Pokémon Community Thread 3: "Soon, All of Hoenn Will Be Under Its Withering Glare…"

It is a specific style they are going for. Bravely Default went for another one. This style MATCHES the artwork style of their lead artist. A semi-realistic train type thing such as that would not match said styles. It has nothing to do with the console. If the 3DS were as powerful as the Vita, the situation would be exactly as it is right now. There are shader effects, but they are just different to the ones you desire.

This has nothing to do with the artstyle though. I showed the gif for the lightning effects it had. I find X&Y mostly lacking on that department. It just seems like they are still using DS-like solutions but now with a little bit of added punch.

Yes, and lighting effects go with the art style... There's no point having realistic lighting when the whole game is designed to look like a cartoon

I still believe more diffused lightning can go with this artstyle. We could also argue they chose the wrong artstyle and discredit Gamefreak for that, but that's a discussion I would refrain from having. It seems like neither of us is getting his point across, so it's best to make this a wrap up. :)

This game's shading is similar to Sugimori's. I think they did a great job, really.

Also, whoever out there gave me a male Dratini with Jolly and 31 IVs in Attack, Sp.Def, and Speed over the GTS: I love you. I've been looking for a stud with those 31s, actually!

You are confusing the word shaders though. It has only a bit to do with an image's shadows. Shaders are a type of computer program that add additional effects to a 3D render. This includes specialised shadows, but nowadays they are also used for special lightning techniques and other post processing techniques.

I was using the word "shading" in the artistic sense. >_>

I'd like to point out that I was rooting for Fairy-type before Hiro and WPM. In fact I'm positive I'm one of the first to really bring it up, bar Mageleif's original posts before it was discovered he had inside info, which don't count. :p

So, like, I'm a prophet. Whoa.

Tell me you guys don't see it:

Yeah, I noticed that as well...Spewpa's wearing the usual "drifter" outfit, which fits since he wanders around spreading dust. Personally, I thought of Kenshiro. :)

Too bad Vivillion throws that away, it's really my least favorite so far. :( Scatterbug is cute, I like Spewpa a bit more because of that little visual joke, and then you hit boring moth #9? Especially disappointing after Gen V blew me away with Leavanny.

Time for the question of the night.

When I get my shiny Eevee I should evolve it into?

To be honest I am probably going to try and get all of them. lol

Current hunt is at 165 eggs.

It might be a bit faster to pokeradar one...

Unless of course you want wish

And if you have already captured a shiny in the game you could reverse calculate your SID and RNG abuse for one

That's how I got some of mine

That Pokemon XY Gameplay thread turned to shit.

It's the only good shiny eeveelution.

Yeah I think I am sticking out of it now

Edit: I don't know if I should pity or be jelly of someone with a shiny garchomp

On one hand he got a shiny of a pretty spectacular pokemon

On the other... It's shiny garchomp

I don't get what about Honedge turns people so...off.

I kind foresee Orotto getting similar complaints based around "a tree? really?" since it's a common RPG-trope, yet Pokemon's never done it straight so I'm kind of looking forward to it. Nothing wrong with going with some classic-style monsters.

Garchomp is always awesome to have because he's a shark with wings..a shark with wings, doesn't get any better than that.

This, plus the "pixel art" style they have going for it were what really jumped out at me since the first trailer. It's settled on a style very unique to them. I only wonder how seeing these sprite-like models will be like with the 3D turned on.

Wait, Garchomp can fly and float? >_>

Only in da animoo and dex entries.

Yeah I really love how the models look like sprites turned 3D, it is a clever way to work with the hardware limitations.

It really matches what GameFreak said prior to XY's announcement, that they stick to sprites as they can be more artistic with them. Here, they've managed to keep that artistic sense to the 3D model

Exactly, which is why I love it, and it gives them time to fiddle with and learn the tricks of 3D so that once they release a Pokemon game on the 3DS's successor, which will undoubtedly be able to do some nice looking cel-shading, they will be ready.

I wonder how many generations it'll take before we get an Eevee evolution to represent Each type :(

Especially considering we don't always get one each gen

90%+ of Shinies are shit and way worse looking than the original colourations. I would be completely in favour of a total redo of Shinies to actually produce different colour schemes that made you think "damn, glad I have it!".

The thing is, generally speaking, Pokémon are designed to look visually appealing. If you have an extremely rare alternate colouration which looks more appealing than the original, it begs the question: why not just make the regular form more appealing instead? That's the one people are going to see most of the time anyway.

Obviously there are exceptions but in most cases, the best shinies are those which would under normal circumstances look "as good", but seem better as a result of their rarity.
