Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

I'm level 10 and live in a suburb so been encountering the usual rattata, weedles, pidgeys, eevees, and caterpies. Sometimes though grimer, muk, jigglypuff, scyther, and starter/their evos like to appear to make me go outside for a couple hours to look for them.

a friend shared this little tidbit with me

No way. This works? I thought it only pinged when the number of footsteps changed.

30 minutes incensed walk in the suburbs, mostly rats and birds. Couple Evees.

Went driving through the city the other day and it's surprising barren pokestop wise and yea more birds and rats.

I would really like to know the algorithm to determine poke-placement.

Atleast Magicarps pop up a lot at the lake near here.

Looking it up, it seems like Jolteon can only get Thundershock as a fast attack. Not even Spark which only deals two more points. Damn. Electric types got robbed there. Maybe they're faster to compensate? Not sure how speed works in the game though if it's even a thing.

It might be faster with attacking. Discharge does charge faster/cost less to use than whatever my Flareon has. But it's still noticeable the lack of umph behind its fast attack.

It doesn't work. It pulses green to indicate the list has been updated. That has to be one of the most annoying urban rumours going at the moment.

Did you know you can pick up Pokeballs from the ground if you're tapping quick enough?

I definitely don't believe that.

why do people hate on instinct so much

last I checked Zapdos would destroy your flying red and blue asses! Thunder destroys flying last I checked! Your masters are WaF against my master

Articuno's ice is super effective also against your flying type. Check and Mate.

I'm having an issue with the battery saver mode. When I use it for longer than a minute it seems, i can't press anything once the screen undims. It's not frozen, as my dude still movies around and all that. But I can't click anything. Have to press home and close the game and relaunch. Anyone else?

Android, Nexus 6p.

This has been busted. It blinks when the nearby pokemon add or subtract, or change in footstep distance.

Shame that Articuno is so slow and can be OHKO'd by the faster Zapdos without getting a shot in, really.

I went into my local city centre today and it is a completely different experience than walking around in rural areas. I was enjoying it already, but after today I can totally see how this is so popular, it is so rewarding wandering around when the pokestops and gyms are more densely populated.

I actually am kind of glad the Pokemon tracking system is not that accurate and lacks detail.

Finding and catching one should be a challenge. Sure you'll come home empty handed a few times but that's the life of a Pokemon master.

I really wish the damn distance actually worked.

Saw Scyther. Went walking around, no matter what direction i moved in (and i went quite far) still stayed at 3. then a random pokemon will just pop into my radar despite being ranked as 3 away.

I will never catch my favorite pokemon...

Is there anyway legit way of knowing the general direction of the pokemon you're looking for? >.>

Nope. I did some testing and one footstep is within 75m, two is 150m, and three is 225m, but lots of three are "phantoms" that the game doesn't update properly, so if you see a three-step you want to find, restart the app first to make sure it is real.

A good helper for Android is the app EnRadius, which can draw circles of a set radius around your current location. Helps you figure out roughly where you're talking. Additionally, downloading Ingress is useful, because Go is based off it, and Pokemon spawn where dense clusters of XM are in Ingress, so you can see rough spawn spots.

Then use battery saver mode and put it in your pocket while you go walk. Mine stays active and tracking for as long as I want.

It seems like they did their job correctly though, seeing as you are actively going out for a walk just to hatch the eggs. It's called Pokemon Go for a reason.

I see what your problem is in terms of battery drain but I just don't agree with the idea of the distance counter going up doing whatever else. It takes all the effort out of hatching eggs and everyone would have daily batches of eggs cracking while doing jack shit with the actual Pokemon-catching component of the app.

With the screen off? Being able to put it in my pocket and just enjoy a walk is what I want to do as well, but I get no tracking once the screen goes off. But an even bigger gripe, I can't listen to my audiobook while the app is open, it pauses it no matter what...even if the sound in the app is turned off.

My route to work and back home are getting ridiculously long thanks to this game. My S.O. was worried cause Im usually home 30 minutes after my shift ends and now its taking me an hour and half lol. Had to go home when my battery died and ran out of pokeballs.

And yeah the Jolteon vs. Pidgeotto was a bug. I tackled another Gym and this time Jolteon was the one scoring super effective hits. Strange how it was the other way earlier, felt dumb getting rekt by a weaker Pidgeotto.

LEVEL

Evolve those birds and rats with all that candy

Fast XP and then more pokemon get unlocked

Not 100% sure, but your save should be account wise, so when the app releases on Google Play and you get it from there, it should take your Google account save.

Kk I cracked and got it. Thank you! When it releases I'll just delete whatever I downloaded it and re-download I suppose

Was it moving up the list towards the top? That can also be used to tell how close you're getting.

I think I'm done with this for now.

Excellent concept but until they get the servers sorted (including worldwide release) theres just too much frustration whilst playing.

Full bars of 4G data connection? Solid Wi-Fi?
Tough shit. Constant swirling Pokéball in the corner.

It effects every single bit of the game and there is clearly something weirdly wrong when a CP10 Razz Berried Pidgey is escaping a perfectly timed and aimed Great Ball on the first wobble.

Also this is infuriating:
YOU ARE TOO FAR AWAY FROM THIS GYM

It's common unfortunately for a Pokemon to "glitch" and stay stuck in the Nearby menu despite even going miles away. If you think this happens, restart the app. If it's still there, good news! If not, well, it won't be bothering you any more.

Ah, thanks guys. Guess it really is like the old 90s Pokemon craze with misinformation everywhere.

Server issues killing me when it comes to catching and gym stuff too. Seems like whenever I fight a gym, the defender always gets the first hit in then it'll either be smooth or that dreaded loading pokeball will appear and once it clears I'm down to just a sliver of health.

That does suck. But are you sure you can't continue playing it from within the app?

I'm listening to podcasts while I hunt for Pokemon every time.

Lovely. And yet i still keep playing. i guess id be pissed if i actually paid money for this

To add to this, I know that my Spotify app will always pause on start up of the app (Niantic logo), but then I'm able to just hit play and it still works. Might just be that.

So Disneyland seems to be an amazing gold mine for pokemon go.

The castle is a gym, and autopia and Jungle Cruise seem to be the perfect rides becuase they are slow and cluttered with pokemons and pokestops. Also the artifcial river and lakes count as real, so theres a bunch of water types mixed with normals. Really hopping people start encountering ghost types near haunted mansion lol

If Universal, TPC and Nintendo dont take advantage of this (with special events, and spots arounf the whole parks) when they make the Nintendo land in Universal's Japan and Orlando, they are wasting their time.

What is pokestop?
Pokemon GO don't hurt me
Don't hurt me
No more

Pokemon GO don't hurt me, don't hurt me
No more
What is pokestop?
Yeah

I don't know why you're not fair
I give you my battery, but you don't care
So what is right and what is wrong?
Gimme a sign

Good Job!

Did they change the maps that show where you caught the Pokemon to be way more zoomed out? I liked it before because now it looks like I caught all my Pokemon in the same spot.

huh... thanks for the advice. I think I'll at least try the enradius app ^^
