Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

What do you mean? I'm not grasping what you're saying. They spawn based on the map. Meaning you have to move to certain spots on the map to find them. If I sit in my backyard all day I'll get 3. If I walk around all day I'll get hundreds.

Am I stupid? Can someone else chime in?
If your house is in a more populated area where more Pokemon spawn yiu can literally sit in one spot and just catch more pokemon than someone who lives in yhe woods that has no pokemon in its location
of course you'll get more if you move around, but the person in an urban area will get more sitting still than the person in a rural area.
On top of that it's easier for urban based players to move around the map than a rural based player. It's absurdly unbalanced.

They spawn based on the map. You don't have to move.

No really, this sentence hurts my brain.

How, without hacking, do you move on the map, without moving?

AHH nevermind I understand what you're saying. You're not saying you can move on the map without moving irl. You're saying if there's a ton of people around they'll spawn next to you. Which sucks yeah.

Thanks.

I'd love if it was the other way around.

Encourage people to get out of cities and into the wilderness etc. But I guess there'd be a problem with mobile coverage at some point

It's not so much walking, but being near pokestops. I've gone on 5km walks and got nothing cause no spots were near by. Sitting near a poke stop? Popping up all the time. It seems stupid to say but walking, actual moving is really the smallest part of the game. It's based on where you are and where you go, the fact of going doesn't help at all. Far better off camping at a lure spot than walking IMHO. My friends are like 7 levels ahead of me, despite us all playing the game roughly the same amount cause they went to spots with pokestops. This is a wildly different game under those circumstances

It looks like Google map. You can see some distance around your character, but you can't search anywhere. You can check out Ingress to see what it's like since that's what it's based off of.

My town is historic and has a stupid amount of pokestops. There's about 10 clustered around main street. One drive by gets me enough pokeballs and eggs for a while. One of the landmarks is "local watering hole".

Ah thanks. I checked out the ingress map for my area (just downloaded the app and checked the intel map thing on my desktop) and it seems there are a good few in town and even two very close by which I didn't expect to be anything.

Yap, I just walked ~4 km and got like 5 pokemon because it was rather rural.
If I'd walk into the city on the other hand... I would've been swarmed with mass Pokemon - even if it's bullshit small ones :D

Pokemon spawn just outside of my range and it ticks me off, tbh. I wish I could increase my circle's range.

Well I haven't been to a city, I'm just going off of my experience which has been pretty good when I walk. It just seemed to be fairly equal whether I was at the park with everyone else, or walking to the store in my rural neighborhood. That's why I couldn't grasp it.

I work on a college campus. My building is a PokeStop

Super jealous. I work at UT Austin but for some reason there are no PokeStops on campus nor any downtown either. I've heard that they just haven't ported the stuff over from Ingress yet.. hope that's true because it seems crazy otherwise.

I've never gotten a pokemon from my house. They're always 3 steps away. But when I went to my co-working space today I got 3-4 pokemen by just sitting still. The cafe I'm at right now doesn't seem to get pokemon though.

Is there any advantage to having more than one of any Pokemon aside from Evees? I keep seeing that people bought space for more pokemon but there's less than 250 in the game, right?

Old trailer showed battle raid at the end ? O_o
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKUwVYUKii4

Actually yeah, there's a "hologram" of the event showing that a player had joined and at the top it says "Raid".

I also find it interesting that they use little pixel character icons for players as well as Pokemon having standard levels (Mewtwo is 70, at the end showing the capture of Pikachu, it's on Lv 5 and Charizard is Lv 36)

While they were likely all just placeholders, I think it'd be fascinating to see how a raid battle would work. In my head, I figured the legendary (in this case Mewtwo) would have a crazy high amount of CP/Health, likely in the multiple thousands or even a million...especially if they're giving them 10 minutes for it.

After battle, everyone gets Mewtwo or you have to do a standard catch for it where it's "weakened" so you can actually capture it. Alternatively, everyone just gets a Mewtwo with say...1000 CP except for the one who dealt the final blow gets a stronger one.

Having raids would be cool, but I'd like to think they'll be special. Like a traveling event around the country, or in a specific place on a special date (Like Times Square on the anniversary, etc)

Birbs I think would also be "bosses" but slightly easier where you could take them on yourself but Mewtwo you wouldn't.

There's 151 Pokemon, 146 technically available now. You'll basically be able to hold up to 100 extra Pokemon if you have one of each. However, if people capture a shit ton of mons looking for a specific move or CP, they might need more room.

I don't think unbalanced is the right word because there currently is no way for a rural player to interact or compete with an urban player. Unfair would be a better word .

You feed them to your other Pokemon of the same species to power them up.

Of course, once you transfer a pokémon so you can power up others, you don't need a space for it any more.

I do think the pokémon storage space upgrade is the most pointless one.

I mean, urban players can go take gyms in suburban areas and they won't be able to do anything about it. Easy way to secure 10 gyms for multiple days to get dem login bonuses.

not that I've done that~

It's unbalanced cause even people in cities like LA aren't all created equal.

Some people live like next door to a Stop so they can farm from their house all day.

While the guy that lives a mile down the road isn't. So the dude farming has high level CP characters and captures a gym.

Then he gets gold which he banks for lures at his Stop.

So he snowballs.

Yup. This is easy to see right from the jump as well and actually something that would have been easy to foresee. Ingress is the same way. Hell Street Pass has the same negative downside which is why they added the hubs in various McDonalds and AT&T stores. If you aren't in a urban area, the more urban the better, you're out of luck in enjoying this to its fullest and you'll have to wait until you travel around to work, school, or when you go shopping. Even then depending on where you go it's still a dice roll.

Everyone I know is already resorting to GPS spoofing on Android emulators to get shit tons of items and pokemon. I hope they can detect and ban these people or the idea of this game is going to get flushed down the toilet real bad. This is why we can't have nice things.

help, the game keeps crashing after everything has loaded, despite not doing so before.

what can I do?

Android here.

I had that twice today. In both cases the only thing I could do without it crashing was engage a wild pokémon, at which point it stopped crashing.

Hopefully there's a more reliable solution though.

I have like 5 Flareons and a Jolteon. I'd rather have anything else on that list.

All I want is a damn Jolteon but I haven't seen nearly enough Eevees. How does Eevee evolution work, anyway? Do you just choose which of the three you want when you give it the candy?

Party poopers

Hope they get em banned quickly :(
