Always intrigues me how many people want their in-game characters to share their skin tone. I'm not white either but it's not really something I've thought about. Heck, even in this game I'm not sure if I'll have my character's skin colour reflect my own. There's a good chance I won't.

Clearly it's a very highly requested thing, though. I guess I'm just weird. Am very excited about the other customization options, but skin colour? Couldn't care less! :p

I gotta hold it down for my team. Let em know who you're messing with when the battle is won. Lol.

Plus its just a consideration thing... No black people play pokemon.... Really gamefreak? I'd love to see a game that gave no options for lighter skin tones in create a character mode. The salty outrage...

Generally having cosmetic preferences at all is weird. Still wouldn't hurt to have the option. /shrug

And pokemon is different from other games, I would fiercely oppose changing say Simon Belmonts look to be East African(my ethnicity) as it changes the story completely.

Pokemon is more of a trainer that's supposed to represent you and your adventure in the pokemon world. I mean look at the introduction to every pokemon game, they introduce you to the pokemon world, ask your name, gender(not that I haven't played as a female trainer before =P)...ect...

It doesn't make a whole lot of difference to most people, which is cool but some might just want to a tiny bit more customization options. It won't make the game any less awesome without the customization options(as evident from past awesome pokemon games) but it will make the game even more immersive for others which isn't exactly a negative IMHO.

But yes ultimately it doesn't make a huge difference, so long as the game play is awesome.

The player characters are our avatars moreso than in-game characters, so that's why most of us would like the ability to customize it.

What's wrong with Chingling/Chimecho? I mean, they're totally forgettable and bland, but I mean, they're not actively bad in the way Palkia or Vanilluxe are.

Also, when I said Sylveon's eyes were soulless, I didn't mean that in a complementary "like the eyes of some fey creature" way, but in a "like the eyes of a japanese actress who has to spend time playing moe schoolgirls in pornos to fuel her coke addiction" way.
You take that back! :-(

Also, Chimecho should evolve into an alarm clock.

Wind chimes are musical instruments, that dun make no sense, holmes.

EDIT: After sitting on the fence for a long time, I have come to like Mega Blaziken. It fixed most of my issues with Vanilla Blaziken (awkward head feathers, excess of poorly-placed yellow accents, weird hands and wrist-fire.) It will go on my second Kalos team.

I think Elgyem and Beheeyem should be retyped to ghost/psychic. It fits the whole creepy mind wipe idea, and alien abductions are basically another version of ghost stories.

It learns Uproar. Plus, alarm clocks (the old style ones with the bells) look funny.

Hahaha, I love it. One of its moves should be Wake-Up Slap
thanks.

Give it both Sing and Wake-Up Slap. It's the one-two-snooze-button punch.

Speaking of Fennekin, surely they wouldn't break the trend of having the final evos of fire starters having something in flames, right?

I bet it's Fennekin's ear puffs becoming fire.

Ehhh, I think the stick may become a staff or broom that, like the 2nd and 3rd gen starts, can turn fire on and off.

Either that or the ear hair can turn fire on and off.

I think that's mostly because sustaining 20 years of rage at Mr. Mime's existence is difficult to do. People still hate him, but any actual energy that could be put towards denouncing him has long since evaporated.

seriously tho fuck mr. mime

Having said that, fuck Vanilluxe too.

#equalopportunitieshater
Mr. Mime's really rad. Any true Pokemon fan knows that Mr. Mime is a cool dude who helps out Ash's mom. :(

Well, the player character is my avatar. She is basically me in the Pokémon World, so why shouldn't she have the same skin tone as me? The only reason I wouldn't change her skin tone to match mine is if by any reason I didn't like my own skin tone, but I have absolutely no problem with it (I have a light brown skin tone). Playing as a white-skinned character always felt a bit weird to me, so I am really glad I finally have the chance to change the PC's skin, even though apparently my exact skin tone isn't available to choose in the games.

Well, the player character is my avatar.

Yeah I get that, but I was never quite able to grasp the appeal of wanting your character to be "you" in games. What I was trying to say is I can't relate to it. :)

My thinking is more along the lines of, if I'm going to be staring at a character for dozens of hours in-game, I'd rather it be a character whom I find cool or attractive to look at. I don't want to look at myself! :lol

I always treat them as created persona/character that loosely represent me in that world. o for me limited customization or nothing at all is not matter much for me. But I could see the appeal of that for some people.

Oh shit, just started playing Black 2 for the first time today (my gf gifted it to me recently) and found my very first shiny pokemon! A gold-colored Growlithe :D it's like a miracle!

That feminine touch.

Conversely, I haven't seen a shiny since hooking up with my current girlfriend. Coincidence?

Speaking about Shiny, how many shinies have you encountered? Discounting Red Gyarados of course. I met only two, a Shiny Venonat and Shiny Durant.

I got a shiny Yamask once (Masuda Method) and that is about it for me :T

I don't care much about shines tbh. The alternate colors are nice, but the extended animation every time you send a shiny Pokémon annoys me so much.

