Playtonic unveils Yooka-Laylee (Banjo Kazooie successor) [Kickstarter LIVE - Funded]

Living in the shadow of Amaz
I don't see why not. Modern 3D platformers like Mario 3D Land and 3D World are significantly dumbed down and simplified compared to games like BK and DK64, and they seem to be well received.

Stop talking about games you haven't played. Thanks.

One guy posted earlier before the Kickstarter launched and even posted some art

I bet there's more who lurk

I saw his post, but art? Damn, if only my work computer didn't block 90% of pictures posted here. I'll have to check back later.

There is going to be like 3 times as many PS4s as Wii Us out in the wild by the time this thing comes out, if not more. I wouldn't take that bet. Again, I think making the assumption that the N64 audience that played these games as kids/teens all moved on to Wii U and followed Nintendo is a mistake.

Sonic All Stars racing sold more on Wii U than PS3 or Xbox 360 when there were like 70 times more of those consoles out in the wild so... Again, target audience. 98% of games perform better on X1/PS4, yeah but this fits the 2%. Anything with a mascot generally does better on Nintendo.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Wow--we're going to see all these stretch goals, aren't we? Maybe?

I soooooo want to back this up... But I was really hoping for a console physical version (not taking about the N64 carts... Which is really cool btw). Correct my if I'm wrong, but MN9 is getting a physical copy and those who backed are not getting it unless the shell out more money.

Everyone is talking about David Wise and Grant Kirkhope, but I can't wait to see what Steve Burke comes up with. The OST is going to be amazing.

Me too. Love the Kameo: Elements of Power-soundtrack.

I hope they try to make sure there's a cohesive feel to the music. The tracks on the Kickstarter-page are very different from each other, it's very very obvious which track is by which composer. Hopefully it's something they'll think about later when the game is farther along and you can sense the feel of the game is starting to become set in stone.

This kickstarter is going to make so much fucking money.

Also, does anyone know if the PC and console versions will arrive at the same time?

Look at the kickstarter. They arrive at the same time if they get the $1,000,000 stretch goal.

It doesn't have to be a larger market though. Just look at the success of the recent CRPG releases that came from Kickstarter. There is a market there it just isn't a multimillion sales one. If you budget smart you can still make all kinds of games and be successful with it. Problem is publisher these days don#t want to do anything that isn't super safe and sells at least 5 million copies.

Totally agree with this. Im tired of this mindset that the game has to be for the mass market. Gaming started niche and I still love niche games. The broader the market a game is made for the less I tend to be interested in it.

Indie developers have proven you can make games for a small subgroup of people and still make tons of money. You just need to be smart about it.

I don't think this necessarily targets the same audience as Sonic All Stars. Sonic games have been catering to kids for a while now, which is why they did so well on consoles like Wii. This KS didn't get funded in 40 minutes because kids are busting out their credit cards. It's because people who were 10-16 in the late 90s when the platformers on the N64 that this is making no bones about drawing influence from were released are now grown adults with disposable income. This is the audience of gamers that are probably now all splintered across various consoles. This is why it was really smart of them to not separate consoles by different stretch goals like a lot of KS's do. Just put it out on everything and make it clear it's coming to everything.

No but that's a borrible idea though, they can gain much more money working on multiple platforms than making a Nintendo exclusive game ever could.

Agreed. This is what Rare and the Stampers wanted back in the early 2000s. By being third party, this means we can get games on all platforms. Heck, they could partner with Nintendo or Microsoft now. Freedom is a good thing.

I heard that they want to do console specific cameos?, if that's the case i vote for Jak and Daxter (TPL versions) for the PS4, they're a perfect fit.

Backed! First ever kickstarter I backed! Go go go ex-rare dudes!

As someone who does stuff in Unity it's totally awesome to see you guys use it, it's a lovely engine, with lots of pre-programmed stuff, to let the creativty shine.

Upped my pledge by another 20 bucks, at this point, it definitely IS gonna happen unless unknown issues show up out of nowhere, but I'm so hyped for this.
