Pokémon Community Thread 4: "Your Portal to What's Hip and Happening in Sinnoh!"

I agree on characterization, but people use story a lot.

I think people use the terms interchangeably a lot (I know I do) since Pokemon is usually more defined by the characters rather than the story. I was disappointed by the backpedal, but knowing that some members were sincere after playing B2/W2 alleviates some of that disappointment
although B2W2 has it's own problems

Pokemon is really just filled with a bunch of "one/two steps forward, one/two steps back" issues all over the place, across all aspects between gameplay, characters, story, interface...

For example, I like how the bulk of the trainer battles get the official Yusuke Ohmura art now, but I miss the animated sprites a bit, since everyone got them in B2W2, and now it's only the select few that have the animated 3D models (and don't get me started on why grunts got them in XY but the CHAMPION didn't; thankfully they at least fixed that for ORAS). Also, because they were still using the sprites, they had the fun stuff like the leaders stepping in with mid-fight dialogue, which made the battles feel a lot more alive... but with the 3D battle environments now they can show unique settings for important battles, which does its own part in making the battle feel like it's actually taking place in the game world...

Given enough time I could probably fill up a few more paragraphs using just stuff off the top of my head from XY/ORAS despite not playing any other games in the series for three years prior.

and as much as I like the characters in BW, I feel Ghetsis was a missed opportunity.

Now that I think about it, he's the only villain who went "lol no that wasn't my plan" shit too.

ORAS is garbage, but XY isn't much better. Both have no worthwhile postgame to speak of. Looker garbage quest and no Battle Frontier? FOH with that shit.

Everything else about them is like 10 times better than previous games in the series tho.

Who the fuck cares about postgame PvE when we have online now. Yeah, fighting another Confuse Ray/Double Team Umbreon, that sounds like my kinda content.

I think competitive battling serves a different crowd than some who want postgame PvE. For example, I don't want NPC versions of online battles in my postgame (I hated battle frontier/maison type content), I prefer extra places to explore that unlock after the E4, gym leader rematches, maybe a new quest with a cool story. Mostly, I just want to be able to use my pokemon in the main game thru to the point where they get their best moves, so like a full team of 70+. I want to go to something like Mt Silver and find an NPC in the end with a full team of lv 80s and feel awesome about beating him.

And I don't think online solves any of this for me. I do enjoy competitive battles, but to me it is an entirely different game from main story pokemon. I don't use the same guys I leveled for the story and got attached to competitively, that would be suicide. So I just wanna have a natural way of continuing on with those 'mon for my postgame.

I hope GF focuses a lot on the single player aspect in Sun/Moon.

they did an extraordinary job on the multiplayer/competitive aspect, but the single player has been left behind in the dust.
I think there has been quite a few nice moments/ideas in the 6th Gen, inverse battles for example, but they did nothing with it, and that's a bummer.

so that's why I hope they'll fix that in Gen 7

I'd like them to to try and branch out like how the anime handles gym's. What i mean is maybe have like 3 or 4 more extra side gyms that are maybe harder but also count toward your eight..am i making sense.

If you think about it, they could've easily done that for B/W's Post-Game if they wanted to with the myriad of extra towns they had.

So Pokenchi might just be them talking about the reveal trailer we got already back in the Direct---the preview for this week's episode shows clips from it.

My favorite thing to do now is to wonder trade all my breeding rejects and see what I get. Though I just hope people realize the random Poliwag I'm sending them is actually a 5 IV hidden ability, or that the Ferroseed has Spikes and Stealth Rocks egg moves.

Yeah, most of what I'm getting are random level 1s, but there's also the odd thing out like the person who traded a level 58 Haunter->Gengar that, after checking its stats, seems competition-built.

Guys, kind of a weird question but I figure this a good a place for it as any. Does anyone here have the Meowstic Male Pokeplush standard size from the Pokemon Center? If so, can you help me out a bit? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I got a Ho-Oh and a shiny 6iv Jirachi yesterday (and then the normal Jirachi from the event that kicked off yesterday). Odd day of wondertrading for sure.

Man my favorite part of this Mythical giveaway is that people will (hopefully) stop just putting everything up asking for Meloetta/Genesect and there will be less fully impossible trades on GTS. At least for me, since between me, my brother and my fiance I have access to 5 versions of Gen VI games to collect some mythicals for future trading.

Not a single clue

Isn't he close to getting his 8th badge?
You'd think he would get one of his old Pokémon like Gible to try and actually raise it to eventually evolve it like an actual Pokémon trainer but oh well.. he'll get another late Pokémon that'll prolly end up being a joke Pokémon that'll cost him the league.

Yup his 8th gym should be around may or june. Idk what they're doing with his last slot. His team already looks beastly i hope they dont mess it up with a late mon that wont evolving

Ash's battle with Valerie was awesome. Pretty dominant win.

Edit: And the battle between Grovyle and Frogadier was just as good.
Grovyle really should have won, though. Frogadier needs to be humbled. I guess it's fair given Grovyle had already taken damage as Treecko, but...I really hope it wins next time.

Either that or somehow you found a very dedicated, altruistic non-collector.

The Ho-Oh's OT tag is 20th Anniversary so I'm assuming there was an event Ho-Oh in some part of the world this year? The normal event Pokemon I receive through Mystery Gift are assigned "GF" so I'm not sure of the origin of the Ho-Oh as I only got back in to Pokemon a few weeks ago.

The shiny 6iv Jirachi though has its OT as someone called Otakuheaven72 which led me to this: https://www.twitch.tv/otakuhaven72/profile *shrugs*

I feel dirty possessing legendaries I didn't obtain myself in-game or through Mystery Gift's events that I participate in so I'll probably move these two on at some point.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I mean, I'm doing all this wonder trading now for stuff, got a Protean Froakie through it, but even if I breed and transfer mons over to the new games, it always just feels.. off, or something, to use anything besides what I catch and get myself within the one game, despite the fact that the trading is meant to be an integral part of the franchise.

And in B/W2 instead of replacing gym leaders

Yeah, I understand have about 12 gyms in the game, but only require 8 to beat the game. Sounds good

Has there been any extra gyms since Gen 1? I remember the fighting gym where you could get Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan, but don't remember anything else like this in Silver, Emerald, or Black and Black 2.

Nope never. It's baffling really, seems like such an easy and cool thing to do. Also makes it so they can have more unconventional gyms

Or why not expand the number of main storyline gyms to 10? Ever since Gen 1, it's been 8 gyms and the E4 for a total of 12 type specialists per game (plus a couple of the champions), but that was originally out of only 15 types and 17 shortly thereafter. With 18 types now they could afford to make the player confront more types in the main story path and still have room for some kind of optional type challenges like the Fighting Dojo in Kanto.

How else could you theme a gym, though? Unless they start drawing from real-life pro strats like with Wally's final form...

Well what I mean by different themes is like have additional rules. Like I remember Roxie let ash go 3v6, something like that but more with a twist to it so it could add more challenge and more incentives to scout out other gyms

Oh, so stuff like the Inver battles where the actual game mechanics get changed up?

Yea like have a gym be a rotation battle or maybe the gym leader can switch Pokemon but u can't stuff like that as well. Have the regular 8 but have some others that people can challenge if they want to it would greatly add more to the game
