Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

I really hope they fix things for people in small towns. Seems like people in big cities are also getting better Pokemon

Basically. I came back down from Durham to Wales having installed Go in Durham, and on the train trip, the bigger the city, the cooler the stuff. I was lv.4 passing through Birmingham and got a Magmar. In the small town near me in Wales, it's Rattata, Bulbasaur and Eevee on constant loop; with the occasional Drowzee thrown in for fun.

Caught a Hitmonchan. That's the rarest i had so far (level 5).

better than anything ive got and im level 7. nice find.

I wish I knew how to track down specific pokemon better.

Ill have a 1 footstep pokemon, then ill start walking and itls be 2 footsteps and eventually disappear

bunch of people were clearly playing the game near a lure all keeping to themselves

it was hilarious when snorlax popped up and you could see everyones individual reaction

my app froze while the ball was rocking...rebooted and he was in my collection!!

Game freezes every single time I toss a Pokeball. AR on or off, it doesn't matter. I was pretty tolerant to the growing pains, but now that I experience them every time in the limited number of times I actually get a Pokemon in my area, I really hope they iron out these issues quickly.

Question for a first time gym battler: I go to my team's gym to train and lose each battle since they have much higher cp Pokemon, but I don't receive any xp and the gym gains no prestige. Is this normal? For reference, I'll bring in a 76cp Pokemon to screw around and fight their 310cp Pokemon to give the gym prestige.

Reposting for new page. Confused on how training is supposed to work.

I have a park my my house that has 9 pokestop and 2 gyms. Takes 5 -7 minutes to hit every pokestop so going back and forth is loads of exp. Last couple of nights we put 3 lures down covering the entire park and use a shiny egg.

Went from 5-10 in a few hours that way.

9 in a single park? There is only 1 in the park here and ZERO in the massive shopping center neary house. Seems the game avoids chain stores, which is every single store where I live. Shame. I ran out of pokeballs and not Going to buy more and can't sit in the one spot all day as it closes at dark.

Time for me to go to Wales to catch those Eevees then.

No. There's a set amount of Pokemon in a given radius around each Pokestation, from what I can work out, and that amount doesn't vary between urban and rural areas. So if you're in an area that has 5 closely overlapping Pokestations, it will have 5 times the Pokemon as in an area that has a single Pokestation. Get too far away from a Pokestation (more than 500m or so) and you won't see anything at all.

Aww man, is that how this works? Finally was able to register and I didn't see anything whatsoever on the map where I live. Wasn't sure if pokemon would pop up as I walked around but that's pretty lame if they only spawn around manually determined locations.

I'm not sure how the locations are determined. If I take a decent walk, I reach a little old church that really isn't a major tourist site at all (I mean, I've lived here 8 years now and never actually seen a tourist there), and isn't really locally important either, but is somehow a Pokestation. But yeah, there's way fewer of them outside of cities, where everything and its mother seems to be a Pokestation. There were some public toilets in my local town which were a station.

Yup I'm at my parent's place which is in a small Dutch town. Only the pokemon you mentioned.

How is it actually manually determined in the first place? I discovered some very 'in-the-know" Poke Spots today. It must be a function left to end-users in Ingress?

I live on my mil station and there is literally no pokemon here. I have to drive about 15-20 minutes to just to find any. There is like 4 pokestops and 3 gyms on base too. It really sucks. I just want to walk around on the trail and such but all I get is the blank nearby bar.

Hoping its a server issue or something cause I reset my phone a bunch thinking it good be on my end.

If we could trade, Pau, you and Kark could have all the Eevees. I am literally sick of the blighters.
I don't know if I have anything interesting to offer but it's the thought that counts. :P Near this dorm it's mostly Drowzees, Zubats, Pidgeys, Weedles, and Ghastlys.

I'm not in NYC at the moment so I wonder if there are more Eevees there. :O Kark has to wait for his data to reset so he hasn't really seen what's outside of our apartment.

Yep. Ingress crowd sources it's locations from players. This game used those locations.

Niantic at one point seemed to allow for submissions for portals (which converted to Stops/Gyms in GO), though that has since ended. https://support.ingress.com/hc/en-us/articles/207343987-Candidate-Portal-criteria

Wish I could submit for a Stop. Would be nice to not keep running out of Poke Balls.

Servers are down for me right now but I'm hoping they'll be up by the time I go out to play tonight. It's raining now anyways so no biggie.

Gotta hit up all the Pokestops and stock up on poke balls, I ran out this morning. Caught an Ivysaur, Staryu, and enough Eevee's to evolve mine and get a Jolteon!

Battles need a bit more depth need local battles, if I wasnt a collectofreak I would have been done after getting a few of my favs.

That's a server issue. If there's PokeStations, there's Pokemon, from my experience.

pokestops and gyms are just locations that have been carried over by ingress. You can pull up a map if you have an ingress account or sign up for one. I've planned trips to a few places and for the most part the spots all check out. Not sure what dictates a gym and a stop yet though.

Welp, cool for everyone living in the metropoles I guess ;_;

anybody?
anyone else have an issue with the power save mode not working?
is it tied to gyro as well or is it just me?

I have a Blu life one X 2016 and when I turn it upside down, stays on. (yes, I made sure it was checked)

at this rate im looking into buying a battery pack off of amazon and grabbing a plus when it comes out....

also, after some reading, if I cant get the battery save to work, the pokeplus is useless to me eh? :(

Yes, in Ingress you can submit a new location for approval. I'm about 99% they are just using Ingress data to fuel Go

I'd never even heard of Ingress until this. I can't imagine it had enough players where I live to populate as much as my local town has, could it? Unless there was one guy determinedly logging the whole area.

So, if people played that game (I have no clue what it is or how it works) and made some new locations it should carry over?
Right now they're not accepting new locations but I wouldn't be surprised if they creates new tool or option to add spots later on. Also maybe improve the system so that Pokemon spawn everywhere without having stops around.

You'd be surprised, Ingress did have quite the buzz when it first kicked off. That and there are some absolutely mundane objects that are stops and gyms around me. There's a PokeStop near me that's a dudes letterbox lol.

Okay, I'm pretty confident the data is not (solely) from Ingress. I just booted up Ingress to check and there's a portal in the same spot as my PokeStation, sure, but the Ingress portal is unowned/unclaimed, which seems implausible if it was consciously submitted by a user as presumably they'd then go claim it. Niantic must be drawing data from somewhere else too.

I'm on vacation atm and the local park was full of people on their phones with cords going into their pockets and bags where I assume external batteries were. Everyone I walked past with a cord was playing Go. Insane, because I was one of them lol.

you need to actually defeat a pokemon in order get the prestige and exp. if you win with a lower leveled cp pokemon you'll net more prestige.

Got it. Thought losing would at least give the gym more prestige. Also, is the only way to store a Pokemon at a gym is to actually win a battle and raise the prestige so it allows for another Pokemon?

Went around London today and felt like I hit the jackpot with landmarks :P

I also went to fight the gym at Harrods but as I got there the gym somehow went from claimed to unclaimed so I snuck in and got it but I'm 99% sure it will have been taken over now :P

I wish I could listen to music/podcast while walking around Pokemon. I disabled all music and sound fromthe app, but it still won't let me. Sigh.

I wonder if the servers going caput have anything to do with the mass event happening in Sydney right now. Good luck with that when the servers are all down.

When is it available in Canada or how have Canadians gained access to it? thanks

No one knows the date. They've delayed releasing it in other countries due to server issues.

Android users downloaded the APK and iPhone users have created an American or Australian account to download it.
