear it's coming to everything.

No I don't agree at all. They're very much a similar audience. Yes it's true, this backing is mainly done by people longing for the old days of Banjo Kazooie, but kickstarters are often a very small percentage of the final sales (even in other cases of games where they target specific enthusiasts, e.g. Shovel Knight.) The KS of this game will be more split toward the other consoles, I agree, but ultimately this will cater primarily to kids and those with a penchant for mascot-based games that are often found on Nintendo systems.

Do I think it would be better to wall it off to Nintendo consoles only? Absolutely not. That's silly. Do I think this will do better numbers on Wii U that the other consoles? I'd say it's likely.

People.........I still can't believe we are getting THIS from the Banjo guys

The thirst for a quality 3D platformer is real. I hope there are more to follow.

I heard that they want to do console specific cameos?, if that's the case i vote for Jak and Daxter (TPL versions) for the PS4, they're a perfect fit.

I figured Ratchet & Clank would work better for PS4 since they're coming out with a new game and movie, whereas who knows if we'll ever see anything with Jak & Daxter again.

Then Banjo and Kazooie for XBO and Donkey and Diddy Kong for Wii U.

No, more money adds more funding for polish and new features.

They can do it without writing a strech goal. The main diference is that if they don't managed to do that because they calculated it wrong (like ... 99% of kickstarters) they will not have a problem of "not delivering" what they promised

I'm glad they met their goal, and I hope they hit all the stretch goals as well. I just can't see myself giving money to something I won't see until at least a year and a half from now.

bish gets all the credit :)
It's entirely likely that Microsoft has seen this game in development for some time now, and still they didn't jump on Playsonic.

For shame.

For shame? Now everyone gets to play it.
How long have you been working on Yooka-Laylee and when will it release?

The game footage you see today is the result of less than three months’ work. The conceptual phase for Yooka-Laylee began much earlier in December 2014, but we didn’t actually start building the game until February.

Put Rare proper on a good game.

New stretch goals incentivize people to donate more money. :p I'm not saying the stretch-goals have to be huge or anything it can be alt costumes for the characters or something.

You don't remember Treasure Trove Cove, or Freezeezy Peak? Rare always pushed the system and delivered great visuals.

YL looks fantastic though.

No I for sure remember. They have always made beautiful games. I just mean, I can't believe its actually happening. That this game is real and we are going to get to play it.

Wii U: Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong
Xbox One: Banjo and Kazooie
PS4: Jak and Daxter

Bam.

Fucking send this over to Playtonic's forums, that is brilliant. If not Jak, maybe Ratchet or Sackboy and one his friends. Media Molecule getting a cameo makes sense being a fellow UK studio and all.

Sony take note, nostalgia for 90s platformers can turn into big money- time to bring bandicoot home

For as successful as this Kickstarter is turning out to be, this is still pretty small-time money when it comes to game development. And with Crash, you'd have to add licensing costs in addition to actually making the game.
