Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

So whats the highest cp pokemon have gotten early on ? I'm still level 4, my height cp pokemon was 42 but now on my my way home from the gym I caught a 149cp Pontya and an 80cp Pickachu. Is that good ? should i focus on strengthening these 2 for my first gym once I reach level 5 ?

That's pretty good for lower level! Honestly, I'd say focus on catching Pokemon (pretty much everyone you see) when you're a lower level. As you level up, you catch more and more Pokemon that are higher CP than you've ever seen before. Once you feel like you have a significantly strong Pokemon, train it (or them) and take on some gyms. Since people have been playing longer, gyms might be a little intimidating at even level 5.

But there's no wrong way to play the game! You can focus on training those once you hit level 5 if you want. It's all about having fun.

wonder how the success of this is going to affect sun/moon

Hopefully a push in sales, but it's hard to say since you need a 3DS to play Sun/Moon and not a smartphone that everyone already has.

No, I'd hold out and wait for stronger ones or when you stop leveling up like mad to use Evolutions / Leveling to Level up your Trainer.

I was level 7 last night and caught a 600 CP Rhydon.

Just bought 1200 poke coins with app-store credit i still had left but the game is saying I still have 0 pokecoins? Does it just take a bit to register/display?
App Store has registered the transaction...

How long do you guys think this game will last being this huge?

Just catch everything you see and get your trainer level up.

Also, when do you unlock Ultra Balls?

Ok thanks guys. I thought since most of my pokemon were in 20-30cp range that a 149cp Pontya was amazing :p. I'll see what I can get in the next day or 2 before leveling up anything.

Ok I've been looking through the thread the past 15 minutes but can't find it..

The cartoon with the PhD guy saying
"I spent the whole weekend playing pokemon Go and didnt write a single word"
etc.
and at the end he says "It was amazing"

Anyone got it?
Thanks!

Just beat my first gym! I popped a fairly low-level Electabuzz in there so I'm sure I won't be holding it long, but still was pretty cool. Dodging is surprisingly helpful, I think.

Question -- what are the perks to holding gyms? Do I get daily experience or some other reward? I'm sure that has been answered in here, but any help would be cool.

Holding a gym lets you claim 10 pokecoin per gym. You can claim it in the shop every 20 hours I believe.

you get 10 pokecoins per gym you are a part of when you collect. you can collect your gym pokecoins every 21 hours.

For each pokemon in a gym you can get 500 stardust and 10 Pikachucoins every 21 hours via the button on the upper right in the "shop" section

This one?

It's an old-school Dorkly comic that's been updated with Pokemon Go.

There is a daily reward which you can claim from the shop (top right corner). It's actually 21 hours, but close enough. You get 500 Stardust + 10 Coins for each gym you hold up to a certain limit. Once you redeem it, though, you can't do so for 21 hours, even if you take another gym, so it's a game of deciding if you can capture lots of gyms in a reasonable amount of time to claim a big reward or if you're just content with capturing one and immediately redeeming it.

On the Shop page, you can click the button in the top right to get a Daily Bonus including Pokecoins! 10 per gym you have a mon in.

However, be aware that you can only click this button once per 21 hours. So, if you think you might get a pokemon into any more Gyms within the next little while, hold off on tapping it until you have the most you think you'll be able to grab today.

I am sure the holocaust museum can handle filling out that form.
and I think the answer is not that bad, it makes sense to make it public that you can fill out a form to delist your property. there will be tons of cases like that if the game keeps blowing up, so it makes more sense to get that fact our so in the future people can filll out that form instead of complaining to a newspaper in the hope that Niantic reads that newspaper and delists them.

Yeah, it doesn't seem like much a lift on the Holocaust Museum's part. Is the author of the article under the impression that the museum doesn't have an intern who could easily do it?

I bought some coins so I could drop some lures at my local park. And it took a good 5 or 10 minutes for the coins to actually show up.

I hard reset the game too, so that might have help.

Thanks for all the responses, folks! The whole risk/reward is kind of neat (although I'm nowhere near strong enough to have a chance at getting a bunch of pokemon in gyms right now).

I sort of agree. Sometimes I was thinking it was pretty fun hunting down an elusive 'mon, other times I see grown ass men everywhere staring at their phones looking for something that isn't really there and wondering what I am doing playing this game. In any case, although the base game concept is very clever, it is just a massive grind- which seems to be the most popular game design philosophy these days, unfortunately.