I've been really lucky over the series. The last few years in particular were extremely lucky, I got 4 of them when I replayed a bunch of files that I wasn't happy with.

Caught:
Gen 2: Sneasel (traded from friend), Cleffa (Crystal Egg), Pichu (shiny parent breeding)
Gen 3: Registeel (didn't even know it was shiny when I caught it, low lighting), Tentacruel (traded from friend, caught on his game while helping), Golbat (the same thing, it has been an inside joke ever since)
Gen 4: Onix (right after catching Heatran, had two Ultras left), Pidgey, Graveler (knew SD)
Gen 5: Mienfoo, Watchog, Ducklett

Missed:
Gen 2: Tangela (apparently, while you can't run from shiny pokemon and they can't use moves to get away, they can still flee)
Gen 3: Stantler (Safari Zone, enough said)

Oddities:
Gen 4: Arceus. I used to hack a lot in Gen 4, I guess I just got bored of playing the game normally. To practice EV training, I would often just change the pokemon in the grass to ones that had 3 EVs in one stat. I figured it would ready me for the eventual day when I stopped using an AR. One time when training in HP, a shiny Arceus popped up. It's technically a valid shiny, it's just the pokemon and place are illegal. I never use it, I just keep it as a reminder that if I hadn't hacked, I would have something else that would be better. Like a shiny Bidoof or Starly.

That's a lot o_O
I have an odd luck with RNG in Pokemon though because I got Pokerus twice in different playthrough and Pokerus supposed to be a lot of rarer than shinies right?

Yeah, finding Pokerus is 3 times less likely than finding a shiny.

...I've also found Pokerus. I was making an Eevee evolve into Glaceon for my White Pokedex and one of the wild Pokemon around the rock infected it. Type 7.0, glad I noticed it because that type goes away every time the clock hits midnight.

Discounting Red Gyarados and other event shinies, four. That sounds like a lot until you realize I've been playing these games since they started coming out.

Hey, guys! I'm new here and I wanted to make my first post in the Pokémon community. I just recently got into Pokémon, right around the release of Black and White, but since then, I've played a game from every generation. So hyped for X and Y, but who here isn't, right? If it wasn't obvious, my favorite Pokémon are Growlithe and Arcanine. They're a great mix of cute and awesome.

On the topic of shinies, I currently own 23 different species, 18 if you don't include Gyarados and other events. My most recent one was a Masuda Method Growlithe. Needless to say, I was ecstatic when it hatched from the 82nd egg. Here's my entire list:

Blastoise: Traded a Kyurem away for it, but I can always replay White for another.
Arcanine: see above
Farfetch'd; Soul Silver
Gengar: Platinum
Hypno: Soul Silver
Ditto: Heart Gold
Unown n: Traded a Porygon2 in Heart Gold
Jumpluff: Soul Silver
Magcargo: Traded a Scyther in Heart Gold
Weavile: Randomly hatched as the 8th egg in Black 2. I needed a fast ice-type for the PWT
Tangrowth: Heart Gold
Magmortar: Black 2
Watchog: Black 2
Unfezant female: White, also my first shiny found
Cinccino: Black 2
Bouffalant: Black 2, found within 12 hours of Minccino
Toxicroak: Traded a Croagunk for it in White
Aggron: Traded something for it in Black 2

Hey, welcome to PokéGAF!

BW sure makes a great entry point. What do you think of every game in the series?

I wish I could have more self-caught shinies. :p

I've gotten a fair few shinies, but only ever two found in the wild :/ I did abuse the PokeRadar in DPP quite much, not sure if they count.

Gen III: Tentacool (my very first shiny ever. Caught while surfing), Wibbuffet (Safari Zone, oh god! I caught it, thankfully)

Gen IV: Ralts (PokeRadar), Mareep (PokeRadar), Tyrogue (PokeRadar), Snubull x2 (PokeRadar) and Yamask (Masuda Method)

Never got any in Gen V

I've encountered a few shinies over the years.

In Pokemon Gold, I found a shiny Golbat in the cave that separated Kanto and Johto, which later became my amazing pink Crobat. I loved that Pokemon so much, but it's long gone now. :( I also found a shiny Tentacool near the Seafoam Islands that I never bothered to evolve because at the time I hated them. They were far too common in Gen I&II.

In Pokemon Diamond, I got really invested in competitive battling. I hatched a shiny Scyther and Staryu while breeding for Pokemon with good IV's...but unfortunately I wasn't interested in shinies at the time, so I gave them both to a friend when he asked if he could have them. He later reset his game with them still on it. </3

In Pokemon HeartGold, I ran into a shiny Plusle in the National Park. That spurred me on to start trying the Masuda method, and from that I've hatched shinies of Charmander, Totodile, Ekans and Electrike, all of which are fully evolved now. Next target is Ninetales.

Gen IV: Ralts (PokeRadar), Mareep (PokeRadar), Tyrogue (PokeRadar), Snubull x2 (PokeRadar) and Yamask (Masuda Method)

Never got any in Gen V
Yamask is a Gen V Pokemon...