I dont mind the grind. I feel like the feeling that im earning stuff when i get it. Imagine if you got everything in life at birth (degrees, children, house). The grind is part of the experience. Yeah im staring at my phone, but im also talking to people and exploring neighborhoods I would have never seen if it weren't for pokemon go.

Just seek out some gyms from your team and as soon as you got 3 pokemon in, just claim it :) something like that

Article in french but i translate a bit.

A driver and codriver were looking for Pikachu IN A CAR ,talk about laziness lol, and they ran into a police car. Police were following them because they did an infraction ( maybe pass a red light or stop ), they stop somewhere, went backways and ran into the police car!!!

Now that is start getting really crazy lol.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I almost hit a parked car in my neighborhood yesterday. Threw my phone in the backseat after that and cussed myself out. Be safe folks.

Yeah I was surprised at how it worked at first because I thought it was a bonus for actually holding gyms for a day, but after playing a bit more it's really geared in favor of attackers and for gyms to flip frequently. If you form a group and can roll around with them to take and fortify a few gyms in a row, and then "cash out" your bonus, it's hella fun.

I just realized that yesterday I caught a Porygon before going to sleep while in bed was a lot of luck... seems to be rare, am I right? I'm the only of my friend to have it. :O

this game lol

went shopping to the store no 5 minutes away, with 2 arenas on the way

met (and i swear i'm not making this up) 4 teen/older players and 1 kid playing GO, everyone smiled and said hi, nobody was weird about it, i said hi to everyone and good luck, one of'em just grinned ear to ear while seeing me and i just went "alright, says it all", and he burt out laughing.

So the reviews have been rolling out (kind of funny major gaming sites jumping on doing reviews for it now that it's a phenomenon). Some really bizarre range of scores and text that go along with them.

Did anyone do a review thread?

Some take it for what it's worth and some slam it as a game but still love it:

Once I’m actually playing, I have a ball with this, because it is, in a very real sense, a cultural phenomenon. Never has a game managed to get people to flock over to specific areas of town like birds to seed. People point to it being too simple as a game, but really the game bit is barely relevant. What is relevant is that this game has people out and about, socialising and exploring. There’s a group experience event going on with Pokemon Go, and it’s addictive to simply be part of the collective.

Destructoid 3.5/10:
So we've got a game that I don't enjoy from any angle (which sucks), but it's also dominating the cultural conversation right now (which is great). I'm torn on this one, honestly! See, I don't recommend Pokémon Go the video game. But I can't get enough of Pokémon Go the cultural artifact. It's a Videodrome-esque obsession, and I'm very disappointed in how excited I am to play my part. Long live the new flesh.

Kind of interesting how they've been treating this.

Those are awesome, I like the wider palette and the distressed look is pretty cool. I really like the minimalism of the one I ordered though. No words, no year, just the logo in solid color. If ya get it ya get it.

Yeah I'm between the two. I like the distressed but I'm not crazy about the year. The Qwertee one looks a tag more comfortable though - I have so many cheap Gildan tshirts.

Finally got a few 1100+ CP pokemon, so I figured I'd try to take a gym last night.

I had literally no idea you had to beat them more than once. Talk about a shitter.

I beat an entire series of 3 fights, no problems, but only took like 300 reputation away from the gym. If I wanted to actually take that gym, (roughly 8000 points), would I have to sit there and whittle away at the number 300 points at a time?

Kind of interesting how they've been treating this.

If I was to review it, I'd give it an average rating.

The game itself is middling at best, but what you can do outside the game is incredible, and the social stuff is incredible, but it won't blind me to the flaws with the game like it does some.

I keep getting accosted on Twitter because I'm not treating it like the second coming and have always questioned it being a good game.

I do enjoy playing it, but it is flawed. It has so much room to improve. Niantic, TPC and Nintendo could have an absolute classic on their hands if they play their cards right and have further support/features added soon before the mass public drops the game. It's just a shame it doesn't realise its potential just yet.

I'm sure this has been asked million times before, so don't bash me please.

I never grew up with the Pokémon, but I want in on this madness,

Any easy way to play this in Canada on an iPhone?

I tried to change my AppStore to US but wouldn't let me unless I had a legit US based Credit card attached to my account.

Any help would be appreciated.
